  1. We can finally use that five letter word. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/happy.gif
  2. Bill-- Agreed re: the pitch count. I don't think the Brewers work the count enough. But lately, it hasn't mattered whether they were swinging at the first pitch or the fifth pitch. At least they scored a run.
  3. I figured so, but I still haven't seen the Crew record one. My goodness is this aggravating. And I'm not watching Hack or whatever the hell else is on. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/happy.gif
  4. Bill-- I think the increased confidence from his manager has helped. For a time, it seemed that Gardenhire was afraid Santana's arm would fall off if he threw more than 100 pitches in a game. Sunday's game showed me that Gardie has moved past this ridiculous notion. Good. No more Wes. Hopefully, this is a permanent statement. Or am I not allowed to rip him either? http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/embarassed.gif
  5. Bill-- I can't control Ben Grieve's actual effort. But when a guy who sucks defensively also plays without any emotion, one can't help but observe what I observed. There's no way in hell that Ginter is worse defensively than Grieve. Give him a shot in right and DH Grieve. It's bad enough that Grieve plays as much as he does in RF when we play in NL parks. As for Obie, you'll get no argument from me. I thought his last start was going to be his last start. If it's not tonight, it might be time to check his locker for dirty pictures of Ned. I have a question: Between being at work and getting my son ready for bed, I haven't been able to watch the entire game with my full undivided attention. But have we swung at a first pitch at all? Every time I've looked, one of our guys is taking a first-pitch strike. Meanwhile, the Twins are swinging at first pitches and killing Wes. Just curious. And either Johan Santana flipped the switch before Sunday's start, or we're making him look probably twice as good as he really is. I know how good he's capable of being, but he hadn't really approached it all season until Sunday. Considering how good we made the Colorado pitchers look this week, my vote is still for this not being a coincidence. Santana's ERA will go back up once he starts playing teams that aren't the Brewers.
  6. Bill-- I'm not sure if Ben's in your pocket, but I think you're the one making assumptions about people. You assume that I questioned Ben's character. All I said was that he ACTS like he could care less. If you'd read back a few years, you'd find that is one of the biggest knocks on Grieve. He's nonchalant. He doesn't show emotion. Never really has. Well, it drives me nuts. If you have the ability, go back and watch some Oakland games from Grieve's younger days. I used to watch them all the time because ESPN didn't have many Wednesday night late game options. You'll find that he has regressed defensively, not so much in terms of fielding percentage, but in range and his ability to judge where the ball is going. The defensive numbers might be better for all I know, but I don't pay much attention to them. As for the Andruw Jones comparison, it's one of the more ridiculous things I've read in a while, and I read a Sid Hartman newspaper column last week. They're not even in the same league in terms of talent. I'll take Andruw Jones "dogging it" over Ben Grieve "dogging it" any day. And the comment about his offense was equally absurd. He's hitting .265. Hardly lighting it up, though like I said, he's adequate with the stick. That means you should DH him when you can...and tonight certainly qualifies. EDIT: Erik--I live in Minnesota. I've seen most of Santana's starts. We're making him look better than he's looked all season.
  7. Erik-- Ginter makes an effort to get better as a fielder. Grieve has gotten worse since he first came up, and he acts like he could care less. But we have bigger problems right now. Like the fact that we're trying to put Johan Freaking Santana in the Hall of Fame...right alongside Aaron Cook and Shawn Chacon. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/mad.gif
  8. No. It stems from the fact that a fire hydrant could play better defense. It's become clear that this team is not going to win because of its offense. If they continue to win, which is a big IF right now, it's going to be because of their pitching and defense. If you're going to lean on your pitching and defense to win games, you can't have people in the field who don't know their ass from a hole in the ground on defense. Ben Grieve is one of those guys. I don't mind him being in the lineup, because he's actually (and shockingly) hit a little this season. But how do you not DH him when you have a chance to?
  9. OLE! (Commence Lou Brown rant on Roger Dorn during spring training, the one that ends shortly afterward when Dorn pulls out his contract and Brown p*sses on it.)
  10. Many of the screwups I've seen from him could be overcome with simple effort. He lollygags out there, and it drives me crazy. I can't believe we tolerate that kind of crap from a player like Grieve, who's barely worth the time it took to sew his name on the back of his jersey.
  11. Triple post. Ben Grieve sucks. Next time, make a freaking effort to catch the ball. You know you're not good when you make Jeromy Burnitz look like a graceful Gold Glover.
  12. This is ridiculous. Do the Brewers realize they're facing Johan Santana, and not Sandy Koufax in his prime?
  13. Hey Junior...Next time, try to swing before the ball hits the catcher's mitt. Normally, that will give you a better chance of actually hitting the baseball. I believe that is the goal, but given the performances as of late, I'm not absolutely certain of this.
  14. To Clark's credit, he did swing. Just not at the right pitch.
  15. On the bright side, we all know they're going to get skunked tomorrow when Santana pitches again.
  16. A few thoughts: 1. The call on Moeller was a joke. I almost put my foot through the TV when Blyleven talked about how great a pitch it was. We watched as the same flipping pitch was called a ball all afternoon, until Nathan threw it. Granted, Moeller probably didn't have a snowball's chance in hell of doing anything, but it would have been nice to see him get a chance with the strike zone everyone else had to play with. 2. Ginter had two check-swings that were called strikes that I questioned. I didn't get to see a replay on either of them, because the pukes at Fox Sports North-Minnesota didn't have the guts to show them. 3. No matter what you think of those calls, the Brewers' approach at the plate needs to change. Especially with the shadows that should be an advantage to us by now. It's not like they're ever really any different than this. Get used to them, suck it up, and hit the ball. It's a mental game now more than anything else. 4. Santana was really good, but his command in the first four innings was borderline dreadful. It's the same kind of uneven performance that got him the numbers he has right now, which are mediocre. In the three outings before yesterday, he was consistent and had command of every pitch. Yesterday, the Brewers let him off the hook in the first four innings, even though they could have chased him by then. 5. Isn't it nice to have something like this to complain about? I'll take 35-31 right now, as it's better than the 28-38 type of record I expected them to have.
  17. We're going to have a helluva time scoring runs today. There's little doubt it's a matchup that favors the other team. When we have a matchup that favors us, we lose. Maybe we can turn the tables on someone today. Jenkins and Overbay will have to be on. And Santana is a guy you can't give up on. Just because he's in an early groove doesn't mean anything. He had a no-hitter through five against Tampa in a recent start, and the Rays touched him for four in the sixth to win the game. He's not a high pitch count guy, so you can chase him early if you can get him up near 100 pitches. He is a former long reliever, and I'm not sure Gardenhire is comfortable letting him throw a ton of pitches yet.
  18. Wow. That's all I can say. Wow. Keep it up, boys! Must. Complete. Three. Game. Winning. Streak. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/happy.gif
  19. batman-- Exactly. And while I could probably let it go under normal circumstances, these jacks pulled it last year with EY. I'm just so sick of how unprofessional they are. They're too busy talking about Blyleven's HOF chances, and Blyleven is too busy stealing Madden's "circle stupid-looking people in the stands" schtick, to actually call the game. I was so happy when the Twins started Victory Sports and it wasn't on TV anywhere, and then FSN decided to expand their Brewers coverage into eastern Minnesota (I live near Duluth). Too bad that had to blow up last month. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/mad.gif
  20. Just so you're all aware, the Twins TV morons have called Keith Ginter "Matt" for the whole game. Apparently, the producer/director in the truck think it's funny, as they haven't made the correction yet. This isn't anything new. Last year, they referred to EY as "Ernie Young" until the final game of the season series. If you ask me, it's pretty embarrassing when you so blatantly screw up someone's name as it appears on the TV screen. But who am I? I only work in TV. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/pimp.gif
  21. Make Silva throw strikes. He's a guy who has trouble with consistency, though he's pitched very well this month. And don't let this offense get going. They don't hit a ton of HRs, but they'll kill you with gap shots if you let them.
  22. You aren't going to win when your best hitters can't bring runs in when you need them to (Jenks and Overbay in the seventh). Lefty or righty, you need them to come through there. Adams gives up a two-run dong to something called Randy Winn. I'd say the pitchers' inability to keep obscure players from hitting two-run home runs has really hurt today. And that one isn't on Matt Kinney. This team is much better than they should be. They'll have days like this...and it's nice to know that we can all get frustrated over this team's inability to sweep a series, and their inability to get to five games OVER .500, because I didn't think either would be a major issue when the season started. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  23. I don't know how much FSN normally screws up in WI, but the MN version of it makes a lot of little mistakes like that. As for last night, Uecker was just as confused as anyone. He thought the first pitch was called a ball, too.
  24. Bottom line: We all know this, but this team can't win if they don't start hitting. This pitching staff is only capable of so many pick-me-up performances before they fall flat on their face. But if they aren't required to carry the team, I think they can be okay. This team is a 7-1 loss away from falling apart. Here's to finding a way to get the offense going before that happens.
  25. Whoever said they're going to puke should get a barf bag. Seasons go bad with games like this. The boys need to rebound with Ace pitching tomorrow.
