  1. I still have a Pavel Bure #10 "Skate Logo" jersey from my younger years. Actually I snatched it on eBay for like $25 after he became a Ranger. As for home ice advantage, I agree with trwi for the most part, but Luongo is a nut job and I think there has been something too that. Overall I don't think the Canucks have been 14 goals worse than the Bruins in those three games outside of Luongo v. Thomas. Thomas has been excellent and Luongo has been embarrassingly abysmal. All I can say now is that this at least better be a fun game, and the Canucks better pull it out in the end. I'd hate to see 82 games of dominance be forgotten because of a terrible 7-game series.
  2. Narveson has really been good this year, and his peripherals are outstanding. Here's to hoping he continues his recent strong performances.
  3. How about "The Pewter Lining"? I guess Pewter isn't necessarily a bad thing, so perhaps "The Sewage Lining", but that doesn't really make one think "silver lining". "The Sulfur Lining". There, I think that works.

  5. I think there's a lot to that sentiment. Baseball is such an old school machismo culture, new ideas and methods are extremely difficult to sell, even if they are clearly better than the old ones. There's a reason that MLB front offices have been trending away from ex-players in the past decade.
  6. Well, I guess I can't say you're not correct... (hint: Zach Greinke is .307)
  7. I agree that the problem is more Roenicke than the bullpen. Hawkins is a solid, dependable reliever and he went a week without being used. I don't expect anything better than a ~3.50 from him from here on out, but that's worthy of getting some important innings. Braddock is not a LOOGY, but he's been used as one. Last night in the 8th, the batters coming up were Fukudome (L), Castro ®, Ramirez ®, Pena (L), DeWitt (L). That's LRRLL. Would he even use Braddock for an LRL at this point?
  8. I'd like to see a Brewerfan poll as follows: Which manager would you rather see in charge of the Brewers? 0 Ned Yost 0 Ron Roenicke
  9. Here's another thing I don't understand. Shouldn't an old-school manager love a grizzled, classy veteran who has a 0.55 ERA in 16.1 innings this year? I mean, what the heck is Roenicke evaluating pitchers based on? It's obviously not SABR stats, and it doesn't seem to be an old school ERA approach either. Shoe size? Height? I'm really curious.
  10. Even if Hawkins is hurt, Roenicke has Braddock, and even Dillard.
  11. Is Roenicke worse than Yost? I mean, he hasn't done the Brian Shouse/Ryan Howard type move yet, but at this point I think his day to day management is worse. Yost was not a good manager, but Roenicke is just horrendous.
  12. The problem isn't the second and third best relievers in the bullpen, it's the guy managing the team. Braddock and Hawkins are on this team, they just don't get to pitch in these situations. This is the time when you need a grinder, a pitcher who knows how to give you professional pitches. A real winner. Remember, it isn't about how many runs you give up, it's about how you give them up.
  13. Roenicke'd. Marco freakin' Estrada. Not used tonight: Zach Braddock, Latroy Hawkins. I'm officially in Fire Ron Roenicke camp.
  14. Wow, my audio lag must suck. I'm assuming Loe pitches the 8th?
  15. Hopefully Cirillo can take Bill's place sooner than later. For a bit of nostalgia, check out Cirillo's line from 1996-2001: .317/.387/.464/.851 Just a great pure hitter for those six years. 10th in the majors in batting average over that time period out of players with >2000 PA's. Nothing to shake a stick at!
  16. Lol, some people are so stupid.I never thought I'd say it, but I'm happy Roenicke was hired rather than Brenly. Brenly is like Roenicke but also a complete tool.
  17. This is the type of game where I can see the Brewers losing 4-3. Probably just too many bad memories from the past, but I just can't stand when this team has so many runners on and can't score more than a few runs.
  18. Let's play a game: What are the following numbers? .149, .162, .178, .182, .200, .307
  19. I've really got no serious complaints about this lineup. I'd rather see McGehee moved down for a while, but meh. I guess Hart would look pretty darn good in that 5-hole.
  20. I don't have a problem if Lucroy has to pinch hit on his days off, it's playing catcher for multiple innings on his days off that cannot be good for him in the long run.
  21. Nobody in this thread is saying anything like that. Straw men burn quickly, no? The point of this thread is that Nieves is horrible and a lot of things could be fixed by calling up Kottaras. The point is that Lucroy should not be playing this much, as Kottaras or even Rivera could be a competent backup catcher who starts 2 days a week.
  22. Yeah, the weather's a bit rough, but everything else down here is great. I had Mother Earth's Weeping Willow Wit last night and I thought it was very well done. Not a style I usually dig but in the heat down here I've grown to like Kolsch, Wit, and non-West Coast APA's a lot more. Lots of moderation in this beer; coriander and orange zest flavors are mild, a light refreshing sweetness balanced by a nice wheat tartness on the finish. Not awesome, but certainly commendable. Also, a nifty article on Mariners reliever Chris Ray, who seems to be a big beer geek. He's currently brewing an IPA aged on Louisville Slugger maple which will be sold at an upcoming home game. Pretty neat to see a ballplayer who is interested in beer. http://www.washingtonbeer...relief-pitchers-of-beer/
