  1. Someone should put together a Wisconsin MVP shirt with Yeli, Giannis (hopefully), and Rodgers on it. What a special time in Wisconsin sports.
  2. Except for the Cubs. They are who we thought they were
  3. Chris Davis is really a crazy story. He's in year four of a seven year $161 million contact, 33 years old. Hit .168 last year and currently in a 0-46 streak going back to last year. 0-16 with 11 strikeouts this year. Mercilessly booed. How long can this go on!? It's not like he's going to turn it around at this point
  4. I think pressure is the reason he has failed to hit since last April... When he went on his big streak last year, there was no pressure. as the season went along, the pressure started to mount because he figured out that we are actually playing for a play-off spot. He hasn't hit since. This year, we are expected to make some noise, he has done nothing...Pressure is what might be doing him in. imo. Totally agree. He's a total head case who gets more and more into his own head as things get worse.
  5. I'm sure someone has mentioned it but I'm worried about a possible consequence of the Cubs losing is they back up the Brinks truck and sign Kimbrel or Kuechel, throw caution and luxury tax to the wind. They gotta be feeling the pressure.
  6. ALLLL the eyerolling over the reporting on the two sides "falling in love" with each other.
  7. Boy are injuries frustrating. Humans have been playing this game for over a 100 years. Sometimes seems like we should have figured out these wear and tear injuries a lonnnng time ago. Jeffress and Knebel injuries - why are they used in such a manner that leads to fatigue and weakness and dead arm, etc? Anyway, who am I to comment just frustrated.
  8. You serious bro? Doubt he's serious, but it is annoying.
  9. They lost their 3rd rounder with the Grandal signing. Would lose their 4th rounder if they were to sign Kimbrel or Keuchel. Thanks
  10. May have missed it in this thread but isn't there a comp pick attached if we sign him? Aren't we already giving one up somewhere? Grandal perhaps? How does that work? THanks.
  11. That's good to hear. Other than facing righties at Miller Park, I don't have a lot of faith in him.
  12. This would obviously fix things. And I think this should be done. But then there needs to be some concessions to small market teams like even more revenue sharing or a hard salary cap. If small market can't count on young controllable players teams like the Brewers are screwed.
  13. In limited innings has decent numbers against LHBs. 2016 17 innings, .71 WHIP, .177 BA against, 2.65 ERA 2017 29 innings, .58 WHIP, .147 BA against, 2.78 ERA 2018 24 innings, 1.00 WHIP, .244 BA against, 3.38 ERA Not good numbers against RHB
  14. I see them going after and likely getting one. Probably Harper. They can afford to go in to the $250 to $270 million payroll range for a few years, they get a new tv deal or their own network in the next year. They also lose a ton of money in the next two years with Zobrist, Hamels, Morrow, Lester, Chatwood, and Quintana all coming off their books. Those guys obviously need to be replaced and they have guys getting arbitration raises but if they go get Harper this year they can still keep a payroll in the low to mid 200 range. They won’t be needing to go in to the 300 range to keep a decent team around if they can’t or won’t go that high. Also on the post above, where do you see be $22.5 LT hit? Everything I’ve seen is either $14 or $20 depending on if that $6 million buyout was factored in or not in his previous contract years. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2018/11/cubs-exercise-cole-hamels-option-trade-drew-smyly-rangers.html "Smyly’s contract came with a $5MM luxury tax hit, whereas Hamels’ deal after the option is exercised effectively becomes a seven-year, $158MM contract and would carry a $22.5MM luxury hit."
  15. Per mlbtraderumors, it is $20 million. Cubs used leverage of buyout to get rangers to take on almost equivalent of Smylys salary of $7mil. " In essence, then, the reportedly forthcoming trade is a somewhat creative means of the Cubs retaining Hamels while still receiving the benefit of the same level of financial compensation from the Texas organization — if not a bit more. The Rangers will absorb either all of Smyly’s $7MM salary or, speculatively speaking, could agree to pay $6MM of that sum with the Cubs eating $1MM in cost in order to keep the dollars at the same level they’d have been had Texas merely paid the buyout." Also, it is a $22.5 mill cap hit for the Cubs and they're going to over $200 mill and possibly close to luxury tax threshold of $206. Good, burn through money for crap players. Cubs have tons of money but it gets a bit more painful in luxury tax.
  16. Gonna have to mine for gold like they did for DJ.
  17. What??? Per Rosenthal. Someone talk me off the figurative ledge. Has to either be money or dysfunction. And both are bad options. If it's money we should've paid him. Dysfunction...uh oh.
