  1. Why wouldn't this be on the brewers highlights from last nights game. I heard Ueck's call on the radio but want to see the video
  2. Is this an onion story? ... Blue?
  3. Don't they have a guy for that? Seriously who fixes their own glove and slices off his thumb? Call the glove doctor, he does good work.
  4. So how about now? Do you still stick to an every 5 games approach? Is there any doubt in anyone's mind that carpenter will be pitching on Thursday? He will be on a normal 4 day rest. (if the cards followed the every 5 games approach Carpenter would miss the Brewers series.
  5. Just read he has taken the suspension and will miss the 4 games vs Florida and the series opener against the crew. Link: http://m.espn.go.com/mlb/story?storyId=6834233 Edited to add link
  6. Ya - Morgan has been ridiculous. I don't know where we would be without him, but he is definitely an ignitor on this team. When he is going, we can't be stopped.
  7. I agree with the bolded part, not sure why you would put improve in quotes though - are you mocking that these trades improve teams? Either way, you lost me after that...... you seem to be implying that making deadline deals won't impact a club? Anyhow, Yes, Melvin improved the worst part of this team during the offseason. He has done very little since then and has not improved the next worse things in the 8 months since then - I give Mark A far more credit in the K-Rod deal since that really came down to salary and how deep Mark A's pockets went. Outside of that, Melvin hasn't done much - Hairston was a solid move but it would have been far better if that was the complimentary move to a full time replacement for McGehee. The Cards also don't need Jackson to have a Sabathia like season - the Brewers were melting down and CC saved them that season. He HAD to go on 3 days rest or the Brewers miss the playoffs. As much as I dislike the Cards, when I look at things objectively - I see them as a far more balanced and experienced team than the 2008 Brewers. Didn't mean to mock, more meant it as a deadline deal is NOT a guarenteed success which it appears some believe it is almost guaranteed. I remember the Linebrink trade. (I guess some could argue we gave nothing away but it still didn't work.) Who knows what Furcal and Edwin Jackson do for the cards. IMO trading rasmus for Jackson was not a good move. I don't know their minor leaguers they gave up for Furcal but I have a feeling they over paid. I certainly would not have traded Thornburg or Rivas straight up for Furcal, which in reading the trade threads it seemed like they were asking for a large return. I would argue against the thought that Melvin has done little since the Greinke / Marcum trades, as I wouldn't call Morgan nor K-rod, minor acquisitions. The Morgan one might have been at the time, but it certainly isn't one now. And sure Mark A agreed to the K-rod trade, but Melvin is the one who found it, made it work, presented it, and executed it before the rest of the league could sneeze. and I agree with your last comment, the 2011 Cards are more balanced than the 2008 Brewers but then what is their expectations for 11 starts of Jackson? How many more wins does he provide over replacement level (especially at the expense of Rasmus?)
  8. I forgot one other item: Nyjer Morgan!!!!! T to the Plush!!!!
  9. If you are interested in posting/seeing why the Brewers will not make the playoffs, please see any of the million other threads related to how the Brewers apparently are not "going" for it. (Yuni B thread, RRR thread, Disappointed in deadline moves, .... as my 2 year old son says "blah blah blah" (I am definitely not trying to call anyone out on here, as I am the author of the "Greinke - Please someone talk me off the ledge!!" thread) ... But I would like a positive thread. Especially after seeing our beloved Brewers play some great ball as of late, and are heading into a monster series today. Here are a few of my reasons: 1. Pitching - Both Front end and Back end. We have a ridiculous staff. I don't remember the crew ever having a complete staff that is capable of greatness. What inning is the best inning for opposing teams to try and score off of us? Maybe the 1st inning as everyone says get to starters early. Maybe the 6th and 7th inning? And I do say maybe as Hawkins and Saito seem to be handling the 7th inning duties rather well. (If our starters even allow them into the game) 8th and 9th are off limits, as I really don't expect many opposing runs in those innings. If this staff performs well the next 2 months, we could go something like 35-18 for a .660 winning percentage the rest of the way. (finishing with 95 wins) 2. Braun and Fielder - how often do teams boast having two guys in the top 5 for MVP? These two are having great years, if they both finish strong, watch out NL. 3. Overall hitting - we definitely don't have problems scoring runs. This is a very tough group to shut out and any opposing teams fan always tell me they hate pitching against us. Even though we know the weaknesses of our lineup, many other teams do not get excited about facing us. Especially when Weeks gets back, our lineup is pretty stacked. (Hart, T-Plush, Braun, Fielder, Weeks, Harriston, Yuni, Lucroy (And our bench will be even better then it was pre-Rickies injury.) All-in all, I am stoked for the remainder of the year!! Go Crew!!!!
  10. Jackson is a great pickup - are you really trying to discount him because he has been traded a few times? According to WAR, only 18 pitchers have been better over the past 3 seasons.......... How is that not an impact acquisition? He may not have the namesake of a Beckett or Verlander, but the guy is a front line starter and probably just a notch below the elite guys. I said it in another thread, but it bears repeating - Over the past week, the Cardinals and Pirates both improved. The Brewers did not (due to the Weeks injury). I am jumping for joy the Brewers didn't wait until the All-star break to suddenly "improve" your team for a two month stretch. They improved our team last off season which is way better than waiting until the end of July. You have no idea how players will do over any given 2 month stretch. Over the course of a year, you can get a better estimate as cold and hot streaks happen all the time but usually don't last a whole year. (unless you are named McGehee) ... I am glad the Cardinals waited until August to finally improve their starting rotation. How many starts is Jackson going to get, 11? IMO, it is tough to pull a 2008 Sabathia and have him go 11-2 with a 1.65 ERA. Sabathia got 17 starts, Jackson will not. Like I said, he is looking at 11 GS for the rest of the year. Even if he goes to 3 days rest in Sept, maybe he gets to 13, 14? I am good and am all for them dumping Rasmus.
  11. I also agree with those saying not disappointed. I am estatic. We have one of the best rotations in baseball and the K-rod trade just made it a 7 inning game defensively. Combine that with our starters going an a-typical 6 innings and we only have the 7th inning open. Ever since giving up 12, and 7 runs in the Colorado series the Brewers have now gone 14 games and given up: 3, 3, 3, 2, 4, 2, 4, 2, 2, 0, 2, 0, 2, 4. If we keep giving up an average of 2.35 runs a game, we are going to win a lot of games. Melvin has made amazing moves this year to build a contender and I am loving it. Go Crew!!!!
  12. I thought Morgan couldn't hit lefties - what happened there? Must have been a fluke (blue)
  13. Link: http://www.mlbtraderumors...oritizing-shortstop.html We play them 12 times in 38 days - this is going to be fun. Go crew!!
  14. I agree lucroy has to move up ... I like Morgan lucroy Braun prince hart mcgehee yuni farris
  15. Eric Farris to milwaukee was just announced on 1250
  16. I really want to know what happened there - it seemed like Casey was blaming the coach
  17. I think OBP is worth less in the 7th / 8th hole than OBP for a top of the order hitter. In the 7th / 8th spot - you need guys who hit for a decent average. Lucroy has done great in the 8 spot and I really hope Yuni keeps up the hitting in the 7th spot. I will take Yuni and his AVG > OBP if he keeps hitting at his current clip.
