  1. I love reading stories about career minor leaguers like Arlis. Toom bad they didn't touch on his 2 pitching appearances at Huntsville last year. He pitched 1.1 innings and gave up a solo HR ... 6.75 ERA
  2. I feel the same way about Parra, though maybe he hasn't "excelled" there, Parra does seem much better out of the bullpen than as a starter
  3. Peralta's WHIP is scary high, 1.419 in 2010 and that was in AA and A+ ball (with a K/9 of only 6.4)... although at first glance it looks like his problem isn't Walks (3.9 BB/9 which is similar to Gallardo's career MLB numbers) his walk numbers did skyrocket in the 8 games he pitched in AA ball last year... Did his control magically improve over the winter? He gives up alot of hits, too
  4. His defense is a lot worse than the others when someone is on base. Good thing Adan Dunn is in the American League now, because even he could steal a base on George
  5. For some perspective: Carlos Gomez had a better OBP in both '10, and '09 than Betancourt
  6. Personally, I'd rather have Gomez than Cameron. Cameron is just about done. Gomez is a much much better fielder & base-runner at this point and I'd rather take a gamble on Gomez getting his hitting together than hope and wish that Cameron can staty healthy for a season... Cameron as a #4 OF is a good value (not taking into account salary, just in terms of a roster) and Boston values him there
  7. There is certainly reason to be concerned, when pitchers like Amaury Rivas or Cody Scarpetta don't have anywhere close to the stats that Yovani Gallardo put up in the minors, especially as it pertains to WHIP but also ERA. I am all for "going for it" for a couple of years as the Brewers are, but systematically the franchise needs to start developing top-flight pitching and fast or its going to be a long decade after Marcum & Greinke leave
  8. Amaury Rivas. I think he will be a dominant pitcher in the minors this season
  9. Beginning next season, Braun should be moved to 1B in order to minimize injury potential and miximize hitting potential
  10. With Counsell backing up at SS/2B, they really don't need Cruz and his extremely light-weight bat.... Almonte hasn't shown much power at all in the Minors. He did hit .320 in AAA though... I've read that a big part of the problem with Katin is strike-outs, at an almost Russell Branyan pace, without the 3TO amount of walks... I think Boggs is ahead of all of them, but as others have said, Boggs may end up being the 4th OF with Dickerson in Nashville, leaving open a spot... Cruz had better be a gold glove fielder because that bat might not hit .200 (which brings me to Kottaras: why the fascination with a catcher who can't throw and can barely hit .200? "Chicks dig the long ball" does not compute)
  11. In contrast with Katin's .962 OPS & 26 HR's, Almonte had 2 HR's and a .792 OPS in about the same amount of at-bats in AAA ball (he did bat .320, OBP of .377). Why exactly is Almonte getting more props than Katin again?
  12. 26 HR's and a .962 OPS in 336 AB's last season in AAA ... plus a .382 OBP ... the guy rakes against lefties, he'd be great to have in a platoon role in RF if Hart's injury goes longer than expected. For whatever reason the Brewers don't seem high on him though
  13. Almonte with his 3rd HR of the spring today, currently batting over .400 in an extremely small sample
  14. Wasn't there some pitcher who ended up on the Disabled list after sneezing? And then there's Milton Bradley, messing up his knee arguing with an Umpire
  15. definitely a freak injury. I grew up part of the time on the East Coast playing basketball, and the kids from the Bronx would literally throw me around on the court and I never hurt my ribs let alone broke one
  16. Rosenthal seems to be losing credibility by the minute. The Brewers have so much more offensive fire-power than the Mariners could dream of....
  17. No 80's Flashbacks when he goes to the pitching mound has to equal a WAR of +1
  18. I like Boggs as the 25th man way more than Cruz, too
  19. Forgive me as this was probably covered elsewhere but does Boggs have any options left? Can he be sent to Nashville?. I like Boggs better than Kotsay on so many levels...
  20. Brandon Boggs hit .290 in AAA last year with a .876 OPS. I think he has potential. Plus he's switch-hitter
  21. I'm not at all convinced that Cruz is better than Betancourt
  22. Oh, meant to add these links http://www.baseball-reference.com/minors/player.cgi?id=maldon001mar "Maldonado's a great defensive catcher," said Roenicke. "I'd rather see him maybe get more playing time (at Nashville), but I'm not going to say (making the club) is out of the question. When we come down to the end, we'll see where we are." http://www.jsonline.com/sports/brewers/117444808.html
  23. Roenicke said today that Maldonado is the best defensive catcher of the bunch in spring training, and while he'd like to see Maldonado getting regular time in AAA, he wouldn't count Maldonado out of the current race... A quick look at Baseball-Reference shows that Martin hit .253 with a .735 OPS in about 50 games in AAA ball last year... not awe inspiring offensively (and a small sample) but then Kottaras and Nieves are generally below average hitters and Kottaras is truly a liability defensively... I find this an interesting development, Maldonado is only 24... personally I'm rooting for Mike Rivera but wouldn't mind seeing Maldonado as the back-up catcher in MLB until Lucroy gets back...
  24. Not that I think Mat Gamel will be near what Ryan Howard is, but Howard was 25 in his rookie year. Gamel is 25 this year. There is some advantage to not burning service time early on prospects
