  1. Soup had to be pulled so he could get to bed, bath and beyond before they closed - he forgot his good pillow in Milwaukee.
  2. I didn't think the slide was that bad - guys almost ALWAYS slide into 2nd like that, Aybar just didn't get out of the way in time.
  3. Minn will pick up Kubel's option but Adam Dunn, Paul Konerko and Derrek Lee are also free agents after this season - plenty of options out there.
  4. I tried searching for this and the only thing I could find is that he said they've overspent the past 2 seasons and their payroll won't be 70 million and it won't be 60 million - that could also just be posturing for the new stadium. They've got 36 million coming off the books between Pena, Crawford, Burrell and Soriano. That is half of their current payroll - Maybe they don't make a move for Prince and Hart, but I think Prince makes a lot of sense for them as they could just let Pena walk next season then. They've got some guys coming up for arby that should get pretty good raises, but Garza is probably the only one that is going to get a significant raise. So even if they added Prince, and he made $15 million next season, they'd still be dropping $21 million off the books minus the arby raises. They should still be able to keep it under $60. I really don't see money as the issue for them - it's more about whether or not they would be willing to give up the prospects and I still have to think that if they traded for Prince, that would draw some additional fans - even in that market.
  5. Yeah, your right about it being cheaper - really no chance of that happening. They have a ton of money coming off the books next year though - Burrell and Soriano come off, freeing up another $16 million. So I don't really see money being the issue with Prince/Hart, even if they want to reduce payroll next season. It's more a question if they feel they even need them since they have the best record in baseball or if they would want to give up the prospects.
  6. Pena is making $10.125 million this season and Crawford is making an even $10 million as well - both in the final year of their contracts. Crawford is almost guaranteed to leave in FA and will be replaced by Jennings. That is over $20 million off the books next season and you have to figure that Hart and Prince won't cost much more than that (chance they could end up being cheaper). I could see the Rays making a "CC" like trade for Prince - you have to figure that even in Tampa, it would draw some more people to the ball park. Jennings is probably untouchable, but Hellickson and a few of their other top prospects would be ideal. The only real hit financially for the Rays would be this season with paying the pro-rated amounts due to Hart/Fielder - it's actually a pretty darn good fit and Pena has been on fire lately, but they could DH prince or pena on any given night. (and even with Pena's tear lately, he is still only hitting .196)
  7. What about moving Hart to 1b? Didn't he play some there in the minors?
  8. No thanks to Cain - If Prince is to be dealt, he should bring back affordable talent. What about the Angels? They lost Morales for the year and are still in the thick of things over there..... Edit: Just saw the Angels have already been discussed in this thread.
  9. Probably not, they were willing to let Escobar score - Inglett would not have been able to get into 3rd, especially running at less than 100%
  10. Last season when Gallardo homered and the Brewers won 1-0 against the Pirates comes to mind - I don't think the pitcher accounting for the only run has happened too many times.
  11. Lot of money coming off the books next season with Hall/Suppan/Riske - especially if they trade Fielder. Affording Hart wouldn't be a problem. I guess I just don't see a good return for Hart coming based on 1 good month - If he does keep it up all season, it only increases his trade value in the offseason. If the right offer came along, I'd be all for it - but I just don't see them getting good value for Hart right now..... plus I fear he'll turn into a Jason Werth type player if he gets traded. Odds are, Prince is gone this offseason, and that production is going to need to be replaced and Hart has really stepped his game up since he started playing everyday this year. He's really never had a stretch like this in his career which makes me think he has finally turned a corner, he's working the count and has finally learned how to lay off the slider - which to me, shows he has finally matured as a hitter. If he can keep this up, it'll be a lot easier to replace Prince's production next season.
  12. I'd rather keep Hart if Prince is going to be traded - his trade value is clearly better than it was a month ago, but other gm's are going to point out that he's been hot for one month and wasn't very good for nearly 2 seasons. I don't think the return would be very good and, call me crazy, but I think Hart may have finally turned a corner.
  13. Wow - I hadn't looked at his numbers when he started at 3b vs when he didn't........... was pretty surprised (and impressed) to say the least. That said, it's a stretch to try and put those in the same league as Howard - Gamel had a higher K% (42.2) than anyone else in the league last season that had 100 PA or more. In fact, it's been a problem for him since he's gone above AA ball - even in 320 PA's at AAA in 2009 he still had a K% of 32.6%. (6th worst in the PCL/200 or more PA) Don't get me wrong, I still have high hopes for Gamel - Love his ability to hit lefties and his OBP - but I think he has to get that K rate down to be an elite hitter......... Hopefully that will come with playing everyday and maturing. Unfortunately, unless Prince is dealt or McGehee falls off a cliff, I don't see him getting a shot anytime soon.
  14. Gamel struck out way too much when he was up last year - 54 k's in 128 AB's is as bad as it gets. Whether or not that is a result of being 'jerked around' by the organization is debatable. FWIW I think that's a bit overblown by some on here - he certainly didn't get enough AB's while he was up last year, but some make it seem like he sat for months at a time.... bottom line is, he put up a sub .250 avg and struck out at an alarming rate, he didn't deserve more AB's and probably should have been sent back to the minors after the interleague games if he wasn't going to play everyday.
  15. Fair enough, but at the end of the day - he only had one start where he gave up more than 3 runs this season. (granted, in two of those starts he didn't make it out of the 6th inning) Not bad for a back end of the rotation guy in my book.
  16. Based on what? He's had 1 bad start this season........ well, 2 now but the ump is beyond terrible. Bush cannot win with his 85 mph fastball. Yet, outside this start, he has had 1 bad start all season.....
  17. Based on what? He's had 1 bad start this season........ well, 2 now but the ump is beyond terrible.
  18. 3rd straight multi-hit game and a HR in all 3 games - Is Hart finally turning it around?
  19. Nice to see Casey come through in the clutch. On another note, ESPN crew calling the game....... wow, I suddenly have a new found appreciation for BA and Rock.
  20. Yes. Doing it now could save them a ton of money if they wait until after the season. Any guesses on what it would cost? 4 yrs/$20-22 million or am I underestimating?
