  1. Interesting. So you think it is related to current training/workout routines and isn't just a semantics thing. I was thinking maybe they just called it a "side injury" back in the 70's/80's and players just played throught it, toughed it out and maybe just had down years statistically as a result. But what you are saying is that this is something new
  2. 1) Why isn't the player standing in the on deck circle hit with a foul ball much more often? I mean, seriously, is there some sort of physics related reason why a foul ball wouldn't be hit in that direction? 2) Furthermore, why do we never see (or almost never, I can't remember it ever happening) a ballplayer foul off a ball into their own face? Is that physically impossible or something? 3) Why are we seeing so many more "Oblique" injuries than in decades past? Did they just call it something else back then? "Side sprains". As a kid and baseball fanatic in the 1970's I don't recall anyone ever having an "Oblique Injury". Is this the result of more weight training in modern times? i.e. bigger muscles equals more chances of spraining something...
  3. Hoping to see Morgan & Kottaras starting tonight
  4. Estrada certainly deserves another start and a "we'll see how it goes". Putting him in the rotation and giving Marcum, Gallardo and the rest days off here and there could potentially keep them fresher in August & September when we really need them Remember Yo had to be shut down late last year, Marcum had Tommy John surgery a few years ago. A baseball season is a marathon, we need our horses fresh down the stretch
  5. there is absolutely no way to know the severity of various injuries and to speculate on that and then jump to conclusions seems foolhardy. We all want him back ASAP
  6. Nyjer Morgan!!!! over/under on a regular starting job = it has already begun
  7. Red Sox could go 0-162 and I wouldn't shed a tear! I wish this game was on TV here in Wisconsin but I'm enjoying listening to the radio broadcast
  8. great to see Morgan starting again today. I'm liking the way Roenicke is adjusting the lineup as the season goes on
  9. we beat a very good team using a minor league pitcher, a AAAA catcher, a RF who should be retired and Carlos Gomez in CF. Gotta love it and thank you for intentionally walking Nieves! that was almost as hilarious as Estrada starting to head to the plate without a bat!
  10. Gomez is due for a hit or two, I think he'll do a few good things in this game. I'm OK with this lineup. Morgan really shouldn't start vs Lefties very often, his splits show he struggle vs lefties. Nieves, yeah, agreed, he's brutal at the plate but at least he'll give us good defense. Optimistic about Almonte Hart & Lucroy being out really make this a tough lineup vs left-handers
  11. well, alot of that was Derek Lowe, who also pitched great, just not as great as Yo. We won a pitcher's duel. How often did that happen last year? With Greinke coming next month and as long as Marcum pitches like he's capable of, we have the potential to win a lot of pitchers duels this year. This year's Crew is capable of winning games when we only score 2 to 4 runs, last year's Crew rarely did that
  12. Love seeing that Morgan went 3 for 4 with a triple to push the issue
  13. Cody Hawn is a player I'll be keeping an eye on this year. The kid had a .948 OPS at Helena. 13 HR's in only 65 games and posted a .407 OBP... I want to see if he's just another guy or our 1B of the future
  14. I also would like to buy a 2011 magnet schedule... thank you
  15. Take the total amount of time it took Macha to give up on Gomez in 2010, divide that in half and subtract 5 games, and thats when we can start penciling in Nyjer in the every day lineup, with Gomez filling in vs lefties on occasion Maybe we could trade Gomez for JJ Hardy! What? Oh....
  16. Will we better when Fielder leaves? Hopefully It depends on so many factors, and alot of them depend on the very inconsistent Doug Melvin... Melvin might make a great trade, he might make a horrible trade, he might take that $25 million a year and sign 2 Jeff Suppan/Doug Davis types and a Mark Kotsay type and a partridge in a pear tree (OK I digress) If Mat Gamel can stay healthy and hit well (he'd certainly be a huge defensive upgrade, one would think) and Prince's money is spent wisely, then yeah maybe we could be better
  17. Beachy is exactly the type of pitcher we should go after in a trade. The Braves have him for what? 5-6 years? Narveson sure looked sharp today, it was good to see that
  18. The Brewers seem to regularily make an inexperienced pitcher look great, but Beachy is a very legit young pitcher. He had a 1.73 ERA and a 1.014 WHIP in 35 games in the minors in 2010 Yes I would have traded Cain for Beachy, absolutely. And I still would have gone after Greinke. Hard to believe that not being able to include Cain in the Greinke deal would be a deal-breaker, but maybe
  19. I like those lineups except I would start Counsell at SS once or twice a week vs righ-handers, vs Left-Handers I would bat the pitcher 8th and Gomez 9th and I would keep Weeks leading off. Morgan is an excellent bunter and would be ideal in many ways batting 2nd
  20. Weeks should stay in the leadoff spot, Morgan should bat 2nd, and by all means Kottaras should be in there vs Lowe as a left-handed bat. Counsell should also start tommorow at SS. Derek Lowe pitching to Wil Nieves would be beyond ugly
  21. I'm all for Morgan getting most of the starts, but he really should sit against lefties. Look at his splits, he's really an ideal guy to platoon with Gomez
  22. the entire planet knows that a MLB pitcher will try to get Gomez to chase a high fastball with a 2 strike count, so why doesn't Carlos know this?
  23. wow. just... wow I will be intrigued to see what changes are made tommorow. Nieves has no business starting anymore. Gomez really should be given a day off with Morgan starting in his place
