  1. Seems like Seattle are the real winners here. They gave up a player they have no room for and received an above average major leaguer they control for 2 and a half seasons. Tampa seems like they got not nearly enough back for a season and a half of a top 5 starting pitcher. They must really think Franklin is the guy who OPS'ed about .800 in his first 2 months in the bigs, not the guy he's been since. Detroit once again is just trying to win. They might re-sign Price, they might not. Either way they added a significant player to their roster to win now.
  2. Ask and you shall receive: http://m.mlb.com/det/video/v34965799/cwsdet-jackson-exits-to-ovation-after-trade-news/?tcid=mm_det_vid&c_id=det Thanks. He got a nice ovation. Who's going to play CF for the Tigers? [sarcasm]Miggy[/sarcasm]
  3. Not entirely the same situation but they didn't have a problem doing it to Hardy.
  4. According to the manager handbook: "A closer pitching in a save situation cannot be pulled until after the save has been blown."
  5. You have to wonder if Masterson was acquired to replace Miller with him being traded for Lester or Price.
  6. They're not mistakes to him. It's what he teaches them. It has to be.
  7. Good grief. How many times will the Brewers get thrown out at 3rd on a grounder to short. There's no way major leaguers can do that this often without being told to do it.
  8. I think it's obvious to most that SS and 1B are the two positions most in need of an upgrade. There's really nothing out there for first basemen. I've been wondering if the Brewers have any interest in Asdrubal Cabrera though.
  9. Unless Price can play 1st base and put up a consistent .800+ OPS at the plate I don't see this as a wise move. The rotation is actually an area of strength and giving up good young players would be dealing from an area of weakness. You don't deal from your weakness to improve a strength.
  10. I've never really cared about David Ortiz one way or the other but his comments after Chris Archer called him out for watching his homeruns made me dislike him. Archer: Ortiz:
  11. Color me impressed with Jeffress. Upper 90's, even 100, but over the plate consistently.
  12. I don't know what it would take but I doubt he would be happy not closing.
  13. That would go over real well in the majors. Those really don't look like strikes either.
  14. Lefty starters come up so infrequently I would rather just put a guy on the field that can hit than Barney. Rickie is at least a hitting threat off the bench too. Barney would just add another wet newspaper to the late game offense.
  15. Baseball has always been a pendulum that swings back and forth between offense and pitching. It will correct itself in a few years and people will be complaining there is too much scoring again. I don't think this idea is totally stupid but I also don't see it ever happening.
  16. Seems like a real "whatever" trade for both teams. The Padres held on to Headley way too long and got very little back. The Yankees are getting a guy who's had one really good offensive season and whose career seems to be taking a nose dive.
  17. Sometimes bullpens are good. Sometimes bullpens are bad. Have we learned nothing here?
  18. It's pretty simple really. The book says your closer gets saves. If the situation can't result in your closer getting a save, there's no reason to bring him in. It's stupid and dumb and has cost teams multitudes of games but that's the book.
  19. [sarcasm]I guess I missed when Colby Lewis got traded to St. Louis.[/sarcasm] Lewis clearly doesn't have much faith in his own team if he thinks being down 2 runs in the 5th is a game over situation.
  20. The Astros refusing to give Brady Aiken full slot value because of his "abnormal" UCL is apparently making the Astros the disgrace of baseball. I have no specific link or article about it, it's just really bugging me that this is becoming a big deal. Aiken turned down more money than he is almost certain to get if he's drafted next year and the Astros are the bad guys here.
  21. The double standard is mostly because Braun doesn't play in LA, Chicago, Boston, or New York.
  22. Montero is basically a younger Mark Reynolds who hasn't played much first base. Low avg, low obp, high-ish slug, career .700 OPS.
  23. PED's? Maybe. Probably. Either way I don't care. I think he went through the same thing Carlos Gomez did, he finally found an organization that let him play to his strengths. I remember seeing an interview with a him quite a few years ago where he said the Twins organization was more interested in teaching players to sacrifice bunt and hit grounders to the right side.
