  1. Wandy has been much better than Randy in recent years - I'd be ecstatic if he is being viewed as a Betancourt throw in type, I highly doubt that he is being viewed that way though. I'm all for it as long as it doesn't cost us a chance at resigning anybody.
  2. and we beat them 2 out of 3 times in Milwaukee and Lincecum did pitch in that series. If I had a choice, I'd much rather see the Giants than the Phillies in the 1st round.
  3. Another fine example of why UZR and advanced defensive metrics should be taken with a grain of salt. There is no way he is the 8th best defensive 3b in the league with the 6th best range - which is where he currently ranks according to the advanced metrics. He'd be lucky to be out of the bottom 3 in either area.
  4. Don't really buy that - for example, I think we could have got a bit more than Carlos Gomez for Hardy had he been traded 1 year previous to his bad year. Also, just because certain players had equal value or close to it doesn't mean that the asking price from 2 different teams will be anywhere close. I don't think the Rays would have took that package without Ax being included and I'm still not sure they would have then, would have depended on their interest in Escobar. I'm still shocked the Royals took the package they did and I think it would have been far more difficult to match up with the Rays and I think they would have asked for more.
  5. Brewers don't have the prospects to make it happen - he's been one of the better shorstops for a few years running and with his youth, a lot of teams would be interested. I also think the whole thing is BS, White Sox are 3.5 games back with guys like Dunn playing the worst baseball of their lives, they are far from out of it and Kenny Williams always seems to try and go for it.
  6. Brewers need to improve the team where ever they can - SS seems very unlikely as there just isn't much out there and a number of contenders could use an upgrade there. 3B has a few options but really, it should just be Green. So if Kuroda can be had at the right price, then I'm all for it - especially if they can pick up a guy like Carroll to fill in at 3b/ss when needed.
  7. He has said he wants to stay on the west coast and while he does have a no trade clause, he has refused to submit the list of teams he'd accept a trade to. He has said he wants to review it on a case by case basis.
  8. Yet the Pirates have a winning record on the road and they have a winning record against teams that have a winning record. I really hope the Brewers aren't overlooking the Pirates as much as some around here.
  9. Maybe it was just a sloppy T he was throwing up, his post game comments (as Tony Plush - not Nyjer Morgan) seem to indicate otherwise. I'm surprised more people don't have a problem with him doing it because of the possible consequences - not necessarily the action itself. I think we can all agree that type of behavior at least runs the risk of a possible suspension considering his history. With that risk in mind, and his backups now being Kotsay/Carroll rather than Gomez........ I think it's 10,000 x's more important he keeps his mouth shut. and now Nyjer seems to be enjoying his moment a bit too much and gets thrown out trying to steal 3rd with Braun at the plate....... head in the game, ignore the fans nyjer.
  10. Apples and Oranges - Morgan is just competitive and likes to talk smack and clown around. Bradley straight up had screws loose.
  11. This is his 3rd incident with fans in less than a year, granted his suspension was dropped in one of those incidents - would not be shocking at all to see him get a suspension from MLB for this. I'm not saying he deserves it, but it is the MLB and being run by Selig......... would not be the least bit surprising. I read on one of the other sites that he was also jawing with fans the next inning and was also making the jerking off reference to fans................ but hey, if he is producing who cares, right? Personally, I don't think he deserves any suspension but if I were his manager I'd give him an earfull and ask him why he think he is on his 3rd team in 3 years even though he possesses the talent he does. I'd also ask him how that helps his team at all? I know everyone is in love with T-Plush at the moment - and I'm by no means saying I don't like the guy, in fact I've loved watching him play and enjoyed his postgame antics - but he needs to stay focused on the game and ignore everything else during the game. If he wants to clown around after games, that is fine - but during the game, keep your damn head in it.
  12. Hammer: I don't have a major problem with what he did on a personal level. That said, I could easily see mlb suspending a player for doing something like this - especially one that has had 2 previous incidents with fans - couldn't you? That is the part that irritates me with Morgan. He should know better at this point, it's one thing to have the initial comment to fans...... even to show how many outs there are towards the fans, but it should have stopped there. He took it to far when he gave the 'f you' to the fans - watch the video, it's clear what he meant - then preceded to mock the fans when he conducted them..... then jawed more with them before he ran off the field. Like I said, I don't have a major problem with what he did, I just think he took it too far at that point and it also shows me his head isn't in the game 100%. Which to me is another problem in itself. Pisses me off that a player couldn't keep his mouth shut with fans and may (and I will stress may as this is complete speculation at this point) have put the team in a very tough spot in CF for a few games when it's already a very, very tight race in the division. Brewers don't have the luxury of being down a man in this race.
  13. Problem is, with his history, it could cost him games if MLB intervenes and leave the Brewers with Kotsay/Carroll in CF. Considering the ump felt the need to address with him in the dugout, I'm guessing it'll get a long look from MLB and it wouldn't be shocking at all to Morgan get a few games for this, possibly more considering this is his 3rd offense with fans. It's juvenile and serves no purpose what so ever - keep your mouth shut and let your play talk for you. EDIT: FWIW, I don't think Morgan deserves it, but it is what it is and he should know better at this point in his career.
  14. Not even close Jwill - what you described is discreet, he was not discreet about it at all, short of sticking your middle finger up at someone that is as close as it is to saying F you to someone. Furthermore, with Gomez out, by making the gesture towards fans - With his history, you know MLB is going to look closely at that and considering he did a lot more after the gesture.......... it doesn't help his case - he puts the Brewers in a position where they may have to go 5+ games with Brett Carroll and Mark Kotsay in CF. Sit there and tell me you still don't have a problem with it.
  15. There was stuff with the fans in the Fla/Was brawl he started last year as well. He also has the incident where MLB pulled back the suspension for throwing a ball at a fan....... 2 incidents in his past with fans and as minor as this might be, this is now a 3rd incident that is getting attention. The guy needs to just ignore fans and focus on the game - let your game do the talking. You don't need to make the catch, say something to the fans, then gesture how many outs there are towards the fans............. then give them the F You sign............. then when they boo you, "conduct the orchestra" (see espn video).............. then jaw with them before you run off the field. Seriously, how can a Brewer fan NOT have a problem with him doing all that last night?
  16. Hadn't seen this before, I now take back my previous statements - what Morgan did was wrong and he probably should be sat for at least a game, and that's not to say that the fans didn't do anything wrong either - but Morgan get's paid a lot of money to be a professional, act like one. There is no place for that in the game in this day and age.
  17. First line had me spit my drink out - thanks for that one http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif I'm not really trying to say what Morgan did was wrong - but in the year 2011, what good can come from giving it back to the fans on the road? Is there any possible positive outcome to that situation? He also kept jawing after his first comments towards them...... so it wasn't just a quick comment towards them. Morgan already got suspended once for something with fan interaction - personally I would ignore all fans after that and as much as I enjoy T-Plush, I'd much rather see Morgan just focus on his game. Yes, the whole thing is being blown up more than it should be - no doubt about that - but it's real simple, Morgan keeps his mouth shut and just plays the game........... there is nothing to blow up.
  18. I've been banging this drum for a while now. There is at least a glimmer of hope with YB (recent hot streak, every season in majors he has been better in the 2nd half, etc.) while the only thing we have to hang our hat on with McGehee is hope, and even that hope is a reach as we are hoping he gets back to playing above his head and it is becoming more and more clear that 2010 and the 2nd half of 2009 were the career outliers.
  19. Come on man - Morgan should keep his mouth shut, plain and simple. There is zero excuse for a pro-athlete to start jawing with a fan - during the middle of a game mind you - in this day and age. If anybody should know better, it's Morgan himself who once got suspended by MLB for something with the fans. I've loved watching the guy play - but I've been waiting for this as well. I know he is the toast of Mil-town right now - or at least t-plush is - but let's be honest here guys, if Alfonso Soriano came in and made a great catch down the line and then started jawing with fans and making hand signals at them............. probably wouldn't sit too well with some on here. As someone else said, he should cool it on the road - it's one thing to put on the show at home with the alter ego, it's another to rile up other fans with it. Last thing we need is something to escalate from something as stupid to this and have it lead to a bean ball war or brawl (last thing we need is morgan getting plunked and charging - see Washington last year) and end up having it lead to an injury or suspension for one of the key guys.
  20. The other difference is the Brewers had stars in Braun, Fielder and Sheets. Pirates really don't have any big names - biggest star is McCutchen and not many who don't follow the game know who he is.
  21. The Brewers were 4 games out of 1st place on July 7th, 2008 - the day they traded for CC- there was no reason to talk about them before the trade. Pirates aren't getting any more coverage than they should - and they've earned every bit they are getting. It's ok to give credit where it is due every now and then and the Pirates have earned it so far this season. Outside of Karstens, I'm happy to see them do well - albeit I hope they end up just short.
  22. Sorry, didn't mean to imply that you had said that, but a poster did on the previous page and that is what I was referencing.
  23. I agree with you 110% and think Green should be up here - I just don't put it on RR, I put it on Melvin because at the end of the day Melvin can overrule RR on player decisions, RR can't go past Melvin and make a move. It's Melvins job to stock the roster - it's RR's job to coach what is on that roster.
  24. No doubt RR has some input - but at the end of the day, he doesn't make the decision. Melvin does. Cherry picking a quote and trying to pin Green being stuck at AAA on RR is a big stretch.
  25. Wow, that is nuts that they have all been solo shots.
