  1. As much as I appreciated Jenkins' effort during his time in Milwaukee, I have to agree with those who say there is simply no room for him. In fact, I'd go so far as to agree he will probably have to retire. He's the kind of guy who needs to play every day and get hot in order to be useful, and there aren't a lot of teams that can afford to stick him in a corner outfield position and hope he hits at the right time. The other side of the argument is that if he can stay in shape, he presents a chance for someone to bring in an outfielder with a live bat at some point in the season.
  2. I'm sure it would be a similar reaction to what we've seen here. Maybe a little more venom, but we're just not that kind of people. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  3. Telly worked a high school hockey game in Hermantown MN (near my home) earlier this winter. He was awful. OK on Timberwolves games, awful on hockey games. I haven't seen him on baseball, but if he doesn't come across as knowledgeable, it's a terrible hire by FSN. He clearly knows basketball, and it's the only reason he's tolerable there.
  4. Harry Caray was born in St. Louis and unapologetically rooted for the Cardinals in the booth every day for over 20 years. He worked for the freaking White Sox before the Cubs hired him. I'd say that if the right person was available, the Cubs would make that hire in a heartbeat. (I mean, seriously, you don't think they'd take Joe Buck if he were available? Come on.)
  5. http://www.geotonix.com/image.axd?picture=businessman-banging-his-head-against-the-wall-ispc026073%5B1%5D.jpg I guess I just don't hate the Cubs enough to understand.
  6. Cripes, people. Give the guy a chance. I know the Braves were never a division rival, but when JP called a Brewers-Braves game, you weren't keenly aware that he grew up a Braves fan, were you? These people are professionals. They understand their job, and Cory will do it just fine. The majority of radio listeners won't have a clue the guy grew up a Cubs fan unless he or Uecker make mention of it during a game. I can guarantee you that he wouldn't have even thought of taking this job if he didn't think he could set his fandom aside and do a good job.
  7. The more we see the Cardinals operate, the less classy they seem.
  8. According to this, the Brewers are set for five national TV appearances in 2009. This doesn't count Monday/Wednesday nights on ESPN, which are not necessarily national games, and any late-season changes. So far, here's what they have: Sunday Night Baseball April 12 vs Cubs May 24 at Twins FOX Saturday Baseball June 13 vs White Sox June 20 at Tigers September 5 vs Giants
  9. AJ Burnett is like the hot but psycho girl who the guys all fawn over until they realize she's psycho. At that point, only a few decent guys hover around her, thinking they can "fix" her. Burnett has a million-dollar arm and a ten-cent head. Oh, and his throwing mechanics will probably lead to his arm falling off at some point in the near future. But, hey, yeah, give him $100 million guaranteed. BRILLIANT!
  10. Thanks, CC. Your work here won't soon be forgotten. I tip my off-center cap to you, sir. Hold this against him all you want, but he has the union and his agent chomping away at him trying to get him to set the market. At least one pitcher (Lowe) was reportedly waiting for Sabathia to sign before he started seriously entertaining offers, because he wanted the market set by the best guy out there. I know the agent and the union are supposed to back Sabathia and not decide FOR him what is best for him, but we all know that the system doesn't work that way anymore.
  11. Bill Plaschke is throwing a party tonight to celebrate.
  12. Relevant baseball at Miller Park in September and October. The Packers, who many of us adore, were completely irrelevant for two weeks, and not just because they were stinking up the joint. 3 million-plus fans. Many days of frustration and angst, many emotions, but a fun ride, and one that many of us (especially those of us who aren't really old enough to remember 1982) won't forget anytime soon. Thanks.
  13. Our season lasted longer than the Cubs' did. And you couldn't have found one "expert" who would have said that a week ago.
  14. Does it only stink for the opponents? Outside of Hart's misplay against the Twins, I don't remember a lot of major incidents during the season.
  15. I don't think there's any question that the Phillies' control problems are due to the crappy, uneven mound at Miller Park.
  16. Is our grass really that bad, or is TBS' irrational Brewer hate continuing?
  17. Yes, but I don't feel right taking as much joy as I did out of watching that game last night.
  18. UW-Eau Claire, then UW-Superior. Spent way too much time drinking and getting mad at the Packers.
  19. Well, that's a little hyperbole right there, too (just to be fair to, um, me). And you don't want to be my shrink. You got that right. There isn't nearly enough money in my wallet to make it worth your effort. That said, I wish I could flip a switch and react less emotionally and more like many of you. I mean that. I've calmed noticeably from my can-crushing and item-throwing days in college, but I hate how mad I get.
  20. Absolutely 175,000% correct. If he takes that pitch, he doesn't get a better one to hit the rest of the at-bat, no matter how long it lasts. Romero was notorious while in Minnesota for trying to get away with grooving first pitches. It's the best time to try to get him.
  21. You mean I've never actually set my Brewer hat on fire or thrown my shoe through the television while Dave Bush walks another .173 hitter on four pitches? Well, my wife will appreciate that, I guess. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/laugh.gif
  22. There's another good sign. Unless Milwaukee gets a freak heat wave, this won't be a problem on Saturday. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  23. As a broadcaster, I've kind of been in this type of spot before. I gotta think it's one of the tougher assignments anyone in this business can have. I'm sure TBS wanted him to do these games because of his knowledge of the Brewers (it's a nice balance to the "none" that Simpson and Smoltz seem to have), but it requires him to forget about the last six months of his life. MUCH easier said than done, and I have a ton more respect for him than I had before yesterday's game started. (And I've been pretty staunchly pro-Brian since he got the job.)
  24. Um, yeah. That was very impressive. I wish it had come under more favorable circumstances.
  25. I actually thought it was a good idea for me to flip to the football game for a little while. A cooldown period was warranted. I've gone from "anger" to "acceptance". It's easier to just walk away sometimes. Keeps things from being flung at the TV I haven't paid off yet. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
