  1. The only big game experience Greinke had, prior to this season, was All-Star game experiences. I'm not sure of his exact stats in All-Star games, but I do recall him striking out the side in one game, I believe it was 2009. Very small sample The guy has absolutely filthy stuff. He'll come around
  2. Hopefully they will keep Gamel up in MLB. That will improve the bench If Gamel is starting at 3B with Casey on the bench, that improves the bench. Same thing if Gamel is occasionally starting in RF for Hart.
  3. Greinke has had very nasty stuff at times during this season and has had a few great games. There is plenty of reason for me to believe that he will be a very valuable asset to the Brewers in the 2nd half and will finish the season with an ERA under 3.60
  4. Weeks, Fielder, Braun. Back in the days when they were all minor league prospects, this is part of what we all hoped for, wished for dreamed about, and it helped us get through some brutal seasons as we pondered a better Brewers future. Great to see 2 of the 3 signed long-term. Great to see Weeks healthy and living up to his potential. Now I'm hoping the Brewers can translate that great nucleus with some playoff appearances and wins....
  5. Gamel did play 5 games in the outfield in 2010 for Nashville. Not exactly a ton of experience but I think he could handle it
  6. Boggs is nothing special. Would like to see Gamel start every game that Braun is out, either at 3B or LF. As challenging as it might be for Gamel to play LF with very little experience, he's not going to be much worse than Braun is out there and he has a better arm
  7. For how long? That'd be pretty brutal, long term. They really should get .750+ OPS out of 3rd base if they are legit playoff contenders, especially with such an awful hitter at SS as well as CF vs LHP
  8. I was going to add regarding Eric Farris. His OPS is only .701 in AAA ball. I'm not sure that he could be an upgrade over Wilson offensively, and I seriously doubt he'd be better than Wilson defensively (Farris has 4 errors in 15 games at SS in AAA). Wilson has a .769 OPS in almost 2000 plate appearances in his careeer at AAA
  9. Not convinced with Green, though it wouldn't take much to improve on Casey's output. Hopefully it won't take Casey long to figure it out. Also not convinced as to how effective Gamel would be as a PH/spot starter. Small sample size but so far in MLB Gamel has not been effective in that role. I think he's a guy who needs regular starts. For that reason I would put Gamel at 3B if you are going to demote Casey for awhile, and roll the dice on Gamel's defense. Kotsay can and should be replaced by any number of AAA outfielders including Boggs or Katin. Kotsay should have been DFA'ed a long time ago. The fact that he has started in CF is downright scary I remain convinced that the biggest problem with the Brewers is at SS. Trading for a SS and having Betancourt on the bench and starting Gamel at 3B with Casey on the bench improves not only the starting lineup but also improves the bench, as well
  10. All Hardy is doing is hitting .299 with an .886 OPS right now (wow hindsight is 20/20 but Gomez for Hardy = to quote Ken Harrelson "you gotta be bleeping me")... the Orioles would ask for one helluva lot to get him, I would think, especially if there is any chance of them extending him
  11. whoo man, you know things are going bad for Casey when Betancourt gets the start ahead of him
  12. Just a guess, but maybe Green OPS'ing only .687 in AA ball in 2009 hurt his perception among the Brewers front office. Maybe they stopped looking at him as a legit MLB prospect. He's only 24 now, and he's hitting over .300 with an OPS over .900 in AAA. You would think he'd be brought up at some point. Its too bad he can't play SS (it appears he's played 3B, 2B & 1B in the minors). Green looks like an upgrade over Kotsay as a LHB off the bench, too
  13. Casey as a utility player, backup 2B/3B would have value on a playoff team. Casey starting on a playoff team is stretching it. The thing is, they have a bigger problem needing to upgrade SS and are likely hoping that Casey can return to the .800+ OPS guy he's been the last few years
  14. Unfortunately that might not be enough in a playoff race. They really need to trade for a SS upgrade if possible
  15. It'd be great if the 2008 Cameron was available, but the 2011 Cameron is hitting way worse than Gomez. Strange as it might seem, Kotsay is better than the 2011 Cameron...
  16. Exactly. One of Roenicke's biggest weaknesses so far seems to be putting so much weight on small samples. Keeping Reed on the team over Boggs based on spring training being just one example
  17. In order to get Trout, the Brewers would likely have to throw in Marcum with Fielder. Seriously. And that is not gonna happen. Now if the Angels could negotiate an extension with Fielder before the trade, then maybe they would trade Trout for Fielder straight up. Maybe That said, the possibility of Fielder being traded to the Angels is a good one, even if we don't get Trout. I'm not at all convinced the Brewers will be in it at the trade deadline and they may indeed be dealing Fielder in mid-July
  18. Bada-Bingo. Exactly Yuni B is certainly capable of making occasional great plays. The range isn't there nor is any consistency, and with that OBP he really should be Gold Glove caliber
  19. I'm concerned that Hart is not completely healthy and that may be the real reason why Kotsay is starting 2 days in a row
  20. I am a very big Carlos Gomez fan but I can still be realistic and recognize that he has a ways to go before he will be a good MLB hitter. I believe in his potential as an all-around player and I do think he's the best defensive CF in baseball
  21. Yeah, there would be no valid excuse for starting Kotsay in CF, beyond just pure cluelessness ... Boggs might not be the greatest defensive CF but he is certainly a much more viable option than Mark Kotsay. I think Craig Counsell could actually play CF better than Kotsay
  22. Hart not only not batting 2nd, but batting 7th? Oh well. at any rate: Go Brewers! Beat the Classies!!!
  23. K Rod in a Brewers uniform would be fun to see. I'm not convinced that the Brewers will be in it at the trade deadline. We could very well be sellers not buyers
  24. Radical Lineup shift to "break things up a bit" Counsell Hart Braun Fielder Weeks McGehee Lucroy Pitcher Gomez
  25. Probably time to start shuffling the lineup quite a bit. Maybe start Counsell at SS more regularly vs the tougher right-handers, obviously put Hart in the 2 hole, maybe even consider droping Weeks out of the lead-off spot
