  1. AB to TB to play with TB again.
  2. Like I said, I think you are still thinking of "Packer People" as too high of a standard. The team wasn't filled with choir boys - yes they had guys make mistakes and they gave guys second chances. Packer People just meant that we cared about how people were on and off the field - pretty much the opposite of the Raiders of the 70s. People that had long histories of issues were avoided, but it wasn't as if they expected the players to never have gotten in trouble either. Much was made of this when they brought Colt in, too. They were clear this was his chance and he had a very short rope. I don't recall him ever taking the field in preseason. Sad case for the guy. FYI, TT's justification for not signing FAs was that they weren't rookie free agents - the only kind he ever signed. I had never heard of this guy before seeing his name here. According to Wikipedia he tore his ACL warming up before Family Night and was released shortly after. Never saw game action of any kind.
  3. He's nothing like that cheapskate Steinbrennber. There's no reason the Yankees payroll shouldn't be at least $4 billion.
  4. What I would call you is someone who must be fortunate enough to not have had someone close to you affected by this, because if you had I can't understand how you could be where you are at on this. You made the joke about grandma dying, well my wife's family lost a grandpa this weekend. An otherwise healthy grandpa in his early 60's, who if the bars were not open, would be here today. He was, as OldSchoolSnapper put it, "getting on with life" and he and the family he left behind paid the price. Instead of saying "well the bars are open, why shouldn't there be trick-or-treating?" maybe question whether the bars should be open. And while I'm sure you and others would call me a liberal sap, left-wing nutjob, etc, I think of myself as someone who simply doesn't want to see more people die when they don't have to. Actually I have had a few family members and acquaintances get it. Including my wife's 95 year old great uncle who came out fine. And, yes, I do believe that this kills people. Even, very rarely, young "healthy" people. As someone posted before we need to get over the "but what is government doing about it!?!?!" and take care of ourselves. I don't want people to die of anything, ever. But people are free to make their own choices. They smoke, they drink to excess, they're overweight, they have a crap diet full of sugar and processed food, they get no physical activity, they avoid sleep and live on energy drinks. If people are going to go to bars or go party with large groups of people right now that's their choice. I'm not gonna be doing that but I'm also not going to get upset about it any more than I would about people that live generally unhealthy lives. Yes, I understand keep the medical system from being strained but how much is/has been the medical system already stressed by people suffering the consequences of their own poor choices without government stepping in to save people from themselves. If we really wanted to save a lot of lives and save medical resources we'd make tobacco products illegal but that will never happen.
  5. A grocery store "promotes contact." Your Utopia sounds like a breeding ground for depression. It sounds like you are content to lock yourself inside for an unlimited amount of time. Sounds a bit more insane to me than people who think that's a bit of overkill. Look, it shouldn't surprise anyone that a guy in his 50s thinks Trick or Treat isn't necessary. I on the other hand think that 8 months into this, it's time to get on with life. Cancelling ToT isn't going to make Covid go away. All these measures at this point are like ants scrambling with granules of sand to stop some kid with a garden hose. It's time to live again. It's probably not the right year for drunken costume parties (which will also happen anyway) but ToT can be done safely and like most of the exaggerations throughout this thing, will probably go off just fine. Sorry I just think the idea is a joke. Bars are open everyday and most kids are playing football but we're going to ax ToT and save lives? We are not going to distance and mask this thing away. We had our shot and blew it half a year ago. How many things that make life worth living are we just going to keep kicking down the road until things magically get better? We need a vaccine. It's the only out at this point. [sarcasm]Why do you want grandma to die?[/sarcasm] But seriously, this is where I and a whole lot of other people are too. But if you say this you're called a hoaxer, or a Trumper, don't believe science, or a whole bunch of other irrelevant nonsense.
  6. I'd sit JuJu. I concur ... although I think there's a good chance the people who are chasing points with Claypool are going to be soundly disappointed. With JJSS, Claypool, Johnson, Washington, Ebron, Conner there are way too many hands to feed to be comfortable with any of those guys. Pick a name out of a hat each week as to who will have the best game.
  7. AEW Dynamite One Year Anniversary Show: - Britt Baker was cringeworthy before her injury. Since then her stuff with Tony Schiavone and Rebel/Reba has been great. - Only Chris Jericho could put over a steak dinner like it's the main event of Wrestlemania. - Cody vs Orange Cassidy was an amazing match. I had it on in the background while I was doing some work and after a few minutes I stopped working and was glued to it. About halfway into it the ending was rather predictable but there were still moments where you believed the outcome could be different. - I can't buy Lance Archer as any sort of monster - not with his blue eyes and kind face. Jake Roberts is great on the mic but does nothing for him. I like Jon Moxley but he's done absolutely nothing since he won the title like 9 months ago. He's their World Champion and he has one week feuds that go no where. They do a couple weeks of build up for his match with Archer and it lasts like 8 minutes with nothing other than a table spot happening. The feud with Eddie Kingston looks like it could be good though.
  8. Are there abnormally high numbers of store cashiers, bar tenders, restaurant wait staff, teachers, ect. that are testing positive? I did a real quick google and all I found was where COVID "could" be highly transmissible based on conditions but no hard data. I would think it would be rather easy to compile this information and would give us a good sense of the type of situations and environments where COVID is spreading. Remember when grocery store workers were considered "front line workers" back in spring - I don't remember hearing about massive amounts of them getting COVID.
  9. CDC says you need 15 minutes of close contact with someone to be at risk, mask or not. Unless you stop to have a chat with someone, you're not having 15 minutes of close contact with anyone in a store. Even 5 minutes probably isn't going to happen. I know that that doesn't mean transmission is impossible under 15 minutes but it certainly seems much less likely. I just went to Menards this morning. The closest I came to another person was the cashier checking out and that was for about 45 seconds. For all the people supposedly not wearing masks out and about I can't see that really causing much spread. At least not any more than it was over the summer. The only thing that has changed in the last month or so that would lead to increased prolonged close contact among people is school openings. Yet, back in spring we were told that the risk of spread in schools was minimal and that the school closures at the time were unnecessary and the study someone posted before said the same thing. So, who knows what's going on.
  10. Maybe they're just looking for someone who will teach Tim Anderson to play "the right way".
  11. I really think this is yet another example of why large second-contract deals to RBs don't work out well in today's league, and why I don't think the Packers will resign Jones. Bell is obviously a weird case based on his history, but there's a reason why guys like Gordon and Gurley weren't resigned by the teams that drafted them high in the draft. I think the majority of people who aren't NFL running backs or media talking heads understand this.
  12. Jets released Le'Veon Bell. What a dumpster fire of an organization that is.
  13. If this goes on for another year or more, those that "follow the rules" are going to be in the extreme minority. And there's nothing you can do about it. You want the police to enforce mask usage and other health policies? That will not end well in our current anti-police climate.
  14. Gibson...though Henderson may have a higher ceiling for a big week. That's exactly what I feel. Gibson has the higher floor with no competition for carries but playing on such a crap team he's not likely to ever really have a great game either. Looks like Henderson may be the man now for the Rams and Gibson was meh even ceding touches in the second half. But I'll flip them in my lineup this week and the results will flip again.
  15. One of the things that I hate about baseball media. Let's create a set of parameters so specific that only one or two players fit it and then present it as something important.
  16. Gibson...though Henderson may have a higher ceiling for a big week. That's exactly what I feel. Gibson has the higher floor with no competition for carries but playing on such a crap team he's not likely to ever really have a great game either.
  17. March: We have to close the schools to stop the spread! June: Most of the rest of the world didn't close schools or opened them back up and everything turned out fine. August: We can't open the schools! We need to prevent the spread! October: We are starting to get an evidence-based picture of how school reopenings and remote learning are going and the evidence is pointing in one direction. Schools do not, in fact, appear to be a major spreader of COVID-19. Look, I'm not taking a stand one way or the other. I can't even decide which way I stand. But this back and forth, lack of consensus on so many things about COVID is why people have stopped caring.
  18. How many pitchers use a slide step these days? I don't have the exact answer but it's certainly very few and that's because they know no one's going to try and run on them anyway. I think you bring up a very good point. If pitchers would have to devote even a little of their concentration to baserunners it would give a little help to batters. Also putting runners in motion negates a little bit of the advantage of the shift as you now have to make your fielders leave their position.
  19. What's everyone's feeling on who to own from the Rams backfield? I actually have all three of Henderson, Brown, and Akers on my team and am leaning towards starting Antonio Gibson over all of them. Mixon is my other RB and if not for last week he might have been on my bench this week too.
  20. There is already a rule in place for this, but it is seldom, if ever enforced. I know that but it's a judgement rule that like you said is almost never enforced. If the rule says that getting hit in your armor won't get you the base then that is more clearly defined and more likely to be enforced.
  21. The increase in HBP makes sense with all the armor players wear and the general lack of control pitchers have nowadays combined with the increased velocity and less time to get out of the way. It's such a minuscule part of the game that only the diehard-est of fans will even care about but I feel that batters should be able to wear all the armor they want but getting hit in the armor won't get you the base, it just counts as a ball. With fastballs frequently coming in around 100 MPH batters need some protection but let's not reward the guys who are leaning into curveballs with all their plastic.
  22. Good points. We also won't see the effects on physical health for at least another year, and mental health much longer than that. Many people are terrified to leave their home to see their doctor or a specialist. Or a therapist. All we see and hear from the media is armageddon, so there's no sense of proportion in how serious it is. The problem is you can't take a middle ground stance or else you're labeled a hoaxer who wants grandma to die.
  23. Looks like the state of New York is really "taking it seriously". What a stupid loophole to come up with. I'm sure it was created because all the media and entrainment types who have been telling us for months to "stay home and stay safe" saw their bank accounts starting to dwindle so they wrote a few checks to the right people.
  24. Titans and Patriots with more positive COVID tests.
