  1. So with the Wisconsin lineup struggling does anyone else think maybe it's be nice if they promoted a college guy like Prince or Ellington? I know they already called up Fatse and he has been playing left field but Prince is red hot and really could help spark that lineup and is a huge upgrade over Marseco or anyone else they have throw at short. Then with Dennis still out they could use a guy like Ellington with a monster bat. Komatsu maybe if he is good to go. Plus I'd really just like to see Prince play this this season.
  2. The thing with Cole is that he only can play LF. Thats it. When you compare him and Fank Cat the big difference is that Catalantto can play both corner outfield spots which is important I think in a backup outfield spot. Plus Cat has had a very consistant and solid career. I liked Gillespie and was a little disappointed when I first saw that he was one of the guys we gave up but when you think about it how often would he play behind Braun in Left? Would the Brewers move Braun to right for the games they want Gillespie to play or would they move him to right full-time? I guess he just wasn't in the cards for the future. I see that a lot of people don't really care for the trade that much and don't think it makes a difference but really it does. We need some consistancy in the order and especially at the top. Since Weeks went down how many different combos have we mixed together with the top two spots? Counsell Hardy, Counsell McGehee, Counsell, Hart, Counsell Cameron, Hart Hardy, Hart McGehee, Hart Counsell, McGehee Counsell, McGehee Hardy, Kendell Cameron, Kendell Counsell and etc.... with Lopez in the lineup everyday batting leadoff we now should have some consistancy in the lineup like we did with weeks. Mixing and matching the top to in the lineup everyday IMO doesn't help the offense out. Baseball players like routine and feel more comfortable staying in the same spot for more than one game. I'm just hoping it works out this way. My biggest knock I have on Macha is how much he changes the lineup and order game to game. A guy like Hart can go from hitting first, to fifth, to second to sixth or seveth all in a span of 4 to 5 games. Let the guys get comfortable at a spot and maybe you might get some consistant production from the offense. That is all 100% IMO and you guys probably feel completely different about it
  3. You don't know what WOBA is??? I'll fill you in...make up an acronym, tie some numbers to it and pretend you know what you are talking about. No one will question you because they don't want to look stupid. For instance, OPSDGWS (on base % plus slugging in day games with shadows). Very important stat.Lol, I LOVE it! I feel the same way. I consider myself a stat guy and care a lot about the major ones like Average, OPS, and stuff like that but I hate when people throw out all these more complexed stats with ton of things thrown together to eighter make them seem smarter or try to make a bigger bang in a stat arguement. Idk why but I don't pay attention to those stats. maybe I should but oh well.
  4. I like the trade and personally think Gamel will get sent down til September and work on swinging the bat with two strikes on him. (Love Gamel but ughh so many backward K's, he hates the 2 strike inside pitches). That's what I think will happen but I'd really like them to cut ties with Billy in a trade or DFA and let him get a Brad Lidge new start. His future is no longer in Milwaukee, he's not doing us any good wasting away on the bench. I always liked Billy and hope a new start somewhere will help him out. The best part of this trade is we may finally get some consistancy in the top of the order. We have missed that since Weeks got hurt. Everyday the top two hitters get mixed all around and I dont think that helps the offense.
  5. I me it is dumb and really just makes no sense to want to trade Prince after this season or even now. Why? That the huge question to me. We do not have 1 legitement first base prospect and I'd personally move Gamel to OF before 1st base. Next, he carried us at the end of last season (along with CC) and has carried us this year, do you really think without our best leader and hitter we can compete? Braun is not enough. I'd ride Prince out til the end and try to sign him long-team and if you can't take the picks. Trust me, if we were to trade Prince soon we'd really regret it and not be nearly as competitive. Fielder is a special player and if you think that we can just fill his void with gamel and be fine your sadly mistaking. Beside LaPorta the Crew have not drafted one possible replacement for Prince. If they did offer him I'd want a Texeria or what jays want for Halladay type trade. But without Princes 40 hrs and 100+ rbi's good luck competing with a different scrub in there replacing him. The kid is 25 and this good and only getting better, no need to trade him
  6. That a boy Cody! I know some people think I'm crazy for ranking him 3rd overall when I talk about pitchers (behind Braddock and Jeffress) but I have a lot of faith in this kid. Cody started out the season with a bumpy April and May but his stats since June 1 have been great. Hope he keeps it up!
  7. Nice to see the back 2 back Canadian duo with Weglarz and Lawrie
  8. Who said all that? Because I know from reading Brauns comments many times that your not talking about him. What he really said was the cubs outplayed them in every aspect and he'd like DM to try to make a deal for a pitcher to help out. Which we all want Melvin to do so we must all think Melvin sucks. As for Billy, I have no problem with his comment. Every MLB player should have that kind of confidence in themselves. It's not like he said he needs more pt or should be an all-star. We knows he is struggling and needs to get on track so it's not like he thinks he's playing like the best
  9. He is streaky, he started the season great and then started to get shelled. His ERA went into the 5 range then he got it back down into the 3's now he imploded again. Just move him down the peeking order and stop giving him the ball in clutch situations for awhile til he hits another grove. The guy has been good enough for us over the last 2-3 seasons that we thought he could be a closer or a set up guy so we need to let him work things out. When he is on he's on and well when he's not he's aweful. Who ever said McClung....thanks for the laugh. He is is just as bad as Villy is right now. I'd say Coffey is the best option along with Defilice (spelling).
  10. I think I may be that only guy on here that really would not mind or actually be really excited if Braddock stays in the pen. The guy has incredible stuff andthe brewers could really use a F-Rod or a vintage Gagne after Trevor leaves. The guy could be an amazing closer. Don't get me wrong i'd be nice if he was in the rotation but if not no complaints from me. Also wow, you overrate your prospects a little to much. No way in hell Lucroy or Odorizzi make the top 50 and Braddock is a long shot
  11. See this is the way I see this whole thing: 1. Bluejays have said they want this to be a package deal including Vernon Wells, so any team who will entertain the idea of take Wells 107 million off their hands is clearly going to be the winning in the Halladay sweepstakes. The Brewers in no way shape or form should even consider that for a second. The Bluejays are also trying to trade Rollins and Rios who both have pretty big contracts which has already been talked about. So maybe if we could pull off a package deal for Rios that would save us Escobar and give them Hardy I'd be all for that. But if the Jays really do want a package deal, I would hope that the Crew wouldn't take Rollins or Wells. We have better places for that money (Fielder and Yo) 2. This is a full out bidding war so there is no getting away save and not giving up that much. It will end up costing us Escobar, Gamel, Lawrie, and maybe even Braddock because they also want a Pitcher and he is our closet, most talented one. If we are not will to give them it, well the Angels, Rex Sox, Yankees, Dodgers, Phillies, Mets all may be willing to give up that much. He has been one of the most dominate pitchers over the last 7-8 years it is going to take a lot. If I was GM of the Bluejays I'd be doing the same thing and tell a team this is what I want and if you can't give it to me I can get it somewhere else. It's not like the Jays need to trade him, they can keep him and still get a lot for him next year around the trade deadline. They hold all the cards and it is going to take a lot. An Escobar, Lawrie, Parra trade won't cut it. 3. I really think people bank on the C.C. factor from last season. C.C. stock was cheaper to begin with than Halladay because 1) He was in his final year and his team was not a contender. 2) he was not having the best season. It wasn't bad but he had the aweful April and took awhile for him to heat up so is stock/value wasn't as high as Halladay's is right now. Next we got lucky. That's is an understantment even because how often is a team going to make a deadline blockbuster trade and have that pitcher throw one of the best halfs of a season in baseball history? Not usually, they may pitch good and help out but not all are going to put the whole team and state of Wisconsin and carry them on his back. C.C. spoiled us and I think that everyone now thinks that every great pitcher we bring in is going to do the same thing. I'm not in anyway claiming Roy wouldn't help make a playoff push or pitch amazing for us but you never know how it will turn out. We will get him for a whole extra season and that be awesome but we are going to play a huge price tag for it. 4. I kind of hope we just stay pat or maybe get a pitcher like Vasquez or Davis that won't cost to much to rent. I think we try to make it with what we have and if we can't well this off-season DM can go and make some stuff happen to get us where we need to be.
  12. I was personally a big Eveland fan when we was in our system and think he is still young enough to get his career going. Hopefully DM still likes him and would give him another shot.
  13. In all fairness to Manny the ump had it out for him. Both K calls on him were just aweful. One god aweful strike out call thats fine but two.... come on even if we did show you up after the first one. Still [expletive deleted] that they suspended Willie for that. (edit: language --1992)
  14. With it kinda seeming like they will send Gamel down I think there is room for Heether. I'd be really disappointed if he isn't the one called up, he has earned it. Hurricane maybe would get the call but Escobar doesn't have a chance unless Hardy was to get hurt. Does anyone else think that Braddock may get bumbed to triple A by the end of the season? I think that'd be great. He gets his shoes wet up there this season then next comes out as a starter and is in Milwaukee by the break. He has the talent, plus we could use another Gallardo type bat in the rotation. 1st minor league at-bat a grand slam? Man, im starting to get as excited over him as I did when Yovani was coming up.
  15. Jackalope reminds me of those rediculious above the influence commercials. I still don't think you understand yet that it is only weed. Now if Jeffress was hitting the crackpipe, taking a few lines, shoting up with some herorin, taking hits of PCP or puking drunk every night then I will start to worry and think wow his life is going down the drain. This guy really needs help to kick some serious addictions (real addicting drugs). But it is only weed, yes some people consider it a gateway drug and an "addicting drug" but that is something they tell in health class to scare you away I think. If you look at all the drugs that he could have a problem with, he sure picked the best one of all all them. Does less damage to your body and health, is the safest to be on, and its not addicting. So to right the kid off and claim he isnt going anywhere in life because he smoke weed thats crazy. I'm a college kid who drinks does that means I'm going nowhere in life? You are a million more times likely to die from alcohol than from weed. I personally don't like weed and much rather drink but it drives me nuts when people try to make it so much worse than what it really is. Only a really conservative, closed minded, uneducated on drugs person can sit here and try to claim that a 21 years old career and future is doomed and over because he gets high. The NBA has many success players and I'd be willing to bet that a lot of those guys are getting high as soon as they leave the locker room. Hell Santario Holmes was pulled over with four joints right in his middle compartment all ready to be smoked and I'm not going to lie he is a pretty good player. Just do some research that is not done by above the influence or some conservative or religious nuts. You will see that his life is over. I tip my hat to you for being a perfect human being and never doing anything wrong but I for one can admit I have made plenty and will continue to make them. Brewers, get smart and test the kid constantly. The best way to solve this is to give him 1 or 2 test randomly a month and if he does fail one, keep it quite and bench with a "injury" You can't not test a guy who continues to screw up. If he knews that he is only going to be tested once or twice a year he is 100 times more likely to smoke thinking that he will be fine. If he knows that at anytime he can be tested. He will get a hell of a lot smarter.
  16. That's like suggesting you drive better after a couple of rounds of tequila shooters. Come on. And addictions to pain killers are a serious problem world wide. In many cases it's as bad as being addicted to recreational drugs. Has the same affect on family and your life. People lose jobs, homes, families and their lives. To clear the record there is no close comparison to drinking and driving and pitching high..... at all, not ever close. Plus i highly doubt that he pitched high in the first place. Most likely bored in the hotel with nothing better to do, thats my guess. Next I know that pain killers are a serious problem and that is why I related Brett Favre to Jeffress. To me pain killers are worse than weed beause it damages your health a lot more. You sat here talking about what you would tell your child if Jeffress was pitching in the majors so what do you say about Brett Favre and his old addiction to pain pills? Or Lawerence Taylor and coccaine? Then Josh Hamilton who has outdone what Jeffress has by 100x what do you say about him? If he was to make it to Milwaukee it's because he grow up and fixed the problem like all those other guys did. So I wouldn't focus on the bad when talking to a young child about players but the positive like about how he worked hard and overcame addiction so become a very good player.
  17. jackalope, this is no different than Brett Favre being addicted to pain pills. Someday Im not going to tell my kid not to like Favre because he had problems and an addiction. Weed is no worse than pain pills and if it was that bad they wouldn't give it out as medication to those who need it (in some states). Cut the kid some slack, everyone makes mistakes and some make more than others. I have made many and eventually I learned from them. You can't cast off a 21 year old for making a few mistakes definitly if it's only weed.... there are far worse drugs that are more addicting and really and mess up your life. WVbree I wouldn't be to nervous with him being high pitching to. So the guy is a little more calm and focused on the mound. Much better than a drunk or on pcp or something. Plus I doubt he was getting high before games in the first place I bet he did while he was bored chillin in his hotel room. I'm not supporting him smoking but the way you make it sound is as if he is the worse kid in the world and that's not the case, just a immuture 21 year old who needs to grow up. I hope he does and he figures it out and does help out the brewers in the future.
  18. You never release a 21 year old or younger who throws 100 mph with a nasty breaking ball over smoking weed. I could list about 29 teams that would claim him in a heart beat. The problem "could" be addiction but its real hard for me to say that because I know plenty of people who have very addictive personalities and when the time comes, if they know they need to take a test soon they can quit like that so.... I really think its him not thinking and being immature. Brewers have money invested into him and they should ride out the storm and really stick on him. If I'm them I'd test him every month, not for MLB to see or anything but to monitor him and let him know that it needs to stop. If you tell a stoner that he will randomly be tested and may not get tested at all in a season of course he's going to smoke if he knows that randomly every month he will be test he will have to get a lot smarter. Thats what he needs, not rehab in my opinion.
  19. MLB really needs to lighten up on the marijana issue and not link it in the substance abuse poliy(I think weed shouldn't be considered as bad as steroids and PED's) . We all know marijana isn't a bad drug, a harmful drug and is actually 10x safer than alcohol but it is just something that is fowned upon in our American culture. I personally don't smoke it because I just don't care that much for it, I can throw in a snus or dip and get the same feeling except for the giggles. Plus being considered a stoner was never a image or label I wanted as an athlete or coach and now a soon to be parent. With that said it should be legalized in the first place, it's a billion plus dollar industry if they would tax and sell it. But this isn't the site to get into it. To me Jeffress needs to just grow up. It's not an addiction it's pure immaturity like someone said before. You can stop if you want. He should have know that after his first suspension that he'd be tested more and at least learned the millions of ways to clear it out of you system. Baseball should stop even testing for marijana like the NBA. Could you image if the NBA tested? ha David Stern is a bright man for not. Jeffress if you really can't quit get a hold of Ricky Williams and asked how hewent like 7 years without being busted when he smokes multiple times everyday. I know he failed 4 in a season but thats after he went crazy and really thought that getting high, traveling the world with no money was the true way to live life. Hope Jeremy takes a note from that a realizes that getting kicked out of sports and losing all your money isn't worth it at all
  20. If his defense is ready then maybe but I don't think from what I've heard it is yet.
  21. Eric Arnett's tweet after the game Not the best start, felt pretty good though. Hopefully next one is better 1 inning 1 hit 2 ER 2 BB Not sure it was posted but that's what he thought of it
  22. To me from what I read it sounds like he is a faster JJ Hardy (faster is an understatement because I think even Prince is faster). He sounds like he could develop some decent pop, plays sound defensively and is a plus fielder with good range and they are both built simular. Big difference is JJ is lucky if he can steal 6 bases in a season let alone in a game oh and Josh Hottie doesn't quick have the same ring as JJ Hottie haha
  23. Please let this be completely false.Agreed, I mean if it doesn't take much to get him then maybe. I'd take him over Burns or McClung but I wouldn't give up that much for him. DM has always liked Davis from when they where in Texas and when he brought him here the first time so it wouldn't surprise me if it happens. And jjfanec thanks for posting that because I know I haven't seen him on their lately and wasn't sure Toby ever put him on. And I agree with you, I liked the trade for him and liked what I read about him but last year was just ugly for him so I moved him way down on my list for top pitchers like most did. The thing with me is I didn't follow him that year he was with the Rays and after he was a 2nd round pick so the only sample size I had of him was last year. So I just want to see him continue to pitch great before i make my decison on him.
  24. From my understanding, though, the emotional issues are nothing crippling like we've seen some other players in the past. Much like the whole Escobar deal, I wish TH would not feel he has to post EVERYTHING he knows. Lord knows we don't. Zach is probably my favorite pitcher in the minors right now. Once he puts it all together, he'll be a beast. Man if and when he does puts it all together it's going to be scary for opposing hitters. I think next year we will be in the Nashville rotation but like someone said before, this season they have a strict inning and pitch count limit on him as they do with Rogers. I think he could be up in Milwaukee by June or July next season if he doesn't have any set backs. If he doesn't go back to being a starter i would think it's because they feel he could be their future closer. Sure has the stuff to be.
  25. I said that to make a point that we on this forum really weren't talking about him last season as being this really great prospect. We weren't. He got off to a bad start and his struggles continued and no one during last season was raving about how good his stuff was when he was not pitching good. I never said that he wasn't talked about in the Ray orginization or wasn't rated high by them. Didn't say BA didn't like I just said "Last year after Butler got here no one talked about him or thought much of him" I could have made that a little more clear but we really didn't beside right after the trade. Heck he still isn't in the power 50 i believe. Thats the kind of love we gave him.
