  1. Well that's disappointing news for Orioles fans on Valencia with their stretch-run coming up...
  2. It is curious. I suspect that much of it has to do with the Miami connection to the Caribbean and Braun's connection to Miami. Further, if I were living in the DR and I could significantly raise my chances of getting out of poverty, feeding my family, etc., I'd be juicing up with whatever questionable stuff I can get my hands on. The economic incentives faced by players from the DR (or even very poor inner-city Americans) are different than those faced by middle-upper class folks when it comes to PEDs, so it shouldn't be surprising if the adherence rate is different between these groups.
  3. No, that's my mistake -- he never explicitly admitting to PED usage. I'd seen his admission of PED usage referred to in a few articles, but Braun never did explicitly lay it out. I still don't see any other way to interpret his comments as anything other than a usage admission.
  4. E) Braun held a press conference where he admitted to using PED's. Edit: Didn't explicitly admit usage.
  5. Yeah, but that's just like, your opinion, man.
  6. Mike Trout turns 23 on Wednesday. Mike Trout ranks 12th in WAR in the 2010's. Mike Trout has been in the majors for only about half of the games in the 2010's. He's posting a 175 wRC+ this season. Last season he posted a 166 wRC+. He hits for average. He hits for power. He fields a difficult position well. He's a great baserunner. This season, he's struck out in 17% of PA's and walked in 13% of PA's. However much faith you put in advanced metrics shouldn't even influence how awesome you think he is. Any way you slice it, he's simply a phenomenal player. I know he plays on the West Coast, but I need to find more time to watch this guy play. He's probably one of the 5 or so best players in MLB history through age 22. I think it's time to sit back and enjoy watching what this kid can do. I've had enough of this Biogenesis crap.
  7. I've got 400:1 on Scooter Gennett.
  8. Time Warner Cable makes it really easy to not be tempted to subscribe to cable TV.
  9. I suspect the same of Attanasio. I suspect the talent distribution in MLB makes that type of attitude far more likely to lead to a championship than in the NBA. Teams who are consistently between 5th and 15th level in the NBA rarely win a championship, while in MLB it happens fairly often and will only be more common with the new playoff system. Basically, I think the attitude of "just try to get into the playoffs" makes far more sense in MLB than the NBA. Edit: Wow that sounds scatterbrained. Time to get a pint...
  10. Doubt it. Yuni plays for the Royals in even-numbered years, and the Brewers in odd-numbered years. It's a gentleman's agreement that neither team should have to go more than a season without some Yuni.
  11. Hellweg walked 13 batters in 10.2 innings. He's walking more than 5 per inning in AAA. Letting Hellweg drop a few games in Milwaukee did not hurt the team this year, but I imagine they don't want to see one of their better prospects continue to get lit-up in the major leagues. I think it's clear from his time in the majors and in AAA that he has some things he needs to work on before coming up again (save for a September call-up), so I just don't see the need to put him back into the rotation.
  12. The Yankees stand to save something like $100 million off the A-Rod contract. So yeah, it shouldn't shock anybody if there's a strong push to ban A-Rod for a long time from somebody with $100,000,000 to gain. I don't think that even counts as a conspiracy theory.
  13. At least for this season, it seems like a good idea to give him 10-20 games at 1B and another 20-30 at C. A lot of this just depends on how well Lucroy can handle playing 1B on some of his "off" days. I don't think there's any reason to move him to 1B long term, but if the Brewers have a 1B situation like they do this year it might be a good idea to go something like 120 C/30 1B rather than just starting him for 130-135 games at C. But, a lot of this just depends on who they pick up to play 1B next season. If they sign a player who really only plays 1B and is at least a solid hitter, then there probably isn't a lot of value gained from moving Lucroy to 1B for 20-30 games. I don't think 3B is an option, as I'm skeptical of Lucroy's ability to learn 3B quickly and play the position well.
  14. FACT: YUNI HAS HIT 79 HOME RUNS SINCE 2005. ICHIRO HAS HIT FEWER. HE IS A HOFER. TRANSITIVE PROPERTY OF HOME RUNS --> YUNI IS A HOFER QED, NERDS. GO BACK TO YOUR MOMMIES BASEMENTS AND TRY AND LEARN HOW TO PLAY BASEBALL.
  15. Morris isn't even putting up a league-average line in AAA this season, his OBP is barely north of .300. Unless he goes on a serious tear for the next 60 games, I don't consider him a reasonable option as the starting 1B next season. If Gamel is healthy, I think it's worth giving him a shot so long as Hart won't come back on the cheap. I personally wouldn't be opposed to moving Braun to 1B for the rest of his career, but I doubt that will happen.
  16. It's been a loooong road to the majors for Rob Wooten. I remember watching his domination in the lower minors and then his lost season (don't remember what he injured - maybe TJ?). Glad to see him finally get his shot and get a big W.
  17. Nine players on the roster were born in Latin America, including Segura, Peralta, and Gomez. I think they can communicate with Yuni just fine. I'd love to have Yuni teaching Gomez and Segura his time-tested approach at the plate.
  18. Lucroy also has about 300 fewer PAs than Molina, Posey, and Mauer over that time, so while he's definitely behind those guys, he might be closer than that chart indicates. It's incredible that this team has a C, SS, and CF who all project to put up around a 115-120 wRC+ signed to team friendly deals, but the rest of the club has so many holes...
  19. Manny Ramirez, ARod's first deal, Carlos Beltran, Todd Helton (probably)... Those probably all count too. Helton's AAV was only about $13.5 million on the deal so maybe that one doesn't fit in, but it was one of the largest ever at the time. Not sure if Beltran is quite in the $ range we're talking about here either. Jeter's 10 year/$189 million deal probably fits in here as well, when off-the-field revenue considerations are made. Just looking at the list of largest contracts, I'd say 80% are unquestionably regrettable.
  20. Cabrera and Sabathia have both performed up to or over their contracts. Hard for me to think of many others off the top of my head. The Pujols contract is the worst in baseball and it isn't even close. They'd better hope he shows up in some clinic's PED docs!
  21. No, it's a half decade of horrible baseball that built this reputation.
  22. Hey Yuni B heating up, probably can ship him to the Royals for a few of their top prospects in a few days...
  23. Yuni is having one of the worst seasons in recent memory. That is something worth watching as far as I'm concerned!
  24. There are Yuniesky Betancourts in every industry. Can we please get back to bashing Yuni round these parts? I miss those days...
