  1. Jeffress was are only pitcher who would have opened doors for us but he got suspended. We really just don't have the pitching depth in the system. Yes we have raw potential in Rookie ball and in A ball teams aren't going to usually make an rookie ball or low A pitcher a centerpiece of a trade (Knapp in the Lee trade is kind of raw but he has Jeffress like upside) Next year it may be a different story if the Brewers actually promote pitchers to higher levels when they pitch well. Not a knock on them but most teams would like a pitcher who has pitched admirely in AA before they give up a top player in a trade. So you know if Peralta or Scarpetta made it to AA by June and pitch real well next year that may open more doors. We just didn't have the players to make a deal, I'm not going to blame Doug for that and Kurkjian was right.
  2. McKelvie is 1-3 tonight and finally started to heat up after a 1-28 start. Over the last 10 he is hitting .290 but has 12 k's. Man Bucci has been great over his last 5 starts he is 4-0 32 IP 1.41 era 6 bb 35k. Not bad at all. Very excited to see what Colome did tonight 2IP O hits 1 bb 4 K's. Anyone see Wooten getting bumped up again? He has been awesome in AA and I hope they want to move him up quickly. We could use him.
  3. http://www.independentmail.com/news/2009/jun/10/hannas-hall-drafted-brewers/ http://media.independentmail.com/and/content/img/photos/2009/06/10/0611BrooksHall_t220.jpg Sounds good but don't know what they been waiting for...... Get it done, the only reason I would think that they haven't is maybe he has been having some arm problems
  4. Come on, lets all admit it.... we really did miss his 5 hour starts because he takes 3 minutes inbetween every pitch. Wait nope, nevermind, I forgot that was a nightmare to watch and even worse to at the games for. Well ummmm I'm kind of speechless, I heard that Burns is coming back up this morning instead of any other pitcher the our minor leagues who could do just as bad as him and then are huge deadline trade was for Vargas.... I thought when I hopped in my car this morning to go to the gas station and the first first song I heard was Black Eye Peas, I got a feeling (tonight is going to be a good good night) it was a sign for good things to come http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/frown.gif
  5. Why Doug why? Drop him from the 40 man and add Cody. Or just bring up Wright. We know Burns is not good, give someone else a chance to come up and be not good. Burns had a good few outings at first when no one had seen him before and teams probably didn't have much tape on him
  6. Bill Hall can and has played all those, 2B & SS his first few seasons then CF now 3B he also started a game in left this season but rolled his ankle or something. As for why he gets to decide what he does is because he wants to get back to the player he is. He wanted to go down and the Brewers wanted him to stay up. So if goes down starts to feel good and drive the ball that's a good thing and he should then come back up. What's the big deal? I love Billy and hope he does come around.
  7. Ha Stevo your really not letting that Lee trade go are ya. I personally really Like Martinez but we have Salome/ Lucroy right there so I agree with Stevo pitching is most important
  8. Man, I'd be nice to get Bailey but doubt that'd happen. He was the guy I really wanted in that draft so to be able to have him and Rogers that'd be great. I doubt MA would shut that down. The only reason IMO he would is because he feels he'd lose a lot of the JJ Hottie fans. Let's face he draws in the girls and well Harang is a pretty ugly man. Ha
  9. Not much for defense for Anundsen and Rapoza tonight. 7IP 5 Hits 5 Runs 2 ER 0 walks 6 K's was Anundsen line. Congrats to Escobar and the child, and a catcher being beat but is a little hard than must positions to suck up. If your not healthy at catcher you will have more pitches get past you, your pop time won't be as good and your arm will be a little off. Salome's defensive is already questionable to Money so not surprised he doesn't want to trout him out there. They don't have a DH right now so who knows im just speculating. I just hope he gets back in there soon.
  10. Yes, frankly I do think he was twiddling his thumbs. Other teams have filled their needs. Why can't the Brewers fill at least one of theirs?? You honestly don't think he could find someone in a trade better then Mike Burns or Carlos, without having to sacrifice more then a AA guy or two?? I'm not buying it. I will bet dimes to dollars he could have....He just wouldn't pull the trigger for whatever reason. He told Macha on more then one occasion that he was "trying to make the team better". He lied to his Manager. Cuz if he really was he would have someone right now. What happened to the "we'll be aggressive but smart" mentality?? Being aggressive doing nothing??lol, wow.....okay. So what pitcher did you want us to get? How many prospects do you want to give up? I bet your an insider and everything and know exactly what these teams are asking for but why over pay and toss away Gamel, Escobar Lawrie Braddock or someone else for a okay rental who will be no better than Suppan or Looper? Why?!? Arizona wanted to add us to add a top tier prospect to the trade to get Doug Davis. Washbourn was going to cost us Escobar. Throw out one pitcher who would be a smart option, keeping in mind that your whole idea that the Brewers could low ball some team into giving us a above average pitcher for only the likes of a Gindl or Green. I don't think you understand the aggressive but smart mentality because what you want to do is just aggressive and not bright. I know it may be hard to understand and all but Milwaukee is a small-market team. We can't afford to be big buyers and throw way players like Escobar for a Davis or a Vasquez. I for one would like to say thanks Doug.....for doing nothing! You did the right thing by using your aggressive but smart mentality and not giving into the outragious prices that teams are asking for medicore pitchers. Also if you think Macha is going home at night crying because Doug lied to him and didn't make a dumb trade your extremely wrong. Macha knows baseball and how the game works. He has Bush coming back in a few weeks, Parra has started to get a little better and I think we have 20 games in august against last place teams. We can easily get hot with what we have, hell we got hot with what we had in the beginning of the season. Your such a downer. OMG we didn't make a trade now we are doomed, oh no....blah blah blah, whatever happened to believing in your team. Baseball is a sport of speed bumps, and you get hot and you get cold. We got cold last year at a much worst time and we rebounded. We didn't rebound because in mid September we went out and got another pitcher but we got hot again at the right time. Same with the Phillies, they didn't bowl over everyone all last season they got red hot at the end of September and stayed hot. Remember we were in first place with our rotation until right before the All-Star break. We can stay pat and still contend we just need to get hot. If we don't well their is always next year.....a next year thanks to Melvin it will still consist of nice cheap options Escobar and Gamel. So thank you Doug for being smart!
  11. Yes, agree totally. That is by far my biggest knock on the Brewers farm system. They take it so slow with almost every except a top flight players like Braun or Gallardo. The one player that has really made me upset that they havent't gave him a chance (absolutely great all year except for his last start)is Anundsen. I fail to see how it has been helpful for him to just dominate opposing hitter all season and the Brewers be not willing to challenge him. It's not like the Huntsville rotation couldn't use him. Then you have a guy like Fiers who is what, 25? Of course he is going to dominate all the 18-19 year olds in rookie ball, move him up. The Brewers have had many bad breaks when it comes to pitchers but do we really need to baby all of them? Our AAA pitching staff is just ugly, and AA isn't that great so why not make some promotions are test your athletes. As a football coach I'm smarter than to put my star defensive lineman up against the most undersized not that good lineman because it doesn't help my star get any better. Instead you have him battling the other better players so he has to push himself. I know baseball is a completely different thing but still if you go out and dominate every game, it isn't challenging you. Athletes need to be challenged and whats the worse that can happen, you get shelled or don't hit and get sent back down. Side note, does anone know why Odorizzi hasn't pitched since July 16th? Or any news on when Butler will be back?
  12. Over Cameron...yeah, I would. He is much younger and cheaper option. Doesn't nearly as much power or is as good on defense but hits for better average and k's a lot less. Really I'll take any younger cheaper option if he will produce around the same. I don't know what other younger of's could be had for cameron and don't think he could net a good pitcher. I just remember that trade that almost happened but the Crew and Yankees couldn't agree on a pitcher to be traded along with Cabrera. (I think that was why it fell though) When it was on the table I was all for it and still would be.
  13. Hopefully we can net someone for Cameron, real disappointed still that we didn't get that trade for Melky Cabrera finished. So hope we could pull off a trade like that.
  14. I like the Hardy to Boston. I hope it would be able to net Bowden. No way we could get Clay Buchholtz for JJ
  15. http://www.cineol.net/images/noticias/Cameos/Waterboy_2.jpg to quote Rob Schneider in waterboy "ahhhhh we suck again!!!!" man this is bad, ha at least we have Gallardo tomorrow....bad news is if he gives up one or two runs that may be enough for him to take a lose with the run support he gets.
  16. completely agree, no way the Pirates aren't competing for last place next season. After they have traded all their experienced vets for guys who are still a year or 2 away, they really don't have much. They have potential to be a good young team in 2011 or 2012 but they are just so young and raw right now. It's to bad for them that they maybe have the worst scouts and crosscheckers or just front office in the league causing them to make mistake after mistake in the draft. McCutchen and Alvarez were good picks but after that they haven't done a good job stocking their system. They trade for good ones but its a 2 way street and to compete you need to draft good also.
  17. Are you serious? The Phillies farm system is FAR better than aweful and how is giving up your 2, 3,4 and 10 not getting a top 3 prospect? By my count the Indians got two top 3 prospects. http://www.prosportsdaily.com/comments/suddenly-phillies-boast-fertile-farm-system-257039.html thats an article about the Phillies farm system and how it was ranked 12th to start the season and now Jim Callis says it maybe the 6th or 7th best at midseason(before the trade). So yeah, how is that an aweful system? I think Indians got a good deal. A major league ready pitcher, and two hitting prospects that are almost ready to go and a huge upside pitcher who is 18 and has a huge power arm. Not that bad off a trade.
  18. You know I agree about trying to keep Rogers healthy and a pitch count but what I do disagree about is pulling him during a perfect game. It may not mean much when he is in the majors but to him it probably does. When I pitched I was never good enough to pitch a no hitter but if I was and got pulled during I'd be so disappointed because it really is special. I don't care if he would have gone out in the 5th and gave up a hit and got pulled but he didn't even get that chance. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/frown.gif well Rogers and Jones keep it up! Jones needs needs to get promoted, hes isn't a prospect really anymore but I'd take him over everyone in AAA beside maybe Cody. The guy has work so hard and been though so much, let him move up and finally try to prove himself in AAA and make the bigs. I'm happy that he resigned and wanted to stay a Brewer and prove himself and I'd like to see him in Milwaukee next year sometime.
  19. I don't think clublevels comment should be taken offensively Peavy. The way I read it was he was stating that BrewCrew07 wasn't a bandwagon fan but mirely one of the new fans that don't believe in developing a good system and bringing up prospects anymore but want to only be buyers like the Red Sox and Yankees. Before Brewer fans weren't people who'd be saying we need to trade Fielder, Weeks, Hart and a pitcher (when in the minors) to go get this pitcher or that pitcher. We were a small market team and still are but fans got spoiled with C.C. and think that the Brewers need to continue to make big trades like this every year. Those are the "new fans". For anyone who thinks we are only one pitcher away from making a push I really think your mistaking. Look at Gallardo, does his record look that pretty? No, not really, not as good as it should be. why.... because we don't give him run support. What makes you think just because we make a trade that our offense will score runs for Roy? He could give up one run a game and that may just be one to many. In baseball there is no guarantees, last year it worked out, this year who knows. But we need bullpen help, 3 other starting pitchers (if we got Roy) who can get outs, and someone not named Braun, McGehee, or Fielder to help produce. Takes more than won player to win a championship. I'm pretty sure the one everyone wants to get hasn't carried the Jays to one yet. I say make a trade for some decent pitcher if the price is right but don't throw away your future on it. Last season when we got C.C. we were already one of the hottest teams in baseball (until September) this year....... not so much. I say ride out the storm if DM can't find a good deal and hope like hell we get hot again.
  20. players i'm against selling: Yo Gallardo, Braun, Fielder, Weeks, Hoffman, Stetter Hardy I don't mind because we have Escobar and Hart because we have Cat to fill in the rest of the season. They both Cat and Escobar can easily produce as much as Hardy and Hart have this season. So if we trade both off them we'd still be just as competitive I think. Cameron I don't mind at all and hopefully if we did Gerut would finally get in and his bat would wake up. We can sell the rest of our rotation and bullpen..... can't get much worse I'd love any team that would take Suppan or Hall off our hands. I still like Billy but he needs a new start and a team that would give him a chance to get himself turned around. I'd eat part of his contract and not ask for that much. What good does we do for us getting maybe 3 at bats a week for 7-8 million a year?
  21. I can't believe they turned that trade down ecspecially "quickly". For anyone who still wants the brewers to get him.....it will cost us Escobar, Gamel, Lawrie, Braddock. Thank god DM knows what kind of team we are (a small market team) and can't afford to clean house to get one pitcher for a year and a half.
  22. 4-4 with a walk and a triple from the lead off spot. Man that was a useless trade if I may say so myself. I wish we could go back to Counsell and Kendell as our everyday lead-off hitters.... Little sarcastic there but even though he won't do this every game, he really is a solid option who gets on-base from the leadoff spot. Thats what makes it a good (not great but overall solid) trade. We need guys who just get on base. As for Katin..... serious plate discipline would be an understatement for a guy who strikes out every 3 at bats and doesn't walk. The only reason I'd even come close to saying he is a good of a prospect as Gillespie is because of the massive power and he isn't limited to just left field. Cole has good speed and 15-20 hr pop. His plate disciple is fantastic. Plus he keeps a respectible OPS. If it wasn't for his shot arm I think he'd be much more valuable. The past three he has been rated by BA as a top 10 prospect for us and I don't believe Katin has made the top 20 or even the list period.
  23. ha thats a good point but I didn't limit my comment to just the position players. I wouldn't mind Fiers, Bucci, Lamontagne, Odorizzi, or Rosario getting a call-up. Bucci definitally with his decent success in AA and the way he is carving teams up right now. I love how the Brewers took a chance by having Trejo and Zarraga in Wisconsin to start the season. Even if they did struggle thats fine, at least they were getting tested and seeing what they could handle. I wish the Brewers would do that with pitching. Take more chances cough cough Anundsen cough cough lol no way he should not be in AA yet. Dykstra....... wow maybe his defense in centerfield wasn't so bad. Feel bad for the kid, he's not hitting, he's not fielding and then i dont know for a fact but the family stuff has to be tough on him to. As for Prince's defense I'm not tthat worried. Escobar is considered the by many the top defensive ss in the minor leagues and a future gold glover and even he has 13. I haven't listen to the games or seen any of them so I can't judge on the type of errors he's making. Like most of Escobars are from trying to make great plays but throw is off target. JJ also averaged around 13 errors a season.
  24. Man...There really isnt one thing to cause you not to like McGehee. To me he is just a guy you love to cheer for. He has quickly became one of my favorite Brewers. He may never become an all-star but he works hard, doesn't complain, loves the game, and just does his job.
