  1. I'm interested.....is there any way we can keep the league to only regular posters here? I'd like to play, as long as everyone agrees I have enough posts.
  2. Although I am someone who hardly knew who Dick Allen was prior to reading the Hall of Fame trial, I am convinced that he belongs. A period of dominance of ten years is enough in my mind to say that a player belongs in the Hall. In fact, how can you keep someone out that was one of the three best players at his position (or in Mr. Allen's case, positions) for a ten year period?
  3. The Carlos Lee assessment was extremely short sighted. Carlos had one of, if not the, lowest OBP season of the past four years in 2005. He still had great power numbers. The lesson is that only looking at this one years' OBP fails to account for the three good years previously.
  4. It also has Jeter listed at 7th. I'd agree with Casey, ZR or UZR are a much better stat defensively than is RF. It has Eckstein at 16th and Jeter at 19th. I admit that I am not a person that is as absorbed by statistics as others on this site, although I do appreciate the good arguments advanced by those who statistically-inclined. However, I am highly suspicious of the Zone Rating statistic which depends upon the subjective determinations of of a particular fielder's "area of responsibility". For a definition of ZR see www.baseball-almanac.com/stats3.shtml
  5. rluz, thank you for taking the time to post your probability analysis. It is a lot of fun to look at this each morning and find a justification for my wish for the Brewers to finish above .500 and, who knows, win as many as 84-85 games. Please keep up the good work if you have time. Great performance by Capuano last night in getting out of a few jams and cooling off the D'Backs bats.
  6. Cactus League Nachos It's' funny that you mention the Cactus League Nachos. They are the only reason my wife agrees to go to games with me. I like the chances for tonight. This rookies' rookie will be on the road back to triple A by the third inning.
  7. Yes Mark A was at the game. He old the JS that he was giddy as a school girl in the 9th and at the end of the game. He also he is beaming. Please tell me he did not actually use the words "giddy as a school girl" in the interview.
  8. It's definitly your day when your relief pitcher gets a RBI!!!
  9. While I don't think I would say this is a must win. This game would sure be nice to win for the sake of saying that the Brewers have split or won their last four series, three of which were on the road. (Do I have that right?) I always like the team's chances with Capuano on the mound. In order to win, however, Carlos needs to start hitting.
  10. Have fun rwa12!!! My weather report shows scattered t-storms which means that it might rain a little then stop. It does not look like a sustained rain that will postpone the game entirely.
  11. Favorite Haiku so far: Wes wants to be fit? There's one way to assure it. One donut per hit. Chris Capuano Left handed, but right minded Will strike out nine fish. (I just want the bat splintered into thousand shards Who's Jason Belcher? http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif )
  12. Since everyone likes to make predictions on this thread before the game, I thought I'd join in. Milwaukee 8, Minnesota 3. Davis goes into the seventh inning, giving up only one run and Lee and Jenks both hit homers. After the game, perceptions of the squad will change and the bitter pessimism of the past week will be replaced by an unbridled optimism. The Jenkins bashers will become Jenkins lovers and the complaining majority will all have smiles on their faces. Butch's job will remain safe and Ned will win over our hearts with some brilliant in-game strategy. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/happy.gif . Chad Moeller will still suck.
  13. How about some optimism? The Brewers haven't done much to deserve it lately, but this is as good a time as any to turn it around a little bit. I am looking for the Caballo and Geoff to have good games today. Carlos is a lifetime .304 BA against Radke and Jenks is 5/14 lifetime. The interesting thing about Radke is that he seems to perform equally against righties and lefties this year. The BAA for righties is .268 and the BAA for lefties is .264. If the 3-4 hitters can put it together in the same inning a few times, the Brewers could be allright, just as long as DD keeps the ball in the park of course.
  14. I'd also rather see Branyan at third just so we can get Hall into the lineup.
  15. One guy to look for in this series is Jason Lane who is finally playing up to the hype. He has been playing very well so far. Some stats so far this year: Hr 4 Avg. .352 RBI. 11 SB 4 Note however, no hits in 13 at bats against lefties. Not bad for a guy that, aside from Berkman's injury, might not even be an everyday player.
  16. That was a frustrating waste of an afternoon. Damian Miller looking at strike three with an O-2 count? Pathetic...
  17. UNBELIEVABLE!!!!!! This is just unbelievable. It is as if the Brewers fear any kind of success. Walks, passed balls and stupid fielding should cost you the game every time
  18. Ben Sheets will get a standing ovation from me in Section 225 whether or not anyone joins me.
  19. I am very excited as this will be my first game of the season in attendance. I am loath to make a prediction based on the Brewers recent track record with me in attendance. I just hope they make a good game of it. I love April baseball where the games mean something to a fan of the Brewers and there is still hope. Over the past 12 years, as a Brewer fan, April baseball has to me what October baseball has been to a Yankee fan. Go Brewers!!! By the way, the first place Brewers magic number stands at 153...
  20. Sheets is only getting 25 pitches? I guess that should be enough for three or four innings...http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/roll.gif
  21. I really enjoyed Bill and Daron's call the other day. They kept it very light which is fine with me considering the fact that this is ST and the games don't matter much. It was nice hearing Uke and Jim yesterday as well. Other than the cold rain and college basketball, it's begining to feel like summer around here. It seems as if the Brewers have put up quite a few runs in their first four games. I know, small sample, but encouraging nonetheless esp. considering that traditionally, pitchers have a slight advantage over hitters at the beginning of ST. (I am willing to exploit any positive to fuel my optimism.)
  22. It was a lot of fun hearing from the new owner (although Darron seemed to be fawning on Mr. A a little much, maybe in the hope of permanent job security.) Is this mlb.com feed going to run throughout spring training for all brewer games because this is great?
  23. If the Crew is above .500 after July, they are definetely for real. How many times are we going to move the bar? At the end of September we are probably going to have people saying things like 'if the Brewers win more games than every other team in their division, win the NLDS, win the NLCS and beat the AL foe four times in the World Series, then they are for real...'
  24. I am going to have to agree with the people who advocate giving Pod a day or two off. While I did not see today's game, he has looked bad at the plate over the past week or two swinging at pitches that are clearly out of the strike zone. He's been chopping at pitches above his head. He is definitely one of the most exciting players in the National League but everyone in any job goes into a slump every now and then and needs a chance to recover. Congratulations to the Brewers for their third straight series victory. Let's keep it going against the Twins!!!
  25. The brewers are going to get swept by the Angels....that's my prediction. Thanks for your opinion backed by no facts and not even any argument. This is a really helpful prediction...very insightful. It's too bad everyone on this message board doesn't have the amazing power of logic that this prediction expresses. *Is this enough sarcasm?*
