  1. The bolded part amazes me. I totally understand not allowing people to jump the line because who knows what that would lead to but so much is just being thrown away because there are way more doses than people who are "allowed" to get it. I don't have the solution but it hasn't been my job over the 9 months to figure it out either. I would like to think this pandemic has opened the eyes of a lot of people to just how truly inept our government is at all levels regardless of party but I doubt it. Instead of tossing out the two animals that have been screwing up this country for a century it will be even more of "vote for more of my favorite party, they're better and they'll fix it!"
  2. How many people knew he ever worked for the Cubs? I didn't. The Mets had to fire their GM right after hiring him this year and last year they had to fire their manager right after hiring him. I don't think anyone should "look bad" other than the guy but it would certainly be the Mets here.
  3. Wisconsin going to start vaccinating general public 65 and older next week. Have a friend who works at a pharmacy and he said they had no heads up this was going to happen already. Phone is ringing off the hook and they have no info to give out. They don't know when they will get vaccines, how much, or how to give it out. Seems like a total failure on all involved. You'd think the government would tell the people who would be dispersing the vaccines before announcing it to the public. You'd also think the people who would be dispersing the vaccine would have done some planning beforehand as to how they would give it out once they get it. Sounds just like in Florida. The state let the counties decide how they were going to give out the vaccine and then the county leaders complained that they didn't know what to do because the state didn't tell them what to do. Well, it's your job. Figure it out. There was such a rush to get this vaccine made and out there and now that it is it seems like no one knows what to do with it. We've had almost a year to plan this and everyone seems to be caught with their pants down.
  4. Why? I think if you polled the nation, seeing Brady in yet another SB is not at the top of their choices. Besides, it's not like Rodgers/Mahomes is less of a draw. Doesn't matter what the people want, Brady going to another Super Bowl with a new team and after Belichek fell on his face without him is the storyline the sports media want.
  5. The NFL is going to want Brady vs Mahomes in the Super Bowl so I think there's your outcomes. (That's like 35% blue.)
  6. From a strict statistical point of view, the higher the jackpot the higher your expected outcome is. Or really, the less your expected loss is.
  7. https://www.latimes.com/california/story/2021-01-17/covid-19-coronavirus-vaccine-update-pandemic New strain found in California after finding new strains in the UK and South Africa and a few others. When the new variants started popping up, everything I read said that the vaccines should be effective against them. Now whenever I read a story of the new strains they say they're not sure if the vaccines will work. Who knows, maybe reporters are only choosing to ask "experts" who will give answers that create sensational news but if the vaccine we just rushed to make and start injecting people with is useless or throwing a dart at a moving target then we're pretty much screwed. Personally, I've felt an effective treatment was more important than the vaccine. People are still going to get it even with the vaccine. The fact that the outcomes from people who become infected range from never even knowing they had it to being dead within days just boggles my mind.
  8. Well, yeah. Many state legislatures and the outgoing administration haven't hid the fact that they consider in-person school an extremely high priority. https://www.nbc26.com/news/coronavirus/janesville-teachers-to-receive-vaccine-ahead-of-schedule If this is in reference to Janesville, it looks like they went rogue and are going against state protocol for vaccine rollout. And it seems like Evers has thrown his hands in the air and said there's nothing he can do to stop it. Even thought it won't happen for almost a week.
  9. My wife works for Aurora and I'm going to throw them under the bus because they have handled COVID like idiots from the beginning. I could go on and on but here's the latest. All buildings have screeners that check temperatures of people going in. That's certainly not uncommon anywhere these days. However, now in an effort to save time, Aurora has told their employees to download an app where they will check their own temperature at home and enter it in the app. If it's an acceptable temperature it will tell them they can go to work. Here's the mindblowingly stupid kicker: they still have screeners and you have to show the screener that the app says you're ok to work to get into the building. This is going to save zero time and how many people are actually going to check their temperature and not just enter a normal reading because they feel fine. Sure, these are health professionals so you would think all of them would but there is still custodial, office, cafeteria, etc. staff who probably aren't any different than the general public and don't care. If anyone here works for Aurora they know that since they combined with Advocate and their people took over it's become obvious they are morons.
  10. How much longer will the NBA season even last? COVID might be hoisting the Larry O'Brien trophy when the season ends.
  11. I doubt there is any real market for Braun's services. If he wants to play, whatever deal he signs will be "cheap". What do you define as cheap? $2 million? $5 million? Huge potential variance there, especially for a team like the Brewers this off season.... Yes, cheap is totally relative to the team signing him but I mean it more as cheap relative to what the name Ryan Braun would generally be paid. He just came off a stretch of being paid about $20M a season. Would he take a pay cut to say $5M? Between his ego and the fact he didn't really seem comfortable playing a COVID season last year I'm sure he has a high number in mind that he would be willing to play for. And he has every right to do that nor do I fault him for it. Personally, I think he's done. Maybe he takes half the season off and waits to see if there's a fit for him for a playoff run. Either way I don't think he'll be in spring training with any team.
  12. In 2017, no one expected the Brewers to compete for anything & they had the lowest payroll in baseball & just missed the playoffs by one game. But they didn't win the World Series, so who cares? Might as well have spent the whole summer watching the Tigers win 64 games with 3rd highest payroll in MLB. In 2018, the Brewers splurged. Yelich & Cain (& Wade Miley too!!). Payroll all the way up to 22nd. Fans were excited, but even then no one was predicting 5th most wins in MLB & Game 7 of the NLCS. But they didn't win tbe World Series, so what did they really accomplish? Probably would have been just as fun to spend half the year watching the Orioles win 47 games with the 10th highest payroll in MLB. In 2019, the payroll went up again (17th!!), but despite spending considerably more than in 2018, the team did not win as many games. Even so, they still made the posteseason (where they were 6 outs from knocking out the eventual WS Champs) after going on an historic September run without the reigning league MVP. They didn't win the WS though, so...BORING. Could have just watched the Mariners win 68 games with the 10th highest payroll if I wanted to watch a team NOT win the World Series. If winning the WS is the only successful outcome, 25 teams have nothing to show for the last five years. Out of those 25 teams, the Brewers have objectively been among the most interesting to follow on a day to day basis, which is all I can really ask for from an entertainment product. I highly approve of both the content and passive aggressive attitude of this post.
  13. I doubt there is any real market for Braun's services. If he wants to play, whatever deal he signs will be "cheap".
  14. As if the Ravens didn't look like big enough turds in their win the Steelers are looking like bigger turds in their loss. It's one thing to think to yourself and tell your teammates that the team that just beat you is crap but when you start putting it on social media and telling it to reporters you look like an idiot.
  15. In other words what every player says when they are traded before their walk year and then doesn't resign.
  16. Titans have a routine of stomping on logos. Titans said they meet as a team at midfield before every game, even on the road. I don't know, either way it's stupid. When I was watching the Ravens do their thing on the Titans logo I was waiting for some Titans players to come running on the field and a big brawl but that thankfully didn't happen. I like when players show their emotion and excitement but all this shoving it opponents faces and talking about "respect" is just stupid.
  17. Is there anything more stupid in sports than stomping on the opposing team's logo on the field? Caught the end of the Titans/Ravens game and saw the Ravens do it and then sprint off the field before the clock even expired to avoid shaking hands after the game. I guess whatever you need to do to get yourself up for a game.
  18. So I have to laugh because I read this article right after I read an article where the expert said the new COVID variant isn't really anything to worry about - maybe it's more contagious but current protective measures and the vaccine should work just as well. I get it, this thing is still new and we're learning but can we quit with the "murder porn" quotes in COVID news stories. Everything is "this is only going to get worse" and "more and more people are going to die". Every news story reads like Bill Hader doing a Dateline skit on SNL where the reporter just gets more and more excited the worse and more grizzly the story gets.
  19. Would the Brewers want to risk Braun leaving the field to a chorus of boos? Depending on the opposing team for the game I think the idea that he'd leave to a rousing and standing ovation isn't a guarantee.
  20. Shouldn't the biggest crime here be that an Angel's employee was helping players on other teams perform better?
  21. Money being equal, there are much worse rotations than the Brewers that Kluber could try to break into.
  22. Libraries have movies for free.
  23. Only if you allow it to be. These trades working out for the team getting the "big name" player are hit or miss in the short term and almost always hurt in the long term.
  24. Lindor is currently set to become a free agent next November. Bref said 2022 for earliest free agency so I took that as after the 2022 season but even more reason for a light return if it's only one year. With Carassco's age it's likely this trade only provides any sort of positive return in 2021 for the Mets.
