  1. That is a pretty ignorant comment knowing how Seid did a pretty good job last year in his first draft and the other fact that DM doesn't pick the players.... Also knowing that Seid was Jack Z's left hand man when he rebuilt the system and and DM was the GM who turned they club from a 102 lose team into a contender. Make a whole lot of sense :/
  2. Well he had 19/16 K/BB in 27IP in Huntsville and that seemed pretty high for me and that one game in AAA where he walked 5 was pretty rough. K's need to go up and BB's need to go down but it will be a great day if he ever gets his shot.
  3. Man I really hope Mike Jones can fix his K/BB ratio because outside of that he has been pitching rather good and I can't help but to continue to pull for him to finally make it to the majors. Does anyone know what he is throwing these days, I thought the last I heard was that he was still hitting 93-94 mph but not sure if that is still so..
  4. Lol Gennett has is only two months worth of hitting removed from high school. Lawrie is 20 and already is like the 3rd youngest player in the SL. I think they both are perfectly fine where they are. Come August I think if they are both still killing it and help is needed for a playoff push (like last year when Lawrie and Scarpetta got the bump to AA) I think that is fine and dandy to get there feet a little wet. But right now to get them playing everyday could do some damage if they struggle and even more if they are sent back down for struggling. Both are very confident young kids which help makes them as good as they are if they struggle bad and loss that, we couldjave another Parra situation. Main point is no need to rush. It is not like their is a position in the majors that they need to fill asap and be rushed for. We know both can hit, know it is time for them to learn how to field a ball....Gennett is no gold glover and Lawrie is far from one. I haven't had a chance to see Heckathorn pitch in person but I am curious if his low strike out rate is due to him taking a Jimenez approach and pitching to contract instead of going for the K's. From what I read on him it sounded like he could be a strikeout pitcher so I am curious on that. Eighter way his last 5 games have been pretty impressive! Last 5 games 3-0 - 34IP - 29H - 1.33ERA - 2BB - 22K - .91WHIP - 2.56 GO/AO Not to shabby, not to shabby at all Edit: sfl2hnq17- alright I get what your saying and I think a bumb to BC wouldn't be so bad (even though it is not to hitter friendly) but when you said to AA that just was like, what? ha
  5. I never thought he'd be a SS nor do I hold any hope what so ever that he does move over to SS. As soon as he was drafted all I heard was how simular he was to Pedroia, every scout that I read reports on Scooter stated that he could play SS but projects much better at second base and also 2nd base was his best chance. I don't get all the fantasies of him being a SS. As Battlekow said the fact that he can't even get PT at SS for the T-Rats-a low A team with only George and Marseco ahead of him should speak loudly. Also still can't figure out how anyone can believe that Lawrie will be better served defensively at 3B than 2B? 3B is actually one of the hardest postions to play....2B is a postion you put the guys who can't handle playing SS or 3B. Doesn't add up to me
  6. I did see that but he is still having a rather quiet year for what he has been doing this year. Though I do wish the Brewers would move him off of 3B and put him back at 2B where he should be. Well who do you suggest they move off 2b? Gennett or Lawrie? He has no shot to leap those guys in my opinion and will be just spinning his wheels. 3B at least the prospects ahead of him are older and already close (Green could easily be in AAA and Gamel in the MLB). The only thing is he will never hit for the power needed for third :/ He is about the same age as Lawrie and not much older than Gennett so I just see him have any chance with the Brewers there. I do hope he keeps it up though! He has been through a lot and it is great to see him hitting so well.
  7. Oh man I hope so. Injuries, off field issue, and all those type of things really have me not to enthusiastic but I do expect our pullpen to get much younger and more talented in the next year or two. Guys like Axford and Braddock already up, Wooten once he returns from injuries (will be awhile though), Fiers (if he goes back to the pen) and Lamontagne I see as a fast riser. Jones and McClendon both have been putting up great numbers in AAA and may be able to slip into the pen (both capable of being the long reliever and eating up innings on short starts). Kintzler has been fantastic so far and hopefully that continues. Mix in Villanueva, Stetter, maybe Lofgren (if move to reliever) and some of the other guys....there is some bright spots there. Our starting pitchers are eighter still too young and have a lil while then our closer ones have injury or off field issues (Rogers still on a restricted pitch count..think 85, Rivas with tendenides, Jeffress coming off both injury and suspension, Butler injury ) and so on.
  8. Well I feel that that was pure foolishness to bring Odorizzi in as a reliever.... I know th whole peggy-back thing is in place but when have a kid who has been starting every game as of late ( last 6 and 8 of last 10), prob developed a nice routine, was growing more confident with every start along with getting strong every start, why take him back to square one? If they pull this same crap with Heckathorn I will be an an outrage.... Odorizzi and Heckathorn if not deserve a promotion at least deserve their own day in the rotation. Right now IMO the rotation should be: Heckathorn Odorizzi Bucci Lasker/Howell Arnett/Krestulude The top 3 deserve opportunities to start every game and go as long as they can... the others still need to improve and work on things (Still a Homer for Lasker though ha) Hopefully soon at least one of the two (Kyle or Jake) get moved up to open a spot for Nieves to get a few more starts. As for Lofgren.... maybe he just needs to go back to the pen. I also had a lot of hope for him and was happy when they traded to keep him but yeah he just isn't getting it done. To me it is much easier to pitch in reliever than start because if you have the stuff which he does, you can go out and just throw and hard and nasty as you want...as a starter you are limited and have to pace yourself. I'm curious if that move would indeed help and be is future spot. I'm still pulling for him not to mention that moving him out of the rotation may open the down for Rogers or Rivas!
  9. Hoffman will go down as one of the greatest closers in the history of baseball and this is really the first time he has ever faltured.... It would be pure classless of the Brewers to cut Hoffman for 2 bad months def after the sensational season he had last year (a season where he made Hell's Bells maybe the most popular ringtone in Wisconsin and had fans jazzed for Trevor Time). Suppan on the other hand got lucky by have 2 great starts to win a world series mvp.....thats it, he has offered the Brewers nothing and continues to get worse and worse and worse. I can deal and swallow down Hoffman going through a major hiccup in his otherwise outstanding career but not to watch a pitcher who just does not have what it takes to get the job done at all be marched out there to put the Brewers in a position to lose just because he has a big pay check and is good in the community. Also it really should not be hard to upgrade over Suppan... After seeing him get beat up on by a bunch of 18-20 year olds (runs not the issue but the hits...wow) for the T-Rats I think even Arnett could compete in the majors as well as Suppan is ( that is not a good thing) Like you said but in better words "a waste of a roster spot roll" he doesn't pitch much but when he does it impacts the game...negitively. That is not good! Why have a guy you know can not get outs on your roster? I have always loved Melvin but man enough is enough....I wish I could just walk into his office and drop that sports front page, Suppan must go article from JS in front of him and say it is time, swollow your pride, everyone makes mistakes just do what is best for the team. Heether best of luck!!
  10. Wisconsin: ASAP SP Heckathorn---College arm, if they were planning to fast Arnett originally, I see no reason Kyle shouldn't be the way he has come on. He his has been dominate since he has been allowed to stretch out his starts, not just ERA but all his peripherals look really nice. ( over the last 4 games that he has gone over 6 IPs) OF Davis--- comes from a college powerhouse in Cal-Fullerton and has absolutely been hitter the ball. Listening on the radio Chris was mentioning how his HR in todays game is one of the longest he has seen since 2001. Davis is an advanced hitter hence why he should be in advanced A http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif A little more time SP Odorizzi---I know many people want him up right now but IMO he still has plenty to work on with the Rattlers. While he has been very good, he has not been lights out dominating. I say let him continue to get stretched out and build up some more confidence and then bring him up. If in 4 more starts he is still pitching at this level or even higher give him the call. RP Pokorny--- Once again a college arm that has rather good this season. My guess he is the next reliever in line if BC needs to add on. Longer Shots: SP Bucci--- ERA is awesome, he is not giving up that many hits but the problem here is the walks. Until he tons that around I don't see how he can be promoted. 2B Gennett--- Hitting the crap outta the ball and has made the transition from high school ball to the midwest league seem like a piece of cake. It would be nice if he was to get the bump but with his age and defensive issues so far this season I do not see him moving up unless BC is going to the playoffs. =========================================== Brevard County ASAP Mike Fiers---He is already 25 years old and as shown plenty enough to be promoted to Huntsville. He has 60 K's through 59.1 IP a WHIP of 1.00 and a mid 3.50 ERA. No need to take it slow with him, I think he should be handled like Butler and Axford last season....move him up until he is tested. He is 100% not being tested right now. Soon Lamontagne--- Big 24 year old who pumps the ball up into the mid 90's when needed dominated with the T-Rats and if he continues to do so with BC I see no reason he shouldn't be promoted again. =============================== Huntsville ASAP Cain--- Cain hitting in AA right now challenges him as much as him hitting off a tee....it is a pure joke he is still there. The only reason I could see for it is that they want him to stay until Logan is healthy Gamel---WELCOME BACK MAT! Finally after almost a full year of waiting we are starting to see that Mat Gamel that we all love.... Now that he is swing the bat well and his shoulder is appearing to be better no need to cause a three man rotation for playing time between Green (3b,2b) Gamel (3b) Lawrie (2b).... all three need to be on the field everyday. Kintzler---The Brewers are flipping over backwards to try to find pitching and here we have a guy who has been vintage Hoffman good with outstanding control. I have never seen Kintzler throw and know if he is the real deal or if this is just a fluke but it is worth a try to see how he fairs. Soon Rivas--- Once he gets healthy and reeling again he should be considered Rogers--- Yes, already promoted but they plan to ship him right back down.... I hope does make anothertrip back to Nashville this season though. T. Green--- He still needs to get more hacks in down in Huntsville after he suffered his latest injury (doesn't appear to be bothering him to with this HR's). It is hard to see how he would fit if he was promoted to Nashville because Gamel at 3B and eventually Farris back at 2nd. Skill wise AAA is where he belongs ======================== It would be awesome to have Rivas and Rogers both in the Nashville rotation by years end to help get them ready for a run next year at a rotation spot.
  11. Outside of DSL Brewers's leadoff hitter, 2b Younki Hernandez( 3 of 5 hits), ugly hitting day for you the international Baby Crew. Pascual 5 hits and 2 ER 0BB 4K's in 2 IP... I guess that is a positive sign for him? Have seen much worse lines from him in the past but i'll take it. Can't complain about 0 BB for the bonus baby.
  12. I think Gamel will get the majority for the short period that he is still there for. He has been hitting good and don't see him being there much longer. I haven't looked at the schedule but if they have a AL Affiliate coming up my guess would be a three man platoon at 3rd 2nd and DH between Gamel, Green, and Lawrie. I really like when Green gets a chance to play second because I think once he makes it to the majors he will play both quit a bit until he has a chance to settle into one of the 2.
  13. Heckathorn first 6 games(2 starts): 1-3 W/L --19.1IP/5.18 ERA/ 7BB/ 22K/ 1.31 WHIP Heckathorn's last 4 games(4 starts): 2-0 W/L-- 27IP/1.00 ERA/2BB/19K/1.00 WHIP Pretty darn impressive 4 game stretch for Kyle! Seems that he is really settling into his starter role. Hopefully he can continue this few more outings and get promoted up to Brevard County (The Brewers appeared to have wanted to fast track Arnett but that is no longer a realistic option) mid as well sub Heckathorn for Arnett in that plan.
  14. Weeks will not be overly expensive to extend. The problem I have with him trading Rickie is when he is on, the Brewers are on, when he is off or injuried the Brewers are off. He really is the spark plug to the Crew just wish he didn't run so hot and cold and became consistant. I really think he needs to stay in a Brewer uniform. I still can't bare the thought of Lawrie becoming our future 1st baseman...that sounds about as appealing as when Nomar was an everyday 1st baseman :/ I really think that needs to figure out 2nd base and stick there or move to LF, just don't see him playing anywhere else. I do often forget that he is only 20 though... plenty of time to improve
  15. I'm pretty high on HS 3B Nick Castellanos
  16. Hey Colby, a little of topic but what do you think of Bryce's teammate and older brother Bryan Harper as a pitcher? Decent prospect? What kind of stuff?
  17. My guess is that Jeffress probably picked up his little 'habit' once he got rich overnight. He may have dabbled a bit in H.S., but with the long bus trips, Day's Inns, etc. he probably had a lot of free time and extra cash to get into trouble. Plus when you get rich quick, you tend to have a lot of new 'friends' pounding down your door. I'd disagree he probably smoked bunch in high school. Usually a person doesn't turn to pot because they got rich but to something more like cocaine or harder, something used for partying and having a good time....something that is the exact opposite affect of weed. My guess is Jeffress eighter just hungout out with a bad group of guys and just felt all the pressure of being the star basketball and baseball player in his town. Eighter way, I see it as an non issue...doesn't seem to affect the worlds great swimmer, the winner of the last two NL Cy Youngs, almost the whole NBA, super bowl 2009's MVP, and many many many more... If they can play they can play, I rather have them smokin weed than being on harder drugs or having real, much more serious off field issues
  18. ? isn't that the plan already? Beside of the facts that he said in the article that the pullpen is the best for him and that the Brewers feel that bullpen is best for him but he could be our closer for a long time to come. If you haven't noticed this season, having a good closer is kind of important... He could be a good above average starter or a great, shut down reliever/closer. I pray that the plan is to keep him in the bullpen. I know it is fun to try to poke fun at Macha for him favoring old guys or how destroys young players but personally I think Zito (25-28), Hudson (27-28), Mulder (25-26), Duchscherer (25-28), Harden (21-24), Haren (22-25), Blanton (22-25), Streets (21-22) and many of his other young pitchers turned out just fine and somehow got there rolls over 30 year olds with over 5 years of sevice time. Have to realize that he isn't the one who signed Suppan, Davis, Wolf, Hoffman, Hawkins, Vargas or any of the other old guys and really doesn't have much choice. Melvin is the one with all the power.
  19. I'm not overly concerned about Macha and Braddock, if you remember Macha and Peterson developed some very nice major league pitchers from the time they broke into the majors to the time they became stars in the AL. It is position players he has never had a good connection with or known how to handle very well.
  20. That is EXACTLY what happened...Wow that is aweful... Could you imagine what that would be like and the emotional rollercoster? I hope he takes it in stride and it doesn't affect him at all on the mound. I say this because this was suppose to be the day he has waited for his whole life, he gets to the airport, butterflies in his stomach and just pure excited that he about to be a major league player and DM gives him a call right before boarding the plain, "Hey sorry, you will no longer be promoted, keep working hard and hopefully you will be up soon" type of ordeal. Talk the disappointment, man that would be a kick to the nuts. The one thing I can't figure out is who was he going to replace because it was 100% not Stern nor was it Zaun?! How could this not of happened just because Lucroy came up for Zaun? I get that Lucroy took Riske spot on the 40 man roster but if they were really about to demote someone in the bullpen for him, you'd think they would have made it happen still. I really want to know who he was replacing and now we will never know! I personally feel Cruz and Heether are expandable from the 40 man and Soup once again showed how worthless he is again tonight. Quick question for ya aintbize if your willing to answer... How exactly do you know Braddock? Same town, high school friend, college friend, family friend, or etc. I am just curious because you always have insider type info on all his threads over the past few years. If you don't want't to answer thats fine also.
  21. I agree with Adams and Fredrickson but I think there is still a little hope for Lintz... If you think about it he is like 20 and would be a junior in college. So for a 20 year old draft eligable college player starting out in Helena is pretty much the norm and not a bad thing. I think he is still young enough to get back on a good track, he just needs to learn how to get the ball over the plate. This season will be his sink or swim year I believe. If he can come out and have a really good season at Helena (I hope he is good enough to make the roster or all hope is gone if he is in Arizona for a 3rd straight year) then I think he could be back on track of being a prospect again, if not the like you said we can just write him off. Stats over 2 years in Rookie ball --- Has a 10.3 K/9 ratio (67k's in 58.2 IP), gaves up a few to many homers (8) but only gives up 8.7 H/9 (not to bad lower than what Odorizzi's was) It is the 8.3 BB/9 (54 balls in 58.2 IP) 18 wild pitches, and 10 hit batters that are killing him and his chance, he cuts those down he still could be a nice prospect. As for Arnett it is nice to hear he was toping out at 97 mph sucks that he has no move ment on it. On a positive note Heckathorn has really got going
  22. I really wanted Trout but the Angels snatched him right before our pick. I never was high on Arnett and didn't really like the pick as much as everyone but I never thought he'd struggle this bad! I hope he can pull it together and soon
  23. Kottaras and his 1.035 OPS would beg to differ.Yeah, I'm not saying he has been bad but he hasn't been so good they haven't been able to take him out of the lineup. I actually really like Kotteras and enjoy him in the lineup but Lucroy I think will still be in the lineup 2-3 times a week until Zahn is back. Yeah my time table is a little bit off on McGehee but he was still getting games at third. Gamel should have gotten top priority, def after some of those few big games he had but that is nothing new for Macha. One of his biggest knocks in Oakland was that he did not do a good job with young position players (with the pitching prospects spoon feed to him it would have been near impossible to screw that up). I can't recall the last time I have seen someone so demoralized after big league stint. He went from being one of the hottest bats in AA (2008) and the first month and a half in AAA (2009) in all of the minors to complete falling off the table and fliping 180 degrees. He was a completely different player. Hope Macha wouldn't make that mistake again ]
  24. I think Vargas needs to be DFA, he just hasn't got his job done and the Brewers are to cheap to DFA Suppan because of the money they have invested into him. Cruz and Heether really don't need spots on the 40-man roster
  25. Man only if Wooten was healthy, we could have seen Axford, Braddock, and him all up sometime this season and got a nice glimpse of our actual home grown future bullpen not to forget if Fiers was kept in the bullpen he could have made a fast rise (as a starter still has a shot to make a Butler type jump i believe based on his performance and age) I'd love a bullpen that is inexpensve, home grown, and gets the job done. I have a ton of confidence in Axford, Braddock, Wooten, Villanueva, Stetter, and I am a homer for Jones (just can't stop believing in him) then McClendon and Kintzler are two that are catching my eye right now. I am really excited for Braddock, I just hope he can cut out those massive blow out innings from last season, AFL, the one game this year. He is so good for so many games but then he will get absolutely shelled, go back to not giving up any runs or hits for another 10 games, then blow up. He he can limit those in the majors I have no doubt that we are looking at a very good closer for years to come!
