  1. I'm not thrilled with Macha sitting Gamel again, but if Hall is taking up a spot of the roster he needs to start occasionally
  2. I figure we need all the advantages we can get for this current pitching staff. Granted the other teams' pitchers has the same advantage, but we have a few great hitters and several good hitters, its our pitching staff that can use any help it can get...
  3. That's too bad. I feel for the kid, he's young and is making some real dumb mistakes. There's a few players on the Brewers who are certainly playing like they are smoking too much weed, even though they haven't been caught...
  4. I'm curious as to how high of a ceiling you think Hart has? Just how good can Hart be? (Potentially)
  5. Yes, to be a true pennant contender the Brewers could definitely use another hitter who strikes fear in the competition. Jermaine Dye or Adam Dunn would make the Brewers a better team. That said, if we had a lot more pitching, we have enough hitting to contend. But I don't see us picking up another truely great pitcher let alone 2 more, this season. I keep thinking that Hardy will return to career average hitting, which means he'll go on a tear for a month or so coming up where he hits .355 with a bunch of HR's. Anytime you are ready JJ would be fine with me...
  6. What happened to Francouer? He had 103 RBI's at the age of 22, and in '07 at the age of 23 he had 105 RBI's and a .782 OPS (granted not a great OPS but certainly "major league capable") By the way, I agree Hart is superior to Francouer. He certainly has much better stats.
  7. I like the idea of Gamel hitting in front of Braun, he should see alot of good pitches to hit tonight, provided he doesn't jump at the the first pitch trash he'll inevitably get.
  8. http://www.madison.com/tct/sports/brewers/456039 An article quoting Melvin saying trading Escobar or Gamel is "almost impossible"
  9. yes, they wouldn't just trade Hart for pitching and be done. They'd have to swing another trade for an OF, one would think, otherwise you're looking at a Gerut/Hall platoon or bringing Chris Duffy back I would be thrilled if they could get a great young pitcher for Hart though.
  10. Bill Hall should never bat against right handers. Period
  11. At this rate, this game will last about 4.5 hours, and neither starter will get past the 5th inning...
  12. Counsell/McGehee Hardy Braun Fielder Cameron Gamel Hart Kendall Pitcher I would start Bill Hall vs just about every lefty we face, but not at 3B very often (Gamel would be my every day starting 3B). Hall would be my supersub, seeing action at SS, 2B and CF. Hall would never face a righty though, I'd take him out vs right-handed relief pitching, unless the game is a blow-out. I would rest Cameron more than Macha does. Rivera would catch once every 5th day or so, but not necessarily always when Bush pitches.
  13. I absolutely wouldn't trade Escobar, period. I think he's going to a superstar, barring major injuries, and one of the best fielding SS of the next decade. Plus he brings speed at the top of the lineup that is very much needed. I wouldn't trade Gamel unless some team completely overpays for him. As has been stated, any player, even Braun is tradeable if a team gives up the moon for him. (i.e. we'd take Sabathia and A-Rod for Braun if the Yankees agreed to eat their contracts. Now, obviously that isn't going to happen but is an example of how no player is truely untouchable)
  14. Unless the wheels completely come off and we go into a Ned Yost era type losing streak, we're buyers at the deadline, not sellers. In part because we can contend for at least the wildcard, and in part because we want to keep our strong fanbase built up. We don't want the dismay that selling off talent will bring to our not completely knowledgable "average new Brewer fan" (and there's 10,000 of those types of fans who regularily attend games at Miller Park)
  15. I'm glad that Gamel is staying up, I hope he starts a majority of the games at 3B and hits in the #6 slot. I have no problem with Bill Hall starting versus lefties, but I don't think he should be replacing Gamel vs lefties (perhaps occasionally if Gamel needs a day off), but instead Hall should be a "supersub" hitting versus lefties only and playing 2B/SS/OF
  16. While I remain hopeful that we can pull off a trade for a very good starter (perhaps a 3 team trade, involving Hardy) I have started to resign myself to the fact that such a trade is unlikely. And I recognize that Hardy will bring more in trade value (most likely) in the off-season, not at the deadline. I would expect we will make at least some sort of trade at the deadline though, whether for a #5 starter or more relief pitching or something else. I do think that Bush, Suppan, and Looper will start pitching more towards their career averages. We need a reliable #5 starter, and I'm not convinced Parra can turn things around really quickly... While alot of our core hitters (Hardy, Hall, Cameron) are very streaky, I do think we have a better overall hitting/fielding lineup than our divisional opponents, so I think we can contend for the playoffs with this team as is, provided our star players stay healthy and our #2, 3 and 4 pitchers return to their career averages.
