  1. @Haudricourt: Houston reliever Chad Qualls claimed by unnamed club according to @Ken_Rosenthal. I know #Brewers have had interest in him. I am not sure what we would have to give - but not all that exciting either.
  2. UZR factors in errors into the equation though. My point is 10 of his 26 errors were on the fielding end. Thus a move to 1B wouldn't automatically render him the worst 1B in the league. IMO
  3. But the unfortunate part is of all the guys who could make a difference - none of them will fall to us in the waivers. Our chance was in July. So don't get your hopes up on us being able to acquire someone.
  4. Ah- got ya. Yes, I agree. He should be left in the rotation and Nelson should be pulled.
  5. I think that is some pretty selective memory going on here. http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/b/braunry02-field.shtml As you can see Braun had 10 fielding errors and 16 throwing errors. Yes, he only played 113 games (But if you take the ratio of (10/113)*150 games - he would average out to 13 fielding errors of a year. Yes, that would equate to Prince's worst year - but I would imagine an athlete like Braun would get better over time, and not worse like Prince. Also, Yuni had 10 fielding errors in 2011 and he had absolutely no range. None. If I had tape of all 10 fielding errors Braun made at 3rd, I would like to see how many of those were "errors" but his speed / quickness got him to the ball where Yuni would have just watched it bounce to left field and not received the wonderful E on the score card. Yuni - http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/b/betanyu01-field.shtml Prince - http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/f/fieldpr01-field.shtml
  6. I just don't see RRR taking two guys coming back from injury (Lohse and Garza) and give them only 4 days rest between starts. He already Garza is part of his 5 man rotation when he returns. And he specifically mentioned 5 man rotation. Here is what I see happening: Lohse pitches tonight, followed by Nelson, Gallardo, Peralta, and then Fiers. Garza is scheduled for a full bullpen Session on Tuesday 8/26. He will then go down and do 1 re-hab stint in the minors this weekend. After that he will be inserted into Nelson's spot for the game vs St. Louis at Miller Park on Saturday Sept 6th. (Nelson's spot in the order. Nelson will then go to the pen) Rotation to close the year will line up as Lohse, Garza, Gallardo, Peralta, Fiers. With Lohse, Garza and Gallardo set to face the Cardinals at their house during that series from Sept 16-18. Final 2 games of the year would line up with Lohse / Garza starting those games vs the Cubs. October awaits. Go Brewers!
  7. The week ahead: Brewers start a 9 game road trip with 3 @ SD. Then 3 @ SF. Cardinals play @ Pirates for 3, Then Cubs @ Cards for 3 Reds @ Pirates for 3 Other series of note (sticking with Simmons playoff contending teams ) Braves @ Mets, Marlins @ Braves Rockies @ Giants Dodgers @ Dbacks, Dodgers @ Padres Nats @ Phillies, Nats @ Mariners
  8. Glad we could be the slump buster for the pirates ... Ouch
  9. A definite no in my book to picking up the option on Rickie. Goodbye Weeks, it's been well frustrating to say the least. As for the rest. There is nothing suggestion the Brewers would trade Lohse and Gallardo. That just isn't Melvin's and Attanasio's MO. As mentioned, Krush can't play first. Braun has been discussed, I am on the side of the fence that he would be fine there, but I don't see them adding an expensive OF - especially with Parra still on the roster for next year. I don't know where Melvin will make his off season move, he rarely sits still - maybe he will target some relief pitching - but until November, I don't want to think about the off season
  10. 35 games left. .500 ball the rest of the way puts us at 89 wins. We can do that for sure. Lets go for a .600 clip to close the season and go 21-14. Go Brewers!
  11. It isn't surprising and we all figured they would get a way for Wainwright to pitch vs the Crew, but the Cards just tweaked their rotation so Wainwright lines up with the Brewers for both series. http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20140820&content_id=90587716&notebook_id=90596398&vkey=notebook_stl&c_id=stl
  12. Look at Jimmy Nelson's splits by innings http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/split.cgi?id=nelsoji02&year=2014&t=p His ERA is low from inning 1-4 (under 2.5). Inning 5 is 5.68, inning 6 is 7.94, inning 7 is 9.00 His problem has always been he doesn't have a 3rd pitch. Those numbers, albeit small sample, and the fact they won't let him throw much more than 200 innings this year (he is at 153); he looks like a prime candidate to help out our bullpen.
  13. he didn't face a lefty .... Reyes turned around and batted righty. Either way though. We need to figure out our bullpen mess. Wooten, Kintzler are pretty useless. and if you are never going to use Gorz then he is useless too.
  14. I can honestly say I am glad to see Toronto leave. They have a nasty lineup.
  15. This is a good decision. Reyes has been on Jimmy all day. Go to the pen and lets end the top of the 6th
  16. R.A. Dickey has an 8.17 ERA in the 5th inning. Opponents have a 1.006 OPS. I guess the 3rd time through the order does him no favors. Lets follow suit
  17. 2014 First Inning splits: Name - IP / ERA / AVG / OBP / SLG / OPS Peralta - 25 IP / 1.08 ERA / .205 / .290 / .250 / .540 Nelson - 7 IP / 2.57 ERA / .200 / .310 / .200 / .510 Fiers - 3 IP / 0.00 ERA / .100 / .182 / .200 / .382 Lohse - 25 IP / 5.40 ERA / .247 / .324/ .423 / .747 Garza - 22 IP / 6.45 ERA / .258 / .330 / .371 / .701 Gallardo - 25 IP / 4.68 ERA / .271 / .333 / .344 / .677 I don't see how the stats above say, tossing 2 of Garza, Yo and Lohse into the pen makes the team better. I would almost say putting Nelson and Peralta into the pen and keeping Fiers on for the 4th starter gives you more flexibility. So when Lohse goes 7 innings of 2 run ball, you can close the game out with Peralta / k-rod.
  18. I agree with Outlander. Ultimately it is up to Lohse, Garza and Yo. If they want it, then they will get it but chances are slim. Another good question is; name your playoffs rotation. Clearly, Lohse, Garza and Yo would be starters. But then you only need 1 more for that 4th game. Looking at the first inning splits of Nelson vs Peralta, I would lean towards starting Nelson. Then stick Peralta in the pen and he can be used every day. Maybe that doesn't translate and he wouldn't be used to doing that. But anyway you slice it, come playoff time - you only need 4 starters. First Inning: Peralta - 25 IP / 1.08 ERA / .205 AVG / .290 OBP / .250 SLG / .540 OPS Nelson - 7 IP / 2.57 ERA / .200 AVG / .310 OBP / .200 SLG / .510 OPS Fiers - 3 IP / 0.00 ERA / .100 AVG / .182 OBP / .200 SLG / .382 OPS
  19. 42,221 at tonight's game. A Tuesday night sell out. Good work Milwaukee. Let's have Miller Park rockin into October!
  20. Reds score some more ... 4-1 in the 6th. Still 2 on and one out
