  1. I think Angel Salome has the potential to have a much better than average bat for his position. If Joe Mauer is "elite" then not to that level, but in going along with what Mass Haas said, Mauer has the potential to be a Hall of Famer. I think Salome has the offensive potential to be make the All-Star team a couple/three times in his MLB career, and I think that qualifies as "elite" for a prospect
  2. I was at the game yesterday, Hart looked fine at the plate. 2 for 4, got an RBI, took some pitches. I think you keep Hart as a platoon guy vs lefties, and you hope Edmonds can still produce at his '08 clip Now that is my opinion based on the reality of the situation. In retrospect I would have sold high on Hart after '07 and traded him, and signed Adam Dunn to play RF. Dunn would have been a perfect #5 hitter behind Prince, and you bat Casey in the #2 spot. Hindsight is 20/20 of course
  3. When you are as juiced up as Sosa apparently was, sneezing can be pretty dangerous... Suppan probably should have kept that one to himself, though, especially in a working-man's town like Milwaukee... such excuses might fly as a Giant, but then again if Suppan was a Giant he would have been traded or DFA'ed a long time ago...
  4. Just a guess, but maybe a closer or a set-up man, in combination with Braddock perhaps. So far his K/9 ratio is amazing
  5. The point is, I'd like neither of them as a starting catcher on a team I hope can make the playoffs, but at least Kendall is still relatively good behind the plate.
  6. I was at the game today, Miller Park was not exactly rockin and rolling as the Brewers hitters got schooled by a rookie. Cardinals fans sitting near me were laughing at Macha not walking Pujols with 2 out, down 4-0 and men on 2nd and 3rd. Why you would pitch to Pujols in that situation is beyond me. Yes Holliday is starting the season hot but at least you gotta take the bat out of Pujols' hands and get a force play at any base. That pretty much busted the game wide open...
  7. It was good to see Hart get some good at bats today and an RBI. I was at the game and there were plenty of boos when his name was announced (plenty of cheers though, too). Small sample yadda yadda but in terms of psychology it would be great to see Hart get on a little hot streak for a week or two
  8. I'm a big Weeks fan. Love the way he hustles, love his talent, love that he's a team leader. But I would not extend him until he's had at least a full healthy season...
  9. extremely small sample but so far he looks like a weak fielding Jason Kendall
  10. tough loss... on the plus side Escobar was fantastic tonight
  11. Great news, I'm very happy about the signing jvrocksaz , thats very cool that your son is friends with Yo's son, but I would suggest taking those pics down. Maybe I'm overly sensitive to it because I work in the entertainment industry (no, I'm not anyone famous, I work more behind the scenes, but I do work with some famous people). There are alot of weirdos out there, especially when it comes to celebrities and their kids. I'm very conscious of the need for celebs to maintain privacy for their families, and Yo's star is definitely rising these days... maybe it is no big deal, I just know that if I was someone famous I would not want pictures of my kids out there
  12. I'm a big believer in Carlos Gomez' talent. I think he'll eventually develop the OBP to be a great lead-off hitter, but that might be in 2012. I like Weeks in the lead-off spot for the reasons already mentioned: OBP, speed... it is good to see that Weeks looks to be continuing the trend he set in his brief time in '09, working the count and not chasing the low outside curve-ball (i.e. the "Bill Hall nemesis")
  13. At this point I just hope that Suppan's leash is short. We've got tickets for Saturday's game. Pretty psyched the #5 starter isn't going then, and instead we get to see Gallardo vs Carpenter
  14. I'm having fun watching the Crew... I would bat Escobar 7th and the catcher 8th, thats about the only thing I would change so far Oh, and Macha yawning today while Sharpie was pitching. I don't know what was more funny: Macha yawning or that they showed it on TV! Gotta love Sharpie, lull em to sleep baby!
  15. Gallardo giving up 4 runs in 7 innings rates out to a 3.86 ERA, we can live with that... Zaun was not exactly awe inspiring, although he did have a nice throw on a steal attempt early in the game... Gomez is going to be fun to watch this year...
  16. you sure did call it, and it's the best case scenario I could have imagined
  17. What is the deadline on getting this prediction in? I'd like to see how quickly the 5th starter gets a start, and who that 5th starter is
  18. if they can start strong, they'll have the advantage of having more home games in the rest of the season
  19. The days of James Patrick Edmonds putting up 42 HR's, 111 RBI's and a .643 slugging percentage (1.061 OPS) like he did in 2004 are almost for sure long gone. But if he can put up the .937 OPS that he had in '08 with the Cubs (and he did have 19 HR's in only 85 games with Chicago that year) he is a huge upgrade over Hart And Hart is an upgrade on the bench over what Frank Catalanotto contributed last year. He could be an effective late inning pinch runner, and a solid backup when the Crew is facing strong left handed pitching That is my win-win scenario.
  20. I think it won't be long before Edmonds takes Hart's job. I also think Hart has the potential to bring his game back around and I'm hopeful that he does. I am cautiously optimistic about Jim Edmonds, I must say I like him much better in RF and not taking playing time away from Gomez in center
  21. Count me in as one of the people who think Edmonds is going to take Hart's job sooner rather than later
  22. Bush's time in the bullpen in recent memory has been less than wondrous. He's the type of pitcher who seems to struggle a little early and then settle down strongest in innings 3-5, sometimes innings 2-5. I suppose they could keep him strictly in long relief to stay stretched out but trying to use him as a one inning relief guy could be disastrous
  23. I'd like to see: Bush and Narveson start, Parra in the bullpen, Suppan in long relief, Villanueva sent to Triple A to work on being a starter again I think we will see: Suppan as a #4, Parra as a #5, Bush unhappily in the bullpen (and giving up alot of home runs), Narveson in the bullpen, Villanueva in Triple A, and ugly scenes in Miller Park when Suppan starts
  24. 82-80 and miss the playoffs... too many question marks plus the Reds will be improved Of course "if" everything comes magically together where Hart hits like Werth, Weeks hits like Utley, Gomez plays lights out, McGehee proves last year wasn't a fluke and stays healthy, Fielder finally puts 2 great seasons in a row together, all the starting pitching stays healthy, *and* they trade for pitching at the deadline, they could be a 90 to 92 win playoff team That is a heckuva lot of "ifs" though!
  25. Parra looks like a career AAAA pitching 5.25 ERA 1.55 WHIP type of guy, at best, to me. As a die-hard Brewers fan, I hope to be proven wrong
