  1. Yes and no. The top 4 outpace the league. But the bottom 5 are abysmal. A team with playoff intentions and a reasonable core of talent should not be there below Minnesota, KC, Cincinnati, St Louis and Colorado. Minnesota and KC are in same boat trying to be competitive in a small market, and St Louis and Colorado are rebuilding in medium sized markets, and Cincinnati is in between. If Milwaukee ownership and management were serious they could be in that $125-140 range - along with the scouting, development abilities that would be a competitive team. But not spending for another legitimate arm and/or bat and staying that low in payroll is unfair to us fans. So the league is not fair, but that doesn’t mean ownership is not part of that problem. And the last year or so of personnel decisions have been less than stellar (after the December’23/Janury’24 coup of Contreras trade, Chourio deal and IFA class).
  2. Yes and no. Hader trade (and subsequent acquisition of Contreras) was very good. But since we have been slumping. And usually better at manipulating roster spots but losing Shane Smith, and having Thomas (and previously Jay) waste these spots is poor management. Plus Hall and Cortes had red flags and management clearly looking like they whiffed in those assessments.
  3. Last season we traded Burnes for Joey Ortiz, and a pitcher who is either injured or highly ineffective. And this offseason we lost Willy Adames for nothing (well a draft pick so I’m excited). Then traded D. Williams for a guy at AAA and a pitcher who is heading toward the IL. And we “traded” Shane Smith’s roster spot for Connor Thomas. Boy that compensatory draft pick (from Adames) better be a future hall of famer.
  4. Cannot or won’t. In 2019 and 2022 they did have payroll in the 17-19th range in the league, but last few seasons more like 20-24th. i like the moves they make, but cannot keep losing players and stay competitive. This season may be that wake up call (may be for fans or just me). Hopefully management can and will spend into the 15th-18th range in payroll for a season or two like 2018-2019.

  6. So compiling the last 8 minor league lineups, looking like a consensus is starting for the positional line-ups. Biloxi: Lara, cf - Quero, dh - Pratt, ss - Adams, 1b - Wilken, 3b - Miller/R.Rodriguez, c - Brown, if/of - Murray/Warren, if/of - Restituyo, of. No O'Rae for a little while, so not sure if he is hurt. But would likely slot in with Brown, Murray, Warren as if/of. Wisconsin: Yophery, of - Burke, 1b/dh - Areinamo, ss - Baez, 3b- Guilarte, 2b - E.Garcia, of - Wood/D.Garcia, c Last 2 positions/bench are: Y.Garcia, of - Vargas, if/of - Hall, dh/1b - Castillo, of, H.Perez, of/dh Carolina: Payne, cf - Adamczewski, 2b - Made, 3b - Dinges, c/dh - Bitonti, 1b/dh - Pena, ss - Nicasia, of - Walling, of/1b/dh, with a bench of Anderson, of - DiTuri, if - Diaz, c. Along with Alastre, Nadal and Barrios/Holguin. Anyone missing? Or not accounted for?
  7. My morning routine (or is it a ritual)is back. my family came back last night so I opted not to watch the Sounds game (outside of an u neventful 2nd Inning). but this is my first morning read today. Life is good. Thanks again.
  8. Yup I have been waiting for minor league opening day since about late last September ;)
  9. And how did I miss Ty Duvall - who is he and where did he come from? (Well yes I realize a quick Google search and I will have those answers), just a name I somehow missed this past offseason I guess UPDATE - so he was just signed as a FA on 3/26/25 as Mass reported in the Transaction thread - Ha! I need to read all the forums before posting ..... 😉
  10. It's in the Nashville thread But Black is on the IL per Curt Hogg
  11. There is a lot of helium with Jesus, and I want to see him succeed, but also realize that Jackson Chourio ascension is a generational scenario where the talent and the production mesh so quickly. I suspect Jesus will stay at low A all season with a late season call up to A+ if doing very well. But we are all speculating here. I would love for him to mash, go up to high A in the 2nd half and then join Biloxi for the end of season/playoffs (similar to Chourio), but I also have dreams that don't quite come true in real life as well. Pena will another interesting one to watch, as he seems to be running made with Jesus and it will be curious if the two prospects rise in tandem (assuming similar production), or whether they will see different paths. Again, I want Jesus to do well given all the hype, but I am accepting that having a solid low A season and being in Carolina all year is still a very positive sign (Lara and Yophery have both done that and I don't think were hurt with that approach), and Jesus is about 6 months younger than both were when they started low A, so this is already a "promotion" compare to those two, And he is 2 months younger than Chourio was in his low A debut.
  12. They should join him at some point- hopefully sooner rather than later.
  13. Thanks for doing this Mass! And wow @Jack Stern - impressive for Easton McGee. Hopeful he can have a breakout season.
  14. Wow that media guide is impressive, and yes I love the optimism of his best guesses as Jesus Made is in the Shuckers guide. Alright Javik I would love to see him on the Shuckers during the Southern League championship games.
  15. Interesting. Maybe a way to ensure more at bats and allow him time to get re-acclimated? He was Nashville opening day C so this is a “demotion” but hopefully more a “rehab assignment”.
  16. Wow. Ok. Thanks for the update. Hopeful for a full recovery. He was one of my under the radar-ish favorite pitchers for this upcoming year. I will be ready for next with him.
  17. Did I miss where he was injured. I’m bummed- M. Rodriguez, Cortez and B. Rivera were my Carolina pitching crushes last season (outside of the Knoth/Letson duo).
  18. Can you or someone remind me what the colors mean again? I figured blue is switch hitting, but I didn't realize that Blake Burke and I am assuming Hedbert Perez were swith hitters? And Jheremy Vargas was a right handed hitter last year, so that is throwing me off. Also the light blue for DiTuri (who is switch hitter right?) and Hall (who is definitely LHH)? Anyway, no worries, as I am clearly scrutinizing this way too much. But minor league games can't come soon enough 😉
  19. It was fun to watch Jesus Made, Luis Pena and Jose Anderson. Anderson with a HR was nice to see. Made and Pena made some hard contact, and both were caught stealing. Otherwise it was typical outings for Lara, Yophery and Bitonti. Even Adams had his HBP and sac fly. Solid game by Matt Wood with a double and a caught stealing. Miz was not so sharp - his control continues to be his barrier to breaking through. I didn't watch Letson's innings (internet was down). But did watch Wichrowski who was typical for him, big time stuff, but may not control it enough which leads to walks and full counts. I was impressed with Hardin and Hostetler. I watched Hardin's debut in Carolina and he seemed more in command or just knew what he had to do, and Hostetler has some intriguing raw stuff, I thought they said his last pitch was 97. Yoho was just Yoho. Fun game, outside of the 1st and 3rd innings for the pitching side. I would have to watch again, but the pitching was better with Wood (and even Miller) in the game which was either a catching effect, or due to the pitchers that were out there (Yoho, Hardin and Hostetler).
  20. 😬 whoops on Clarke. And ok , some of those guys will opt out to look for other opportunities. Also nice seeing the MiLB line up cards tonight.
  21. Boeve may start the year on IL likely as he comes back from surgery - I can’t recall of it was his throwing arm, so he could see a lot of 1B when back. And Quero will likely DH. Alfaro and ?? Will most work at C for Nashville Monasterio may likely be odd man out for IF (probably behind Dunn, Capra and Durbin) so will play at AAA We also have Siegler who will likely play SS or 3B So I see Martinez, Delgado, Siegler, Monasterio in IF with Zamora UT OF- rotations of Bauers, Hicklen, Collins, Black. DH - Quero rotating with Bauers/Black. And Alfaro at C, along with ? Rodriguez or Diaz ?. Not sure of Canha makes the bigs or AAA. And no idea what to make of Spain or Herron.
  22. And he makes us feel like it's 2024 again .... 0-2 with a K. Sigh EBJ with a hit, so that's a nice sign, and he had a SB to boot. And Bo Bowman with the stranded runner, first batter HBP, then two outs, and he earns the W.
  23. Great post. I will defer to our esteemed minor league reporters and frequent posters here, but as one who signed up for MiLB TV package last season, I thought it was definitely worth it. You can watch most (not quite all due to some teams without TV/video) of the games. You can watch several games at once if you wanted to as well or just bounce back and forth - and watch them archived if you couldn't watch live. So to watch the prospects I think it is the way to go. There are a ton of players that are exciting at many levels. As far as Jesus Made, he should start at Carolina in low A, likely with Braylon Payne among others. So the Mudcats games will be worth watching. But as certain players start to make their name as well they will become must-watch (ie watching Yoho and Hunt come out of nowhere last season was a treat) And as a tip, I always have that day's minor league thread open as many of the posters (Jim, Joseph Zarr, Ro Mueller, Wiguy94, Sveumrules, Brewman, MudcatsFan among several others that I know I am forgetting and will kick myself for overlooking) will keep you updated and entertained. I had a blast trying to join this illustrious crew last summer and hope to do the same this year.
  24. Well shoot. I missed that completely, and must have missed in the Forum here too. Ugh I will watch later, interested to hear the time frame for return. Thanks
  25. Wow what a young squad. I mean 8 players have yet to play a professional season in the States. There are 3 former DSL players (Pena, Made, Anderson), 4 players from 2024 draft (Dinges, Meccage, Payne, Burke) and 1 UDFA (Hostetler). I thought last year we had more A/AA players on that squad. And we have a few 2023 draftees (Wilken, Pratt, Bitonti, Wichrowski, Letson, Yoho). Interestingly no Boeve, Hunt along with no Henderson or Black.
