  1. Yet another day that Gamel sits. Strange things brewin' with the Brewers
  2. It makes me wonder if there's some sort of power struggle going on between Macha and Melvin, like maybe they disagree on whether Gamel is MLB ready right now. Considering the possibility that neither will be employed by the Brewers by the time Gamel is free agency eligible, somebody needs to step in and rectify the situation.
  3. I don't like how Hardy says he won't switch positions. I don't like how he says he doesn't like hitting 8th (and played like it today). That's not the team first attitude I look for in players, and he doesn't back up the 'tude with incredible play either. The day the Brewers trade Hardy and promote Escobar, I'll be thrilled
  4. That is a bizarre lineup. Even Ned Yost would have a hard time coming up with a lineup that strange. Look for Hardy to go oh-for, with a bit of a 'tude. He hates batting 8th
  5. I think most Brewers fans overestimate Hardy's trade value. He alone or with 2nd tier prospects won't bring in a 1st rate pitcher. We'd need to include a very good prospect or two. Every GM in MLB knows how much of a streaky hitter and slow runner JJ is, not to mention his injury prone past. Even though JJ actually played in an All-Star game once, he is no All-Star (in my opinion). JJ has a great throwing arm but somewhat limited range out of what you'd expect from supposedly one of the top fielding SS's in the game. He can turn around a fast ball in a hurry, but every pitcher in MLB knows that now, and JJ isn't adjusting. Untill he works out the kinks in his swing he'll always be streaky at the plate
  6. So far, Macha seems to be really big on the small sample (extreme example is when he started Hall vs a right-hander because Hall was 6 for 8 against him in his career or something like that). He loves going with "who is hot", whether that be someone who is hot for a week or a month or in spring training. Thus he wanted to get Casey up at the plate in a clutch situation. Not saying I agree with the decision. The positive, flip-side of that equation is we no longer have a manager who will stubbornly stick with "their guy". Seriously, how long did it take for Yost to figure out he should platoon Jenkins?
  7. I think the likelihood of trading Hardy at the deadline is pretty low, even though I'd love to see him as part of a package that brings Haren to Milwaukee. Macha seems real hesitant to play a rookie on a regular basis (McGehee had to wait a long time to get hardly any at-bats, Gamel isn't playing alot), and I could see Escobar hitting around .240 or so (which, *cough* if what our veteran SS is hitting). Its hard to get a read on Macha because this, his first season, is still young; but my instincts say he prefers playing veterans and will only play a rookie on a regular basis if they are hitting lights out like Casey is. So I sense that when Macha is asked for his 2 cents he's saying keep Hardy through 2009. Of course, Escobar would be a slight improvement defensively (which is saying something) and Haren would greatly improve our rotation, so who knows?
  8. On a serious note, I would trade Hardy, Parra, and a top level minor league pitcher for Haren. Promote Escobar from AAA and get ready for a run...
  9. I would imagine the D-Backs would want Braun for Haren, or a package of Gamel, Parra, Escobar and Hart
  10. I think if we called and asked for Lee and Martinez they'd ask for Gallardo in return. Seriously.
  11. Well it is good to see Gamel starting today. Clearly, Macha wants to see Gamel hitting better before he gets more playing time. Which makes sense. This MLB, not little league, you don't get to play just because of your name or your potential.
  12. I'm one of those who still believes Milledge will eventually get it together, and I'm not thrilled that we'll have to face him 15 times a year or whatever it is
  13. Looks like Hart is at the beginning of one of his hot streaks now, can't even think about trading him till he cools off
  14. there's alot to like about Vasquez. He's very durable (30+ games started for 9 straight years) and is consistently a strike-out pitcher (career 8.1 K/9), and he can even hit a little bit (career .203 hitter in 570 plate appearances.) While he hasn't had a ton of post-season success he does have post-season experience . He'd be a good addition
  15. I think the plan was to play him alot more at 3B but Casey is forcing Macha's hand. Thats the way it is, this is the big leagues and the bat plays. Evidently Melvin feels that having Gamel on the MLB roster, even with limited playing time, is more valuable than the savings in terms of service time would be. The season is close to half-way over, I agree with Al (great blog by the way, Al's Ramblings, been reading it for years) they need the best talent on the roster right now...
  16. A grand slam live on ESPN certainly isn't going to hurt Mighty Casey's cause
  17. I don't like Snell's 1.624 WHIP this year, or his 1.765 WHIP last season, and his SO/9 is way down this year too. Not sure if he is much of an upgrade over what we have, however, I do agree that he'd be worth taking a chance on in case he turns it around... I do think the Pirates would be hesitant to trade within the division
  18. What I'm saying is the Brewers came out today and played like a bunch of players who were thinking "man, I hate day games at Miller Park. I hope I don't hit by a pitch in the glare...", which according to Braun, is the attitude of at least a few players, including himself. I'll grant that I could be reading too much into things, and it could be that they just got stymied by some great pitching today.
  19. At this point I'm more concerned about day games at Miller Park than I am about National TV games. With Braun's recent comments about the glare and how alot of players don't like day games at Miller Park, coupled with the way the Brewers looked today, I think its a real and growing concern.
  20. With Suppan pitching so poorly, Bush hurt, who knows what you've got in Parra, and questionable starters in Burns and McClung, we are left with Gallardo and a solid #4 pitcher in Looper (who sometimes pitches like a #5). Melvin and Ash etc have to be wondering if one great pitcher would even be enough to make the Brewers contenders. Do you really think adding a Bedard is enough to make the Brewers pennant contenders? There are alot of "if's" attached to that: if Parra can make it back and pitch to his potential, if Suppan can start pitching to his career norms (its becoming reasonable to doubt that he will), if Bush will come back strong (I find that probable). If McGehee and Counsel can stay healthy (thats a maybe), if Hart/Hardy/Hall can return to career norms... alot of things have to fall into place ... with all that on the line Melvin and Ash are probably hesitant to give up much for a strong arm a "top notch starter" at the deadline. I think its more likely they bring in a Doug Davis and hope for the best and gear up for a serious run in 2010 with Hardy traded for pitching in the off-season
  21. Thanks for posting that article AJAY. Reading that, I can see its a much bigger deal than I thought it was, because as Braun says, its a safety issue. And, the Brewers don't like playing day games in Miller Park. Thats not good. Management needs to listen to the players. This almost seems like a rift is growing between players and the front office. Not good at all.
  22. Evidently the Cardinals are going for it, big-time, this year with Pujols having what is so far a career year (which is saying something considering his career). I bet they make a strong push for Matt Holliday. I don't want the Brewers to give up the farm to try to keep pace...
  23. Prince Fielder is having an incredible season so far. What a magnificient talent.
  24. Mighty Casey! Is it reasonable at all to think that Casey can keep up this type of hitting? His MLB batting is such a small sample its tough to say
  25. Who knows if we could have gotten Cordero if we didn't include Cruz. I think we couldn't have. Landing Cordero led to our first non-losing season in many many years, which in terms of fan support was a literal precursor to our first playoff appearance in decades. Yes I'd like Nelson Cruz on the Brewers but its important to not look at things in a vacuum. The way our bullpen blew up that year, without Cordero it might have been another disaster season, then the Crew would have made less $$$ from fan support, etc etc
