  1. I will go so far as to blame Ben Sheets' injury problems directly on Ned Yost overusing him drastically. And despite that, and many other reasons that I was not thrilled with Yost, I would take him in a heartbeat over Ken Macha
  2. Just a guess but I think the reality is that Melvin wanted more for Bush than teams wanted to give up, and Melvin's comments to the media are relative to the off-season in terms of trying to lower Bush's asking price It is completely impossible that Dave Bush would be "flying under the radar" of any MLB GM, let alone all of them
  3. "We're trying to plan. As (general manager) Doug (Melvin) has said, you can't switch (positions) once you get up here (during the season)." - Gord Ash
  4. I like this signing. I complain as much as anyone about Melvin but I do like that he has extended Braun, Gallardo and Hart I also like the possibility of Gamel at 1B, he'd be (likely) a tremendous upgrade over Prince defensively
  5. As a Brewers fan, I'm thrilled to see the Astros get completely fleeced by this trade. As an (extremely) optimistic Brewers fan, I'm not thrilled to see Oswalt and Halladay and Hamels on a Phillies pitching staff that we may need to face in the 2011 playoffs
  6. Prince Fielder ranks second among qualifying major-league first basemen with a 2.959 zone rating, according to the Elias Sports Bureau. He has a .999 fielding percentage. By any stretch of the imagination, Prince Fielder is not an elite defensive player.
  7. Mike Caneron was a pretty good signing.
  8. With ya on all that FVBrewersFan, 'cept I wouldn't trade Braun, his contract is extremely favorable for one of the best outfielders in MLB... Likewise, I doubt I would trade Escobar or Lucroy either, but I hear ya! We need pitching and lots of it
  9. Kottaras batting 6th is strange Big game tonight. Looking forward to it!
  10. Holding runners on and then adjusting to play defense, digging errant throws out of the dirt, making throws to the pitcher covering, and general footwork involved with playing first. You are right it isn't as tough to play as RF and maybe you are correct that Gamel could just be plugged in at 1B at the MLB level without ever having played there before but I would think he'd need to at least spend a little time learning the position. (even just a week or two)
  11. Albert Pujols = Best Power Hitter in Baseball. 1.049 career OPS ... 388 HR's in 9.5 seasons
  12. Saunders' stats are not comparable to Dave Bush. His WHIP is way higher than Bush's, for instance. Saunders is much closer to Manny Parra, I think...So, we could have traded Parra, Josh Butler and a pretty good AA pitcher plus a PTBNL for Haren?
  13. There is no chance that would be enough to get just Greinke let alone both Greinke and Gordon. The Royals would want Lawrie and probably Gamel plus pitching, and I wouldn't be shocked if they wanted a young MLB talent like Escobar too. Gomez & Casey plus pitching likely wouldn't even get you 20 seconds into a phone call
  14. I wonder how much time Gamel would need at 1B in AAA before he'd be ready to play 1B in MLB? If the Brewers trade Fielder this week, you can't just expect Gamel to be plugged in there without at least some time of learning the position (Edmonds would be a likely candidate to play 1B this season anyways) If Gamel is switched to RF, that would likely require at least a little more time for an adjustement to the position
  15. Now that Jeffress is on the 40 man roster, he will likely not be in danger of expulsion. Gamel is starting to rake again in AAA ball, and Rivas has great potential if he can stay healthy. I think Haren has had a great career but he looks like he is on the decline. He could very easily become another Suppan/Wolf type pitcher (i.e. an expensive 4.50 ERA guy)
  16. I'm struggling to even wrap my mind around what the Brewers would have to give up for 2 years of Greinke (I'm assuming, endaround, that by "2 years" you mean 2 more years after this season)... It would probably need to be something like Alcides Escobar, Jeffress, Rivas, Lawrie and Parra... maybe Jeffress, Rivas, Lawrie and Gamel ... perhaps, though, the Royals would take Fielder and a few minor league pitchers with the intent of flipping Fielder
  17. No chance. I like the potential of all 3 of those players. Haren will be 30 this September and has a 4.60 ERA and a 1.348 WHIP this season
  18. Heether has a .702 OPS (.233 BA) in 40 games with AAA Sacramento so far this season starting to think that Gamel might be destined for 1B, or RF
  19. I'm relatively convinced that Carl Crawford will be a Yankee next season
  20. how many more years does Greinke have before free agency?
  21. Great to see Gamel hitting well again. I think he'll be starting for the Brewers next year at either 3B or 1B
  22. Edmonds has no business being out there in CF with that injured achilles. I admire his toughness but despite the cool catches he does make, there have been plenty of balls he hasn't come close to that Gomez or Cain would have easily tracked down.
  23. I like Axford alot. His WHIP was always a little high throughout his minor league career, but he's got some great stuff and I think he could be a Brewers closer for at least 4-5 years if he remains healthy
