  1. I see he's throwing for Hunstville tonight and not doing well not only tonight but all year so far. Still, he's had a very tough few years. Is the arm still there and he just needs time? The fact he's as high as AA gets me cautiously optimistic we may yet have something in him if his current struggles are more a fact of being out of pitching for so long and if the arm is still good.
  2. I'd wait til September on him if it means we'd control him for an extra year. You guys know more about arby than i do. It's my hope he can stick at 3b and even be our guy there next year (especially if we lose CC and Ben). I have a hard time thinking Ned is going to use him enough to make it worth while even if he's brought up in August.
  3. Hardy's value might be really high after this year. As much as I am thrilled by how he's playing and the numbers he might end the year with, the time in this coming off-season will be perfect to "sell high". It's great when you can get maximum value for a player. After the LaPorta trade, I think Prince stays at least for another year (as well as he should since we might be "selling low" if we trade him). Hardy plus a little something extra could well get us that borderline #1/#2 pitcher we'll need to pair with Yo and Parra and thus keep us in the thick of the playoff mix. The fact Escobar is in waiting and more than capable means we need to dangle JJ if he can be the big piece of a deal to get us that #1/#2.
  4. I think we have a better closer and maybe a top ten closer in baseball now in Torres. I think an above average 8th inning guy is all we need and Gagne might come around and be that anyway.
  5. Scrubs get Harden next year too by doing the obvious and picking up his nine million dollar option for 2009, correct?
  6. My dish network is out dawgoneit. I am afraid I'll be switching back to cable within a year when my contract runs up and the badger basketball and NFL seasons are complete.
  7. I don't think Jackson is a throw in. I am not real high on him, but he's a lefty that has some decent stuff and is still fairly young. Those guys aren't throw ins, but I get your drift.
  8. If Green goes, I think it just reinforces that Gamel stays at 3b and becomes our 3b of the future. I suppose Lawrie is an option at third as well if Lucroy or Salome become top ten catchers at the major league level. If Prince is dealt to replenish our starting pitching in the off-season, I have no problem (maybe) giving Nelson a shot at first. I think he can put up numbers similar to what I expect LaPorta to put up in the majors.
  9. Which prospect is more likely to be an everyday, productive MLB first baseman? Which would have greater trade value?
  10. People so willing to give up LaPorta for CC need to realize there are 25-35 home runs and a decent average from him coming next season as a replacement for Prince, when Prince is dealt for pitching help/prospects. Without LaPorta, you are looking at someone without at least average productivity at first next season.
  11. What are their long term plans for Victor Martinez? Is he going to stay at catcher for more than another year or is he looking at either departing Cleveland or moving to 1B or DH?
  12. My bad. Salome is the obvious one I'd trade of the five. Brantley would be next and I would not deal the other three.
  13. Why have the last few posts talking about LaPorta being sent out when Gammons just listed five AA studs that are not available?
  14. Hardy sure is having a game today. Hypothetically, would Hardy straight up be the best offer for a rental even of the stature of Sabathia? I am assuming a prospect swap might be added from both sides...
  15. Sign me up for our best offer being Salome, Gillepsie, and Villenueva or Periard. They get a top five prospect, an OF prospect likely good enough to be a starter or at least a good fourth, and a pitcher that's a likely starter for them in two years. That should be enough, and these are guys we can afford to ship out given our depth at these positions.
  16. I like Doug's thought process and think we are deep enough to trade for instance Brad Nelson, Vinny Rottino, Cole Gillespie, David Welch, Luis Pena, and Taylor Green for Greinke. Would they do it?
  17. Thanks for the props Brian! Seriously though, I still believe it was the wrong move. I guess enough has been said. Let's hope nobody on our staff goes down because nobody in AAA is pitching well enough as a starter to help.
  18. Isn't it somewhat rare to trade a top two prospect even straight up for a rental like Sabathia? It seems rather foolish to me too, at least as we sit here on 6/24.
  19. Nice, succinct interview with Jake "Eggs" Odorizzi. I think that's one we can have stick...
  20. Yeah. maybe we could trade them Turnbow or DeFelice or Naverson or something to get it done.
  21. I was just thinking of Ned's lineup from opening day. This is assuming Cameron is eligible from day one. If he is, here's his lineup... Weeks Cameron Fielder Braun Hall Hart Hardy Sheets Kendall Today, only Weeks is in the spot Yost had him on opening day. And some, not me, disagree with him being there. But isn't it sad that Yost 1) thought of Cameron as a really good #2 2) thought Fielder would be his best #3 and Braun his best #4 3) thought Hall and not Hart should protect his cleanup batter 4) went with the idiotic pitcher hitting eighth
  22. We lost Calix Crabbe and many fans were upset, as San Diego used him at numerous positions that the Brewer Brass did not feel he could play. We did get him back, luckily, but...
  23. I count about 15 AA guys that are going to need to be on there. We'll have about 17 from our big league squad. If I am anywhere near correct, that leaves eight spots for any current AAA guys and any high A ball guys that a team could conceivably store on their big league roster because of a really high ceiling. How are we going to handle this before the rule five draft?
  24. Kiki - there are too many factors for why this won't happen 1) agents' rakes for percentage of the contracts they take differ 2) positional values, for instance pitching, differs greatly 3) number of arby years and free agency years bought out 4) worthiness of anyone but Fielder/Hart/Sheets to get anything close to a Braun contract at this time 5) i am sure i am missing more, maybe even some obvious ones In theory, it'd be a great idea though and I am sure the Braun contract will be a barometer for Doug and Co. dishing out contract offers for the other young studs in the future.
