  1. The Cardinals will be allowed as many timeouts as they want. I mean they're allowed to push umpires and argue replay challenges so why would any other rules apply to them?
  2. Are you looking to get rid of everything to one person or is it piece meal?
  3. I'm talking about now vs. the 70's or 80's - regardless of the state. I wasn't born yet, so I don't know what it was like then, but that must have been horrible. It seems like people don't think of a DUI as a big thing in Wisconsin.
  4. Segura has only had 3 months in his career where he looked like he belongs in the bigs. He's been rather putrid outside that and unless he makes major changes to his approach at the plate I don't see him ever being an even adequate hitter. I have no problem with him as the short stop next year, however, because he at least has defensive value and there is no way the team can upgrade at SS without spending a lot of money or prospects.
  5. Amen turborickey. This topic has come up before and I have said this before, but I'll say it again. I live in Waukesha and work in Milwaukee. Many times I feel like I'm the only one on the road to and from work (mostly from work) that is not texting. Yes, the indicators are similar to drunk driving...usually they do not maintain a constant speed, drift in and out of their lane, and they leave way too much space between them and the car in front of them (until of course traffic comes to a stop and they notice at the last second and slam on their brakes). I have yet to come up with a good way to vent my frustration toward a driver in front of me (or in back of me) when I can see their face in the sideview or rearview mirror (theirs or mine) and their eyes are going up and down. My hope is that it becomes as shameful as drunk driving. I believe MADD really helped curb drunk driving and the general public attitude towards drinking and driving. There needs to be some organized movement like that again, this time directed at texting and driving. I know efforts have been made, but I don't feel that they have been overly effective. You're certainly not talking about Wisconsin are you, where DUI's are seen as a right of passage. And that bugs me.
  6. [sarcasm]We need metal detectors to get into the line to go through the metal detectors. Problem, solved.[/sarcasm]
  7. Here! Here! Agree 100%
  8. The only way I could like Greinke more after last night's game would have been if he put a fastball in Molina's neck tat.
  9. I'm staying in Middleton this weekend while my wife is here for work. I drove her to her conference at about 7:15 this morning. There were snowflakes.
  10. No doubt. Apparently if you are a Cardinal or have neck tats you get get away with shoving umpires. Nothing would make me happier than seeing Molina take a Greinke fastball in the face and him never playing baseball again. This is just what I was talking about in the "turn the franchise around thread." St. Louis pulls this crap all the time. They hit someone, Molina acts like the thug he is, and they get away with it. EVERY TIME! Adrian Gonzalez said it best when talking about Puig getting hit, "You guys (Cardinals) keep doing this to us. We all know it. They'll say it wasn't intentional but we all know what's going on." And we all know there will be no suspensions, no fines, no reprimands, NOTHING! The league allows this to happen all the time. The only thing you can do is retaliate and the Dodgers need to. Molina, Holiday, Adams, Carpenter. One or all them needs a fastball in the ribs.
  11. Good question that I honestly don't know the answer to. I assume it would be the responsibility of the home club, but I really am not sure. MLB Rule 3.01© Before the game begins the umpire shall: © Receive from the home club a supply of regulation baseballs, the number and make to be certified to the home club by the league president. The umpire shall inspect the baseballs and ensure they are regulation baseballs and that they are properly rubbed so that the gloss is removed. The umpire shall be the sole judge of the fitness of the balls to be used in the game; Sounds like the home team.
  12. So the Cardinals drill Puig in the first game of the series. It will be an absolute joke when there are no suspensions from this. The Cardinals are trash. Absolute trash. The whole organization. The Dodgers just need to keep taking aim at Molina and Holiday's head. Every at bat, up and in.
  13. The mayor of St. Louis replies to the article - and makes you want to hate the Cardinals (and St. Louis) even more: http://online.wsj.com/articles/st-louis-to-america-dont-be-jealous-1412273454 I came here to post this too. I started to read it and then quickly skimmed the rest of it. The generalization of Midwesterners being quiet and humble does not apply to St. Louis.
  14. Behold the consistency of Aoki. While his power numbers have dropped quite a bit after his rookie season, his batting average and on-base percentage have stayed virtually the same. YR/AVG/OBP 12/.288/.355 13/.286/.356 14/.285/.349 I remember one of the things we ragged on Roenicke about was his assertion that he hit lefties better than righties. For his career he has a .776 OPS vs LHP and a .726 OPS vs RHB. His batting average is 46 points higher against lefties. This season his OPS against lefties was .205 higher than against righties. While I think the franchise better off with Smith than Aoki, I miss him.
  15. Actually, almost every ball that is put in play is taken out. You just don't see it on TV like pitches in the dirt. No, I pay attention to it when I go to games. We even discuss it when it happens in the seats. I'll have to watch more closely. A lot of times after a hit or an out in play, after the pitcher gets the ball, I see him either throw it to the catcher or just chuck it toward the dugout.
  16. I really only use them because I have them. Once my current batch is gone, I doubt I'll get any more. I also sell things for people on eBay. It's easier to write out a check then give someone and odd cash amount like $23.47.
  17. Actually, almost every ball that is put in play is taken out. You just don't see it on TV like pitches in the dirt.
  18. The guy's got a career 121 OPS+ and is only 21 years old. That's not Hall of Fame numbers but that's still pretty darn good.
  19. The guy's super cheap for what he does and controlled for 3 more years. The A's are going to want a lot for him.
  20. If they stick with the Hall of Fame thing, Hoffman should have his number retired too in a few years.
  21. http://hardballtalk.nbcsports.com/2014/10/01/mlb-to-test-new-pace-of-play-rules-in-the-arizona-fall-league-including-a-pitch-clock/ I like all of these except the intentional walk rule. An IBB only takes a minute, at most anyway, but this is taking the opportunity away for players to steal a base and a pitcher to screw up. I'm a huge fan of the 3 time out limit. That should make a sizable difference in game time. There's no reason a catcher has to go to the mound multiple times during an inning. If the pitcher can't remember the scouting report that's his own fault.
  22. This may have been discussed when it happened, but I just read this article today and wanted to pass it on. http://hardballtalk.nbcsports.com/2014/08/06/tony-la-russa-defends-the-dbacks-plunking-of-andrew-mccutchen-and-its-ridiculous/ La Russa thinks that pitching up and in, not hitting a guy, warrants drilling someone in the ribs. What garbage this guy is. The story also has links to some great Cardinal hypocrisy featuring La Russa and the ever-popular Chris "How will I explain this to my son?" Carpenter.
  23. I don't want to see those 3 traded for Donaldson. I think he's a good player, and wouldn't mind seeing the Brewers try and acquire him, but he's not worth those guys. I don't know why the A's would want to trade him anyway, he's cheap and in his prime years. Even if they do have a stud 3B coming along they could move him to 1B, OF, or DH.
