  1. Yeah, to me the question is basically asking do you want to win a world series or not, and again to me, the answer is obvious. I feel a better question would be win the world series this year and suck the next 9, or be competitive the next 10 with unknown results for those 10 years. If you want to define competitive, your 'b' qualifiers, minus the not winning it all, would be pretty good and in that case I would probably choose b.
  2. Coinciding with the badgers bad season, I didn't pay much attention outside of a handful of games past the first 10 or so, so I have no idea about anything. In fact this will be the first year in about 20 that I'm not doing a bracket, even a personal one. But I'm kinda curious what people think of the bracket, like how well they did, since I didn't watch any bracket shows this year.
  3. I did miss where you talked about injury, but that was only half of my worst case scenario. He certainly has the ability, currently(by which I mean last year since we haven't even seen him in spring training this year), to pitch like a #3 for the next 3 years, but to say his floor, barring injury, is a #3 for the next 3 years just doesn't make sense.
  4. Your worst case is more like mild case. Worst case is he bombs or gets a career ending injury and they are paying him 75 mil for 3 years.
  5. No. A player can now only get one QO in their life.
  6. Found this quote on ESPN. Seems to imply it should get easier on his back when he gets comfortable. I guess we just have to wait and see. "So, generally, you're putting your back in more vulnerable positions, which for me is a challenge," he said. "My back is the biggest thing healthwise I've focused on for a few years now. ... I think in the long run I have no doubt first base would be easier. But to this point, it's definitely been a lot harder on my back than the outfield was, so we'll see."
  7. I thought that was his nickname from last year during the stupid nickname jersey weekend Yeah. Its what the team called him last year because of how he looks when he runs. Found this in an interview with rosiak in the JS last summer. Q. Another one of your talents is your famous "raptor" run. Where did that come from? A. Really, it started with Tim Dillard. I have a pretty slouched run, and so he kept on saying I ran like a raptor. Then every time I'd do sprints near the relievers where he'd be stretching, he'd just go, "Rawwwwwwwwwr!" Eventually he had me come in as a Dubsmash guest and do the raptor runs in the background, and I guess it just took off. Then last year Mike (Vassallo, Brewers senior director, media relations) asked me what I wanted my music to be and I was like, "I don't really care." He goes, " 'Jurassic Park' theme song all right?" And I was like, "OK." (laughs) That's how it happened, pretty much."
  8. I decided not to tape yesterday's game while I was at work, so today's lineup is a bit of a disappointment for my first spring action. Guessing the angels stadium is a longer travel so the vets get to stay home?
  9. Man, if sanctions come quick enough we may end up in the ncaa tourney yet!
  10. Team usa 3 team canada 0 Woman's hockey for gold, men's curling to go to the gold medal game, and woman's team pursuit for bronze. Suck it canada!
  11. https://nypost.com/2018/02/21/mlb-responds-to-insane-rich-eisen-rule-that-would-make-yankees-deadly/amp/ Basically, if you're down in the ninth you can leadoff with any 3 batters is the thought, by an "MLB exec", with the reasoning I think it's kind of ridiculous and am glad MLB isn't considering it, though it would increase the value of closers emensly, always facing the other teams 3 best players in the ninth. Plus brady, and other star qbs, do sit on the sideline with the game on the line when their defense is on the field trying to close it out.
  12. For me its that the choice of picking the side of the owners and players is a false dichotomy. I choose the side of the fan. I want my team to be able to be competitive and be able to go to a game without taking out a mortgage. Paying aging free agents exhorbinant amounts of money does not make either of those possible.
  13. "You don't want to make a living or habit out of trying to solve your problems with high-price pitching free agents because over the long run there's so much risk involved that you really can hamstring your organization,' Epstein said. "But we have a lot of players who have reasonable salaries who contribute an awful lot who might put us in a positon to consider it going forward and in the future. "It's not our preferred method. We would prefer to make a small deal and find another Jake Arrieta, but you can't do that every year, either." So basically we don't want to sign a high priced guy vs we wanted the high priced darvish all along.
  14. My definition would be a 1 or 2 on a playoff team. Reason i go with 2 is because most 2s would be 1s on many teams.
  15. I think they have to say occasionally with thames and aguilar still on the roster.
  16. Initial thought for why would be comfort level. A lesser defender in his normal spot might be better then a better defender who is "out of position".
  17. They may want him back, but maybe they feel darvish is better, and they get a draft pick if someone else signs arrieta, and so they are focusing on him instead. If darvish signs elsewhere and the cubs then continue to ignore arrieta, then I would be worried about signing him.
  18. Brewerfan be like
  19. Record broken
  20. Not nothing, just page 54. The waiting is painful, though kinda fun.
  21. Did you factor in the world series opportunities?(totally not putting this in blue even though I should)
  22. No they definitely do not. Especially at the higher end. I'm wondering if maybe Stearns might think we have enough, not for a playoff run, but to get us to the all-star break where we will have Nelson back(and hopefully pitching like last year) and can trade for a top end pitcher. I don't know if it would work, but it would be the lowest risk move as I can see it.
  23. Meaning that the fan spent more money than they ever have before = they are making more money. That still just means sales were up 16%. It is a little misleading, but may not be wrong that they made more. More info is needed. A comparison to next year would be interesting. They also said they got 6k more fans entering 2 hours before the game than normal which they attribute to the lower food costs, but could be attributed to the new stadium effect and also increase food sales which might not be sustainable in subsequent years. And they said merchandise sales were up 88%, which they didn't directly relate to the lower concession prices, but implied when they said trickle down, and that could be attributed to being fresh off a super bowl appearance plus new stadium and drawing in more of the casual fan wanting to buy new gear. All in all, this year as a whole was probably more profitable, but more data is needed.
