  1. Nope, we'll never agree if your going to completely make stuff up. As for Bedard, your completely undervaluing what they'll want. #1 Nobody will give anything up for Jeffress at this point. #2 The M's gave up 2 all stars for Bedard (and 3 other prospects). It's going to take at least 1 elite prospect and several mid level prospects to acquire Bedard.
  2. I meant to start a thread 2-3 weeks ago to see if anyone had heard what happened with him. If the price is right, wouldn't hurt......
  3. O's stats: OBP - 16th in the league Runs - 13th OPS - 14th That's as middle as the pack as it gets - 2 of them are in the top half, but when I look at team stats I split it into 1/3rds. Top 10 are above average, middle 10 are average and bottom 10 are below average. There is no "may be inflated" - All AL teams stats benefit from the DH. Youk is normally the Red Sox's 1b, he'll also play 3rd and is right now with Lowell is on the DL - So it's not always simple as the DH just filling in for the least productive offensive player. Rather than look at the Red Sox DH spot, it might make sense to stick to the O's. Scott could play 1B or a corner OF spot - that would mean benching a productive player if they were an NL team. As for AL East pitching vs NL central pitching..... The Cardinals and Cubs staff ranks higher in almost every category than any team from the East. Which category would you like to compare them in? The Reds, Pirates and Astros staff are actually pretty solid with a lot of young quality pitching in there. Sure Bedard is a better option than Davis - but he'll cost elite prospects, Davis shouldn't. He's actually having a heck of a season.......
  4. Post from page 17: Please stop making the AL/NL comparisons - The majority of AL teams will rank ahead of NL teams because of the DH...... I don't mean to be rude, but it's downright foolish to compare team stats from the 2 leagues. The O's primary DH has 17HR's and 50 RBI's...... take that away and replace it with a pitcher hitting and they fall into the bottom portion between the 2 leagues. The O's went on to put up 10 runs after Bedard left - so they obviously were swining the bats pretty well, but when it comes down to it, they are a below average team offensively. The stats back this up. This has gotten way off topic though - Bedard shouldn't be an option unless he can come over for a few lower level prospects and nothing major, otherwise I'd rather pass on him. The cubs comparison is a fare one, but they still had a pretty solid staff without Harden in Z, Dempster and Lilly. The Brewers don't and if they are gonna make a move and have it pay off - the guy they trade for needs to be durable if they are going to have a shot at post season baseball.
  5. Your saying the O's are a top offense, but their numbers suffer because of the elite pitching they face. AL east pitching has been below average this year...... If your theory were true, then some of the AL east pitching would be ranked near the top, but they aren't. Your argument simply doesn't add up when you look at the stats - The fact is the O's are an average (at best) offense that ranks in the bottom half of their league in most major offensive categories. I really don't see the point of this whole debate anyhow....... I didn't see Bedard pitch last night, so i can't comment on the O's helping him out.
  6. I don't mean to keep going back and forth with you but: NL Central Teams ERA Cardinals 3.77 Pirates 4.26 Cubs 3.83 Astros 4.20 Reds 4.20 AL East Yankees 4.42 Red Sox 4.08 Blue Jays 4.28 Rays 4.13 NL Central has 2 teams in the top 5 in all of baseball. Bedard is the biggest risk because of his injury history imo.
  7. Very misleading when you look at all of baseball - why do you think only 1 NL team is in the top 5 for HR's, Runs scored, SLG and AVG? The DH might just have a little something to do with that. Even if we ignore that - the O's are still average in all of baseball - they only rank in the top 1/3rd in one category: 13th in runs 15th in HR's 7th in AVG 14th in SLG
  8. I think the sox would jump all over it if Doug only wanted Buchholz in return - but this is a move suited for the offseason or if the brewers fall completely out of it before the deadline. Doug wants to find players that are going to help the brewers make a run at post season baseball, Buchholz has struggled at the major league level and he is a great prospect but you can't count on him to make a run. Maybe I missed it, but I haven't seen any national media outlets saying that Hardy wasn't enough of a return for Buchholz...... even googled it.
  9. Comparing teams stats from 2 different leagues isn't really fair. O's rank in the bottom half of their league in most of the offensive stats - brewers rank near the top for most of the categories (except avg). This is a pretty foolish debate though - I hope they don't make a move for Bedard, way to injury prone to count on and we've been down that road before.
  10. Baltimore ranks 10th in that AL in runs scored 10th in HR's 6th in AVG 11th in SLG I'd say that is below average
  11. Halladay's next scheduled start is Thursday....... hey, just sayinhttp://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  12. This would be a move better suited for the offseason imo.
  13. I feel the same way - brewers have two legit #1's if this trade is pulled off, Escobar is the guy I want to keep but based on what I read he would have to be part of the deal...... but like you said, we'd be contenders this season and next...... can't really put a price tag on that.
  14. I saw that - mostly wishful thinking on my part.......
  15. Hmmm.... they just cleared a roster spot........ TH's blog says the brewers starter for Thursday's game is TBA...... Halladay's next scheduled start is Thursday. These things all could mean nothing, but is it possible a deal is a lot closer than we think? We do match up well and as we learned last year, DM likes to strike early..... I don't want to see them trade any current starters, but as long as the prospects do not include Escobar I'd be a happy camper.
  16. Cubs are 3-7 over their last 10, They've scored 3 runs combined in their last 3 games...... call me crazy, but I expect a split and am hoping for a series win.
  17. Arb contracts are non-guaranteed, aren't they? Meaning the brewers could have just released Sheets in the spring once it became clear he couldn't pitch.
  18. So you think your experience (I mean your friends) encompasses how everyone will interact with the aforementioned drugs? Plus you had one addiction to aid you through qutting a different one. Think about it this way, millions of people have had a drink this past week - the vast majority don't abuse it, aren't alcoholics and if there was a reason for them to never drink again - they wouldn't. However, there are some that can't control it, abuse it and let it destroy their lives. Try and understand that each person reacts differently - go read the quote I posted on the last page again. It's not always about the substance, it has just as much - if not more - to do with the person. If it's affected his life this much and he still can't stop..... that's textbook addiction. I think some people misinterpret that as people making an excuse for him - it's not - he royally screwed up and he needs to recognize that and get help.
  19. and you base this on what? For the heck of it, I googled it just to see what they had to say on it - and in the year 2000 nearly 100,000 people sought out treatment for marijuana dependency. It's nearly 10 years later and it wouldn't surprise me if that number has gone WAY up with pot becoming more and more mainstream. I thought this also summed it up pretty well:
  20. A person knowing what they have to gain and what they have to lose really doesn't have anything to do with addiction. When someone is addicted, they really don't care about any of that - they might give you a nice speech and tell you they do, but all they really care about is the next high and yes, for some people weed is the drug of choice - it's not a hard drug, but people still become addicted. Also, just because someone goes to rehab one time - doesn't mean they are cured for the remainder of their lives..... People don't get better until they REALLY want to get better and deal with the issues that pushed them down the wrong path. One of two things is going on with him: - He has an addiction and hasn't dealt with whatever it is that turned him onto substance abuse in the first place - He just doesn't care and just wants to party
  21. I've liked the idea of Lopez since the day Weeks went down. Davis is nothing spectacular, but it's better than anything else we have for a 5th starter right now. I would think both could be had fairly cheaply...... Lopez is on a 1 year deal and this is the last year of Davis's contract.
  22. #1 they are only 1 game back after tonights game #2 If it it were a mirage, they wouldn't have been in first for well over a month (up until a few days ago) The offense is essentially the same as last year - The pitching is not as good, but CC was here for a few months and Sheets was gone for a portion of the season due to injury. A full season of Yo (assuming he can stay close to pitching at his current level) and another top of the line starter such as Lee or Bedard and this team is just as good as last years team. It amazes me how so many are ready to jump off the ledge after a 3 game series in a 162 game season.
  23. If your gonna say someone isn't fair, then you should at least be fair. Colorado won 5 in a row coming into the series and ended up winning 11 straight - They are 16-1 over their past 17 games. The sox is a series that should have been won, they let the sunday game slip away from them..... but as they say, you can't win them all. If they can land a front of the line starter (Lee or Bedard) they become the clear front runners in the division - this entire thread is a knee jerk reaction to a bad series on the road..... it's baseball, it happens, it's a long season and even the best of the best teams lose series and get swept. That being said, I do think the brewer need to acquire an above average arm if they plan on playing post season baseball this year.
  24. Step away from the ledge folks - still went .500 on the road trip. yes, the starting pitching is in a big slump right now - it's not as good as it was earlier this season, and it's not as bad as it's been this past week. They do need to make a move for a pitcher though - I'm not gonna speculate on who that might be, but I suspect that Melvin is doing everything he can and it wouldn't shock me to see a move before the end of June or even within the next week. You've also got to look at the schedule, if memory serves they have had one of the tougher schedules and have played 7 or 8 more games on the road than at home to date.
  25. It's part of TH's job to deal with the readers - rude, considerate and everyone in between. Does he get a lot of crappy emails, phone calls, etc.? I'm sure he does, but it doesn't excuse his actions. I stopped reading his blog for the most part around spring training when he felt the need to post an entry about one of the guys leaving comments about a possible Peavy trade........ He seems to take it personally when someone doesn't agree with him or if they ask him about something he hasn't reported on. If he can't handle people disagreeing with him and act like a professional during that process, he needs to find a new line of work.
