  1. I agree with that. I think intentional HBP and home plate collisions are stupid too (baseball is not a sport where you need violence for it to be exciting). I just don't think Quentin is a monster for doing what he did since it is sort of "part of the game" (and he did seem to think Greinke was throwing near his head). Some people are saying he deserves a 3+ month suspension... (and ignoring that Greinke could have done a lot more to not provoke the fight). I wonder if that would be the case if the popularity of the respective players were reversed. I agree with you. Many are labeling Quentin a "monster" when fights happen every week. (And I agree Greinke could have walked away before chirping back at him) ... This fight just resulted in a broken bone to a well liked player. I think some are not happy with the notion that he didn't care either. I think if Quentin came out after the game and said something along the lines of I got caught up in the moment, charged the mound and he ended up hurt. I appologize to Zach as it wasn't my intention to cause physical injury ... yada yada yada. But he didn't. He seemed fine with the result. Thus the monster label.
  2. HBP is a part of the game and always will be. When you throw 90+ MPH and are trying to fit it into the edges of a tight window, naturally, you will miss. If Greinke were to have broken his colarbone on a HBP, he wouldn't have been yelling at him. So still in the right? Of course he is. Charging the mound is the part that isn't and is idiotic to me. (Unless a pitcher intentionally throws at your head) ... I understand fights have gone on in all sports, but NFL / NBA / NASCAR have really tried to subdue confrontations. Injuries to star players is not in the best interest of the league. Anyhow, the Padres play at a sold out LA stadium on Monday. I would expect it to be a pretty rowdy crowd. (Bet there is some extra security on hand) ... Wondering if Mattingly will just throw at Quentin during warm ups? I am also interested to hear what the Dodgers will play as walk up music when Quentin comes to the plate. (I am sure they will be quite creative)
  3. I agree Quentin should be suspended. If I were Mattingly I would be livid too. I would also proceed to plunk Quentin a few more times this year.
  4. Yuni just singled in his first AB
  5. Or... Henderson will be the closer until teams are using him for BP as well Then next guy up I guess. Hendo should have a short leash though. If he isn't getting the job done, move on quickly.
  6. Here are the records after 1 week into the season last year. I have them sorted by final standings. Bold is division winner, * for wild card. As you can see 2 teams (DET, WAS) who won their division started with a winning record after week 1. 2012 - AL AL East After 6 AL Central After 6 AL West After 6 NYY 3-3 DET 5-1 OAK 3-4 BAL* 3-3 CWS 3-2 TEX* 5-2 TB 4-2 KC 3-3 LAA 2-4 TOR 4-2 CLE 1-4 SEA 4-4 BOS 1-5 MIN 2-4 HOU 3-3 2012 - NL NL East After 6 NL Central After 6 NL West After 6 WAS 5-2 CIN 3-4 SF 2-4 ATL* 2-4 STL* 5-2 LAD 6-1 PHI 3-3 MIL 4-3 ARZ 5-1 NYM 4-2 PIT 2-4 SD 2-5 MIA 2-5 CHC 2-5 COL 2-4
  7. Spring training dates do not count towards 60 day DL time. Only the regular season. So he is retroactive to opening day. Thanks for the clarrification. I guess I didn't know 60 day and 15 day have a different set of rules.
  8. Since hart was placed on the 15 day retroactive to March 22nd - I am assuming he is eligible to come off on May 21st? (60 days later) ... Adam McCalvy tweeted that he isn't eligible to come off until May 30th - which I think is wrong
  9. You mean first IBB of his career. Should have just said, Cubs go to intentionally walk Yuni and he still swung at the first pitch. Yuni has never seen a first pitch he doesn't like.
  10. At this point I would take anyone. Axford is done.
  11. Hearing that just makes me want RRR make a stand and publicly say we will have closer by committee. Same thing La Russa did 2 years ago when they won it all. Sure Motte ended up in that role by seasons end (and I am not saying, someone couldn't end up in that role for us) - but for the time being, we really need to open it up. Axford hasn't been an effective closer since 2011.
  12. Segura is really fast - will be fun watching him and Gomez
  13. No kidding - so why even send him when only errant throw would score him?
  14. An update to the T.V. Money topic. Bob Wolfley has part of the story that came from the sports business journal: http://www.jsonline.com/blogs/sports/201106331.html I don't have an account with SBJ but here is the link to the article: https://www.sportsbusinessdaily.com/Journal/Issues/2013/04/01/Media/MLB-team-rights.aspx I find it mind boggling that the Dodgers signed a deal that is $7 billion over 25 years. Or $280 million per year. That is unreal. (In addition there is some sort of clause that could give them another $1 billion. (Considering the Brewers are pulling in a whopping $20 million per year.) And our deal runs through 2019. The discrepency is getting out of hand. I would like to know how much revenue sharing the Dodgers contribute to out of that $280 per year they are getting.
  15. I guess my first question would be - what are the ages? If kids - right field level corridor is a must - tons of stuff for the kids. If its warm my kids like the playground outside home plate entrance too. The other things they like is hot dogs ... Candy/ice cream - soda - I bring snacks in as it is more cost effective Adults - if they like to drink there are lot of beer stands to choose from with different beer options outside of MillerCoors on 1st and 2nd level. If they are food connoisseurs - a stroll through level 1/2 is a good idea too. If warm or are fine with cold temps - tailgating can be fun with the right group. Usually a must for first timers ...
  16. I frequently bring my kids to the game and new to the right field area is: 1. Statue of Bernie Brewer. This was a big hit with the 3 year old. 2. Racing Sausage Statues - Another big hit. I also liked that after the race the winning sausage will be there for pictures.
  17. A quick look back at our guesses from last August. Some had 4 of the 5 correct but no one guessed Lohse. Outside of a few referencing a vet FA type
