  1. Bradley really struggled to move/possess the ball against Ghana; my father was watching the game with me (this was the first full soccer game he'd ever watched) and even asked me what was going on with him. Johansson didn't really make himself known; I don't know what his game is but he has been quite successful for AZ. They can't play like that against Portugal and expect to advance to the round of 16. Chile-Spain should be interesting; Spain likely need three points out of that game to advance given the goal differential situation (though they could always pummel Australia). I'll be pretty surprised if the Dutch have any trouble today.
  2. Now, US just need to beat Ghana to be in great position. Unfortunately, that isn't easy.
  3. No logged in, but over MLB history, worst rates for single season with >80 ip: 2.66 2.55 2.52 2.46 (Estrada) 2.41 Not sure who 1,2,3,5 are but if those guys played in the McGwire Bonds years, Marco's mark is even more impressive.
  4. Estrada 23 Miley 16 Nicasio 15 McCarthy 14 Price 13 Blyleven gave up 50 in 271 innings. Estrada has brown about 80 innings.
  5. I use my Roku and I usually get a very good, clean stream. I've never had trouble with my iPad, but their Android app seems to be pretty buggy.
  6. Segura is now in the bottom 10 of qualified MLB players in wRC+ at 63. His approach is just painful to watch right now.
  7. I won't be surprised if the Pirates remain in wild-card contention; the third/fourth best records in the NL right now belong to Washington (33-29) and Atlanta (33-29), and basically a glob of about seven teams within a few games.
  8. FWIW, Dave Cameron did a quick analysis of how the real-life "replacement" guys seem to perform a while back: http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/the-recent-examples-of-a-replacement-level-player/ They've got an average batting line of .233/.289/.365/.644 (wRC+ = 78) with poor defense, which seems pretty reasonable. That said, most of these guys seem to be more of the Mark Reynolds tier (established players who likely win a spot during spring training) as opposed to the next-in-line call-ups like your Herrera and Falu types.
  9. I thought UZR had made a shift-adjustment by now; IIRC he posted some absurd defensive numbers (something of the magnitude of 2-3 dWAR) his first couple of years but now when I look it up, he only has a +6.2 UZR/150 in his career at 3B.
  10. But going forward, what should be expected out of Adam Dunn? I'm inclined to believe he projects to be closer to his 2012-13 production levels than his 2014 level. However, a Dunn/Reynolds platoon would be pretty productive I'd imagine. Reynolds career platoon split LHP/RHP (wRC+) is 119/103, while Dunn's is 103/132. Plus, swapping Overbay out for the platoon partner would make for a nice late-game PH option. It's really just a matter of cost though, and I have no clue what the market for a guy like Adam Dunn is right now.
  11. No, I didn't include those guys because they aren't really part of the back/forth to MLB cycle, they have clearly defined roles on the team and were expected to get significant playing time before the season started.
  12. I'd expect Dunn to be somewhat more productive at the plate. Just looking at what they've done from 2012 - 2014 Dunn: .215/.333/.458/.791 Reynolds: .219/.316/.416/.732 That said, given his defensive issues (even compared to Reynolds who I think has looked surprisingly good defensively at 1B), I'm not sure I see any value here unless the White Sox picked up almost all of his contract.
  13. Of course they shouldn't be expected to be good, I'm mostly just curious to how this compares to other teams around the league. This may be typical, it just struck me as a surprisingly bad slash line even for these types of players (basically, the real-life replacement players). I wasn't looking at Maldonado (and really I shouldn't include Overbay) because I think most thought they'd have a bigger role than just injury fill-ins.
  14. I'm not sure how these numbers compare to other teams, but I've been thinking about how it seems like the Brewers' bottom position players/25th guys on the roster have been brutal this season. Here's the composite line for Falu-Herrera-Gindl-Schafer-Bianchi: 232 PA's, .176/.240/.225/.465, -3.88 WAR/600 PA's If you include Overbay, this "improves" to: 373 PA's, .192/.264/.256/.520, -3.06 WAR/600 PA's.
  15. Segura Braun Lucroy Gomez Ramirez Davis Weeks Reynolds Gallardo That's a nice looking lineup.
  16. Still don't love Segura hitting 1st, but that 2 - 5 in the lineup ought to be really tough to navigate. Not sure why Davis needs a day off here for a guy like Schafer with his career .214/.285/.330 line, hopefully it is just a scheduled day off and nothing more.
  17. Try to just mooch a Charter or AT&T or Time Warner (really I think any cable company these days) password off of a friend or family member. You can get a Roku for something like $50 and then stream ESPN in pretty good quality (mine is probably like 720p) on your TV.
  18. Weeks needs to average 3.05 PA's per game the rest of the season to reach his 400 PA's on the season. So it likely won't happen unless the wheels fall off with Gennett. Weeks is sporting a nice .404 BABIP this season, so going forward there's really not much reason to think he's anything more than the .230/.310/.400 type of hitter as Briggs suggested, although probably a bit better as the right hand in the platoon.
  19. So if I'm looking at this correctly, I have: 2014: $1.5 (minimum-0) for half the season 2015: $2 (minmum-1) 2016: $2 (minimum-2) 2017: $2 (minimum-3) 2018: $2 (Arb-1) 2019: $2.5 (Arb-2) with $250K buyout 2020: $5 (Arb-3) with $500K buyout 2021: $13 (FA) with $500K buyout So if Singleton is horrible, they're on the hook for $10.5 million, while if he produces, they'll get eight seasons for $30M (really less in PV terms because it's so backloaded). This seems like a smart deal for both sides; risk is transferred from the player to the franchise, and the franchise in all likelihood gets a pretty good deal here.
  20. It's sort of curious that Carlos Gomez is 6th in voting while Braun is 3rd. Gomez has been one of the ten or fifteen best position players in MLB this season. You could legitimately make the argument that Gomez is a top 3 NL outfielder (Stanton, Puig, Gomez) this season and Lucroy has been the best catcher in the NL.
  21. Yovani Gallardo's career batting line: .204/.232/.353/.575 in 424 PA's, 51 wRC+ Jeff Bianchi's career batting line: .214/.249/.281/.530 in 386 PA's, 42 wRC+ The walk to Reynolds is understandable; I haven't thought through the numbers myself but I don't think it was that silly just because of his HR%. What really would have made this great is if they would have walked a Maldonado or Bianchi type.
  22. Same here...luckily I only lose Baltimore and Washington here. When I lived in Iowa, I couldn't watch Milwaukee, Chicago Cubs, Chicago White Sox, Twins, Royals, or Cardinals. Carlos Gomez is having an exceptional couple of years.
  23. Anybody know when the club expects Ramirez to be back? Overbay at 1B is pretty painful...
  24. Weeks got grilled pretty good by the Pirates' announcers. Having listened to a few innings, they're really irritating to listen to.
