  1. I'm on board with selling now
  2. Are you just going in every single thread and saying Halladay isn't the difference? Don't mean to be rude, but I've been on this site 10 minutes - and I've seen the same type of post from you in the first 3 threads I've visited. What's the big difference between this team and last years team? Starting pitching - It's very possible that an elite pitcher would put this team over the top. Halladay (or Lee) not only gives the team a very good chance of winning, but he gives the bullpen a break and thus improves the chances every other game. This team has given up 302 runs in their 47 losses - That is nearly 6.5 runs per game, on the flip side they have given up 156 runs in their 48 wins (3.25 runs a game - nearly half of the runs given up compared to when games are lost) Pitching is the problem and 1 elite starting pitcher could make that much of a difference.
  3. Escobar may not have the bat of a Hanley Ramirez - but few possess the defensive skills he does at SS. There is more depth at 3b, if one is getting dealt - I would rather it be Gamel. Or just trade Hardy and promote Escobar.......
  4. I think everyone forgets that if they do get a stud pitcher - it improves their chances of winning every night. A stud pitcher that you can count on to go for 7 innings every five days gives your bullpen a huge break and thus improves your chances in every other game.
  5. Wow - odd considering he hit .300+ in his career prior to this against lefties
  6. Why do people rip the player for the GM's mistake of overpaying. I mean, if your mediocre at your job and someone comes in and offers to overpay you......... I'm guessing you'll accept.
  7. He is out of the boot, but they are still saying there is a chance he may not pitch again this season.
  8. From May 22 to June 21st Gamel had played in 27 games - in 19 of those he had 3 or more plate appearances. 18 hits in 75 at bats, 28 k's, 7 walks and 1 HR. Sure that isn't every day, but that is playing quite a bit and he simply did not perform. I just don't buy into the theory that if he got an extra 25 AB's during that month long stretch, that he would have hit better. Macha gave him his shot, he put up very poor numbers...... as I said before, I like Gamel as much as the next guy and have very high hopes for him - but it just wasn't working.
  9. Isn't it possible the Macha didn't play Gamel because he didn't perform, and it has nothing to do with his age? I like Gamel as much as the next brewer fan - but he was striking out at an alarming rate. I heard a lot of cries from brewer fans last week when he homered "he should be playing everyday" and "what is Macha thinking" - meanwhile, he came up to the plate 2 other times that night with the bases loaded and he struck out both times. He's a top prospect - but he has to work on hitting inside pitches and I really don't think it's in the best interest of the brewers to throw him out there everyday and just hope he works it out....... especially not when your trying to make the playoffs.
  10. http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/9827802
  11. He hit .316 on the road last season....... and he is 2nd among NL 2b in OBP. Furthermore, if you want to use the park argument, take a look at his numbers in Mil. - he's got a career avg of .324 at Miller with a .397 OBP to go along with it. I think this trade does make a difference - not the type of difference that is going to propel the team into the playoffs, but it improves the ball club.
  12. I'm surprised so many are against this trade.......... I love Gamel's potential as much as the next guy, his glove really surprised me while he was up, but his bat disappointed. I know some will say that if he got regular time it would improve........ well, what if it didn't? Can we afford to ride that out while trying to make the playoffs? As pointed out in the article above, he had been striking out at an alarming rate (46k's in 113 ab's). Some people are acting as if he was producing at a high level and Macha kept him on the bunch - I realize it's a small sample size and that he has a great track record in the minors, but he wasn't producing. Lopez gives the crew a legit leadoff hitter - I think I read he is second in OBP among 2b....... I just don't get how people can be upset with that, if nothing else, it improves the bench and as we all know, improvement was needed there.
  13. Wowza, was just looking at Wells numbers this year.... didn't realize how much his production has dropped off, I'm sure most already have but ignore my previous post. As long as the package doesn't involve both Escobar and Gamel - I'd be a happy camper, I really hope they hang onto Escobar though.
  14. I'd rather deal Hardy than Escobar...... on a sidenote, I just looked at Wells contract and I can't believe how much money they threw at him. Have to wonder if the Brewers would be willing to take Wells if the Jays would eat a portion of his salary...... Hart/Hardy/Lawrie for Halladay/Wells (Blue Jays pickup 30% of Wells salary each remaining season) - will wait for someone to destroy that proposal....... just trying to figure how the crew could get Halladay without giving up Gamel or Escobar. Lineup Escobar McGehee/Counsell Braun Fielder Wells Gamel/McGehee/Hall Cameron Kendall Pitcher
  15. Jekyll and hyde pitching staff and a Jekyll and Hyde offense..... makes for some tough games sometimes. At least they made Broxton throw nearly 30 pitches
  16. shoot, not to mention blowing great outings by soup and gallardo within the past 10 days......
  17. wow, that really sucked...... it's been a long week...........
  18. I was thinking about bringing my 3 year old and finding a sitter for out little guy - wife is also working tonight - but we are bringing them both to Sundays brewer game with the rest of our families...... but like you, I can't wait until they are both older and we can hit all the ballgames that we can make it to.
  19. I think those numbers would change just a bit when you go from LaRoche and whoever else the pirates throw out there to Braun and Fielder hitting behind him. Remind me again what Heether has done at the ML level?
  20. Dye is owed quite a bit of money yet this season - close to $6 million - from what I could find, next season is a mutual option for $12 million...... and he has a limited no trade clause.
  21. Casey is a pretty small sample size - I love what I've seen from him, but I'm not exactly expecting him to keep it up all season. You could count on Sanchez for above average production for the entire season (as for Sanchez "maxing out his talent" - not even close, that was 2006 when he hit .344) the guy is a career .300 hitter....... he would be a perfect fit in the 2 hole.
  22. Pirates seem like they are desperate to move just to dump his contract..... $8 mil next season. (if he hits 600 plate appearances) Would be tough to swallow that salary next season and it'd create a logjam at 2b with weeks coming back....... (he has played some 3b and SS in the past) but he'd be a great fit this season.
  23. Ugh..... I try to avoid the knee jerk reactions, but with 3 very solid outings from pitchers in the past week or so all resulting in a loss...... maybe this team does need a hitter more than a pitcher, I know they are streaky with the way the team is built, but they've got to find a way to get some runs across and win those games. On the plus side, great to see Parra bounce back, hopefully he can string together a few good starts.
  24. Staying on topic - Just because one team traded away a guy for marginal prospects, doesn't mean another team or gm will. Plus it is an entirely different trade market. FWIW, prior to 2008 harden had started 20+ games 1 time in his career. He was a HUGE injury risk - Bedard is a pretty big one as well given his recent injury history, but I just don't see Jack Z giving him away for marginal prospects. It's going to take at least one big name prospect. His price is also going to be driven up because a number of teams are looking for pitching (Dodgers, Brewers, Phillies, White Sox, Red Sox, Yankees, etc.).
