  1. Half-heartedly cheering for the Royals. Don't know if I'll even watch any bit of a game.
  2. Yes, we all want the younger, cheaper, better player like Headley but so do about 15-20 other clubs. The Brewers can only afford the aging left overs like Suppan, Wolf, Lohse, Garza, and Ramirez... again. I think there's a darn good chance Ramirez is back in Milwaukee again but not because of the option. He'll either be expensive (accepts QO) or not quite as expensive (8-10MM after no one gives him a multi-year deal he settles for a one year deal in the "comfort" of Milwaukee).
  3. According some posters success is only when you win the World Series so we'll have to wait a week or so to see who "won" the trade. Ned may have gotten a little better but he stills does the same head scratching things he did in Milwaukee. He almost single-highhandedly cost them the Wild Card game with his stupidity.
  4. They bat 1,2,3 in a World Series lineup and Escobar plays SS and Cain plays CF. If they aren't cornerstones nobody is.... Escobar, of the .317 OBP and sub .700 OPS, has no business hitting in the top 3 of anybody's batting order. He would have ranked 6th on the Brewers in OBP and his OPS+ would have been 7th, slightly ahead of Mark Reynolds. He's turned out to be the all glove, no bat SS he was projected to be.
  5. The Royals are going to World Series. Ned Yost just happens to be their manager.
  6. This is just wrong and a horrible use of statistics. 37-24 = .607 59-42 = .584 You replace Zack and Marcum with some AAA/vet scrubs and that team does not make the playoffs. That team is the same team it was the years prior that could put lots of runs on the board but couldn't stop the other team from doing the same thing. I still don't think the 2014 team would be all that better without the Greinke trade. Khris Davis and Cain put up almost identical OPS+ (108 for Davis, 107 for Cain). I understand that Cain is better than Davis because of his defense (or Khris's lack of) but with both of these guys on the team there are 4 RHB outfielders. Cain isn't starting over Gomez or Braun, so either Khris or Lorenzo is in AAA or traded. I'm not a huge fan of Segura but so far he has outhit Escobar in his career. Even if you just look at Escobar's time in KC, Segura has been better (career OPS+ of 87 for Segura vs 79 for Escobar). Once again, it comes down to defense. Escobar is clearly superior over Segura. So when comparing the position players in the trade, the offense is almost a wash. The defense is a downgrade but in 2014, this team couldn't score a run to save it's life after July. Cain or Escobar probably wouldn't have changed that. The Wild Card is Odorizzi. He's looking like he might be a middle of the rotation guy. But does he become that with Milwaukee? Someone said he learned a pitch from Alex Cobb. That doesn't happen if he's a Brewer and couple that with the organization's ineptitude when it comes to developing pitchers and he's probably a backend of the rotation/bullpen pitcher. I don't know how he fits on the 2014 team. Garza probably isn't signed and if you replace Garza's 2014 numbers (163 in, 1.4 WAR, 104 ERA+) with Jake's (168 in, 1.2 WAR, 90 ERA+) you once again get a wash or slight downgrade.
  7. LOL....he'll probably be the MOY. I don't know, but this 7 straight must be nearing a record in the playoff era. The Rockies swept their way to the World Series in 2007. That's 7 playoff wins in a row plus a tie breaker game. Of course they were then destroyed in 4 games by the Red Sox.
  8. If the Brewers don't make the Greinke trade, the pitching sucks and they miss the playoffs. If they Brewers had Cain and Escobar this year, maybe they make the playoffs. Whether they make the trade (or trades if you include the Marcum trade) I think they make the playoffs the same number of times over the last 4 years. If you replace Escobar with Segura and add Cain and Odorizzi to the current team, are they really that much better? I don't think so.
  9. I'm pretty sure that's how Lyle got his Spring Training invite.
  10. http://www.dilbert.com/strips/comic/2014-10-12/ Today's Dilbert sums up how the Brewer's front office works sometimes, especially the fourth and fifth panels.
  11. When my wife and I first met, her only sports interest was the Packers because and only because she was raised in Green Bay. Now, after only two years of being together, she hates Joe Buck, Ron Roenicke, and the St. Louis Cardinals and gets mad when Aaron Rodgers throws TD's because he is on the fantasy team she is playing.
  12. I think he means the Cubs quit on Svuem.
  13. Does anyone feel the Royals setting themselves up to be like the Rockies the year they went to the World Series? Dominate the Divisional and League Championship Series and then get obliterated in the World Series, probably by the Cardinals.
  14. This has been talked about repeatably here: ...his horrible aggressive baserunning philosophy ...his horrible bullpen management ...his horrible "every starter goes 100 pitches" routine ...his love for washed-up veterans over, well everybody else ...his ho-hum attitude toward horrible baserunning mistakes ...his lack of accountability for players who do things that little leaguers know better than to do ...his starting a guy because he's 2 for 4 vs a pitcher in his career instead of a guy who's clearly the better player ...the squeeze bunt ...the contact play ...the infield in ...Mark Kotsay in CF ...Yuni at first base after the season is over and there are younger options ...Overbay/Reynolds at first base after the season is over and there are younger options
  15. [sarcasm]I'm glad Mark and Doug put their heads together and finally found the culprits for last season's collapse.[/sarcasm] (If there was a throwing up emoticon, I would place it right here.)
  16. At catcher, Coulter's bat projects to be very good to possibly elite. As an OF, how does it project? Above average? Why not let the guy work at catcher or at least a tougher position than RF like 3B and see if he can handle that first. You can learn OF in the bigs or a couple months in AAA.
  17. Whoever wins the wild card game is most likely going to be a disadvantage since they most likely used one of, if not, their best starter in the game. They then play the team with the best record in the league who will have a fresh ace and a fresh bullpen. Aside from only being a 5 game series, the wild card play-in game should make the "best" team win the divisional playoff round more often than previously. Isn't that what people want? The wild card winner to not make the world series.
  18. Really, I would say that Aoki looks more silly offensively and defensively more often than anybody in baseball. Aoki swung at some of the worst pitches I've ever seen a hitter swing at but he would usually make enough contact to foul it off. He has great hand/eye coordination but chooses terrible pitches to swing at.
  19. The Astros hired AJ Hinch and the Dbacks hired Dave Stewart during the post season. And the Rockies just announced the resignation of their GM and immediately named his replacement. I'm sorry to say but Ron will be back.
  20. We know that Ned has no problem retaliating. So after Salvador Perez gets one in the ribs the Royal's manager at least has the balls to give one back to the Cardinals.
  21. The Astros already hired a new manager and the Dbacks and Twins are interviewing candidates, so unless your candidate is on a playoff team you're free to talk to whoever you want. Ron has to be coming back. He would have been fired by now.
  22. How could the Dodgers not have retaliated for the obvious intentional drilling of Puig? Once again, the Cardinals pull their usual crap and totally get away with it. No fine, no suspension, no nothing. Just ridiculous.
