  1. Ned's got the perfect lineup to get us shutout today! Not only that, but watch Bush go seven strong innings!
  2. I was hoping Bill would say the answer to "What's the biggest advantage to hitting the pitcher eighth" that "well, when you have a catcher that hits like me, your pitcher gives you a better chance of getting on base, so you want your better hitters up a notch in the order". Alas, he did not speak these words...
  3. I like the signing I guess. I'm don't like Ash's comments though to paraphrase "we're signing him because we need depth in lieu of Cappy's injury and because we released Vargas". Why release Vargas? To save three million? Then why did we give him two million or so just to come to spring training? It's not that I don't like the move. It's that Vargas should be in McClung's spot right now anyway and/or Vargas should not have been given the money he was given to come to spring training (and pitch pretty well I might add).
  4. Didn't Cappy get hurt BEFORE we released Vargas? I would much rather have Vargas than Weaver (or Vargas than McClung). Rant complete...
  5. http://www.rotoworld.com (search Carlos Villineueva). Memo to Ned Yost: your owner and GM spent a bunch of money to bring in four new relievers in the offseason and there's currently five guys in the Milwaukee pen capable of going multiple innings. So why do the non-Ben Sheets starting pitchers keep getting chances to blow games? Villanueva was fine through six today, so maybe he deserved a chance to start the seventh. However, it shouldn't have taken five straight hits -- the second a homer -- to finally get him replaced. Yost has done nice things with the lineup this year, and it's encouraging that he's realized Derrick Turnbow shouldn't be the No. 2 man in the pen. Still, he's failing miserably at knowing when to make that first pitching change.
  6. Not sure what year, but I am going to say Lorretta. Going back further, I think Brian Harper technically was our emergency catcher when he was here, and he was used sparingly there. But I realize he likely doesn't fit the description of an emergency catcher, even at his age and lack of ability behind the plate when he was here.
  7. Well, I guess I always want us to win. But I really hope Gallardo replaces Bush in the rotation, as I know ninety percent of you do.
  8. It's ok if Bush loses tomorrow. Then it SHOULD be obvious that Gallardo replaces Bush in the rotation and not CV or Manny.
  9. Oops, my post was meant to be a question asking if I can get it on DISH anywhere. I figured "no".
  10. I figure zero percent chance here, but anyway its on DISH in madison without the baseball package on some shady channel?
  11. Not sure what type of names we could get. I am guessing the Padres and Rangers might still be interested in Gwynn though. Tell you what, I'd take the Garrison/Thatcher/Inman deal back from them for Gwynn and McClung...
  12. Well we lose Cameron (replace him from within) at 5M we lose Gagne (replace him from within) at 10M we lose Counsell (replace him from within) at 3 M We won't really need any other free agents and will have pieces we can trade to upgrade any deficient positions. I think we can make Sheets a strong offer and expect we will.
  13. Gwynn is too old to be playing every game for one month. No reason to go with the hot hand if he's not a switch hitter...
  14. Come on Soopy. Just give us five innings of one run ball. Then, Ned, let's go with anyone but McClung and I bet we can win this one.
  15. Not a big fan of Kapler playing for Gwynn today. I don't think he deserves pt this early.
  16. Suppan is reliable only in the fact that you can rely on him for no more than six innings tops and probably at least five runs scored for the other team before he's done. Money talks, or Suppan would not be in the rotation.
  17. I am sure he'll get starter playing time. He is somewhat versatile. I also think Doug and his brass probably brought up the Closser situation and told him "if you have a better shot elsewhere, we'll do the same thing for you."
  18. I have the basic 100 plan right now (and am ticked NFL Network and Big Ten Network have been removed from this package in the past month but that's besides the point). Can someone tell me which package or what my cheapest avenue will be to get the Brew Crew? I am assuming I need FSN North (it looks like Dish Network does not have FSN Wisconsin)?
  19. Not sure this deserves it's own thread, but I think it might. Is it just me, or does "holding out for better value" seem to often times lead to players in a numbers crunch simply getting released for nothing. I just think teams are more willing to go with whomever they have in spring training for a while rather than trade for a guy out of desperation at the end of the spring. Obviously talking Vargas for this one. You can't tell me it was wiser to hold onto him until now than it would have been to trade him at the winter meetings. That is when we should have dealt a starting pitcher. Now, Cappy and Vargas are essentially done with us and we got nothing for them. I hate "selling low", but given some trends, holding on to guys until springs final days hardly seems like it's paying off for us the past couple of years.
  20. Out of respect for Vargas, the crew won't send him to AAA. Also, with McClung making it, Rotoworld assures that either CV or MP will be starting off in the minors.
  21. Looks like we could get Nelson Cruz back for AAA depth too. Just kidding. Seriously, Laird would be a better backup catcher for us. Too bad they want him to begin the year as their starter.
  22. Boy, we sure will be losing a lot of money. Granted, some of it will cost to replace if we don't resign guys. But I see Jenkins/Mench saving us 11 million to go with Gabe Gross next year, for which we might get the same production. If I am Doug, I go with Gabe for half a year and see how he does. Then, Cordero and Linebrink, which we all know must be replaced if not resigned, but that's technically more money we'd save as of now. Damian Miller and Graffy combined save us about six million if we can replace them more cheaply. I am sure Doug has a plan, and I can't wait to see what it is.
  23. I think I heard that on ESPN, with an additional statement made about him maybe getting traded this month now. I am wondering who else cleared waivers that might be of interest to us?
  24. Can you blame Ned for not sticking with Wise vs. Dunn, thus enabling Rickie to pinch hit for Wise and enabling Shouse to pitch the entire 13th?
