  1. I would trade McGehee plus Rivas & Rogers and maybe someone else for David Wright. Wright is signed through the 2012 season with a team option for 2013. I'd forget about Reyes and go after Wright (not that I think it is likely, but he'd be a huge upgrade for the Brewers)
  2. Forgive me for the laziness of not searching for this on my own, but when is McGehee arbitration eligible? Because yeah, at $550,000 McGehee is a great value, but once he starts making more $$$, an upgrade in terms of production per dollar spent might be wise
  3. Well I'm glad to see Boggs back. Otherwise we'd be looking at Wil Nieves as our only right hand batter off the bench and that is truly scary
  4. yeah. Then we'll be only 4 games below .500 instead of 5. Once you fall behind too far its tough to climb out of it
  5. Very good point. And far too few of our players work the count and drive up the pitch count
  6. Wow ... so if Boggs doesn't accept his assignment, who is our new backup CF?
  7. I'll chill out on that if I'm beginning to sound like a broken record player. It is not just UZR, it is all defensive stats that I find very arbitrary at best and honestly pretty useless as opposed to common sense scouting. For instance, what is the stat for ground ball that the average Single A player gets to easily that Fielder or Betancourt let through the infield? What is the stat that describes the range of Mark Kotsay in the outfield? etc etc yadda yadda
  8. Yeah, you are probably right. I do think Gamel has the potential to be an "impact" bat, as well as Hart.
  9. I think that does alot more to discredit the validity of UZR & DRS than it does to somehow prop the Brewers defense up to where it could be thought of as "average"
  10. I would regardless of how great Pujols is hitting right now, due to him being one of the greatest hitters of all-time he's gotta be in the discussion because he can get hot at anytime, that is why I said Pujols & Berkman
  11. I don't understand the organizational thinking that has Kotsay over Boggs, but honestly neither of them are anything special, and Kotsay at least in this very small sample has gotten on base much better than expected despite having almost zero power
  12. http://www.jsonline.com/blogs/sports/121332029.html I would hope McClendon is up to stay
  13. I'm pretty big on OBP, and in that regard Betancourt & Gomez are absolutely brutal. I think Nyjer Morgan will be starting most of the time vs RHP so that mitigates the Gomez disaster factor somewhat. Nieves is also brutal as a hitter, but most teams' back-up catchers are pretty awful hitters, so as long as we don't start Nieves often we'll be OK there Our bench is very thin. When Mark Kotsay is your best bench bat that is rough. Currently today unless a move is made, Wil Nieves is our only right-handed bench bat and that is scary McGehee is off to a slow start, and he is certainly not a potential All-Star, but he should be OK. Would like to see him get closer to the .360 OBP of '09 than the .337 OBP of '10... Corey Hart will likely be solid as well
  14. I would think of Nyjer Morgan, if used properly (i.e. only hitting vs rhp) could be somewhat an "impact" player of the future. We have him for several years, and he has alot of potential, again if used properly But anyways, I'd be all for trading away hitting prospects for half a year of Reyes or Furcal, and less inclined to trade pitchers. Definitely would not deal Rivas and likely not Rogers. Maybe Estrada could be part of a deal?
  15. I think it would be awfully tough for this team to win a playoff series with the infield defense that we have. The pitching would have to be lights out and the hitting tremendous to make up for the poor fielding. And in a closely matched playoff series, that is alot to hope for. At the very least, an upgrade to an elite fielding SS is a must at the trade deadline if we are going to make any kind of run.
  16. the Royals are managed by Ned Yost, they'll be strictly a 1st half team
  17. Prince is obviously an elite hitter but I'm looking forward to seeing someone else at 1B for the Brewers, as Prince is just brutal on defense and at least weekly makes boneheaded plays that high school ballplayers wouldn't make
  18. Because Marco Estrada's admittedly small sample career norms are a 6.02 ERA and 1.395 WHIP in 51 innings of Major league experience. He's fared better in the minors (career minor league 3.88 ERA, but a 1.322 career minor league WHIP shows that he has some control issues. Maybe Estrada is a late-bloomer, that'd be great. He's been pretty solid i AAA the last few years
  19. Again, just for the sake of perspective: Paul Molitor's career OBP was .369 with a .817 career OPS. Rickie Weeks has a .356 career OBP with a .788 career OPS (and his OPS was .857 in '09 & .830 last year) I'm not saying Weeks is as great as Molitor was, yet, but when you start to compare the two, Weeks is looking better than one might originally think. He's got the potential to be better than Molitor, in my opinion
  20. It is extremely dangerous to go with such a small sample of a few games in trying to compare Estrada & Narveson. Having a pitcher who has done well in MLB, down in AAA staying stretched out and pitching every 5 games is a great problem to have. If Narveson struggles for another 4 or 5 starts and Estrada continues to pitch lights out that is one thing, but I like the idea of having some strong pitching depth in AAA if needed. Narveson was phenomenal in his first few starts and now is averaging out towards his career norms, which is fine for a #5 pitcher. And let's see how Estrada does tommorow anyways. In terms of Estrada in the MLB bullpen or the AAA starting lineup, again I see real value in keeping him stretched out and ready to start as needed. Unless our bullpen implodes, which is not out of the realm of possibilities
  21. That is inevitable unless Yuniesky gets traded or DFA'd or benched. Good Lord, I hope this thread doesn't get to 1000 posts!
  22. I really don't get Nieves starting in this game. I have no doubt that there is some sort of logical reasoning behind that though. Maybe Lucroy caught the cold/flu that Narveson & Marcum had? At least Gallardo is a good hitting pitcher, to help make up for Nieves' bat
  23. Ennder makes a good point about fluke years and that 2 seasons in a row makes for a more compelling argument. Generally speaking a "small sample" stops being so small with about 250 at-bats, or about half a season
  24. While many of us (including myself) think that Yo has the potential to be an Ace and a sub 3.00 ERA pitcher, it is entirely possible that what he is, is a 3.75- 3.80 ERA #3 pitcher and that is all he'll ever be (which is still a very valuable component to a staff). The last few starts will average out with some stellar starts and he'll be back in that 3.50-4.00 ERA range
