  1. They are getting 2 years of control of Lindor at no financial discount unless Cleveland in throwing money in. Carrasco isn't expensive but isn't cheap either and his contract goes until he's 36. If the Mets are taking on all the money from both contracts it's not surprising the return in light.
  2. I agree it's pennies for an NFL team. If he would have went to Caroll and said we need to get him a catch for his bonus so let's run a play for him or paid out of his own pocket or got his teammates to pool their money to pay the bonus that would be leadership. Even though Wilson didn't benefit from what he did it seems like an awfully selfish act.
  3. I have some reservations about Bitcoin, but I’ll bite here. Part of Bitcoin’s appeal is that there is a finite supply. There will only ever be 21 million Bitcoins. Meanwhile, countries print new fiat money every day. Even gold, which has a fixed supply on Earth, could hypothetically be mined from other planets or asteroids some day. So it's basically a collector's item?
  4. Instead of Running Out the Clock Against the 49ers, Russell Wilson Showed Remarkable Leadership I don't know if I would say that changing a play to spend $100,000 of someone else's money is remarkable leadership.
  5. What exactly does the percentage of positive tests show? If all those tested were randomly selected then there would be some statical relevance but that's not what's happening. There are large testing centers where every hypochondriac goes probably daily that skew those numbers to useless. I read that the WI National Guard testing centers are reaching 1,000,000 tests collected. How many of those people that they tested had any real reason to get tested other than misplaced fear and curiosity? The sample is not at all representative of the population. I'm not downplaying anything or saying there's a conspiracy I'm just confused as to why people get so fixated on this. It's bad statistical gathering so I don't know what exactly you can glean from the information.
  6. If Doug really wanted to tank the game wouldn't it have been easier to just call bad plays? The whole thing seems stupid regardless of what his real reasons were.
  7. He's been bad for a couple years. If a trainer doesn't puncture Tyrod Taylor's lung they probably would have been battling for the #1 pick.
  8. Oh gosh, yes. That is the perfect way to describe it. I went to a YP event a few years ago and it was basically everyone patting themselves on the back at how good they were at being young and having a job that wasn't manual labor. Never went back.
  9. Small missed 2017 because of TJ. He's barely thrown 200 total innings in 3 seasons since. Between the time elapsed and so few innings thrown, he's probably now just getting back to "normal".
  10. Tape and satellite delay or am I missing something?
  11. It's a bit odd to me that Pittsburgh is doing this as they are still in the running for the #2 seed. Not as important as in previous years, but the 2 seed is guaranteed HFA for the first 2 rounds. I would think they'll be kicking themselves if Buffalo loses to Miami tomorrow, and they definitely could. I guess HFA isn't really as important as in most years must be their mindset. But they also haven't been playing very good football lately and you'd think they'd want to get back into a rhythm. I think they'd be kicking themselves even more if Ben would get hurt tomorrow and they have to rely on Mason Rudolph in the playoffs.
  12. My buddy in Florida said it's available to everyone today.
  13. As for Kim, what kind of ceiling are we looking at here? The track record for hitters coming over from Asian leagues is very spotty. At the top you have Matsui who was a beast in the US. Ichiro was either great or just really good depending on how you feel about his game. Aoki did some good things for us and other teams but was really all around average. Jung-ho Kim probably had the most success coming from the Korean league but then fell flat on his face after two seasons, off the field stuff notwithstanding. Even Thames coming back to the states had value but wasn't really a dependable gamechanger because of his horrible splits and lack of defense. I'd love to take a shot at one of these guys from foreign leagues but I can't see the risk worth the investment. You're looking at minimal ceiling with a bottomless floor and a high potential of total failure.
  14. I agree with trying other things before surgery but so often we see players have surgery late in the offseason and get behind in recovery then wind up missing ST time which leads to missing regular season time which leads to some guys never getting going. It seems like if surgery is the likely outcome do it earlier rather than later to leave room for any setbacks.
  15. Can you be more clear and tell me why? Her big reason right now is she's breastfeeding and she says there's no research about how it might affect that. But she said even if she wasn't she's still on the fence. Didn't really elaborate. I don't know why her co-workers don't want it. A few have gotten the vaccine already though.
  16. Two regime's have spoken highly of Erickson. The fact that he hasn't moved up in years tells me it's either blowing smoke or he's stuck at Appleton because he's local and he's a draw for the TRats.
  17. Perhaps just the media overblowing something like always but seems that there is a sizable amount of healthcare workers refusing the vaccine. My wife has been all trust the science, follow the rules, I work in healthcare so I know what's going on, etc. from the beginning but even she told me she's probably not going to get it and most of her co-workers have said the same.
  18. When I went to ST about 10 years ago there was one there already. My friend who lives in Florida is getting one built near him. He's pretty excited.
  19. That's me too until I actually sit down and watch. After an inning or two I'm looking for something else to do. By the time the kids are in bed and I have time for myself the Brewers are usually in the 6th or 7th inning so I check the score to see if it's worth turning on. Most times I do but rarely do I pay close attention to it. Maybe it's 3TO baseball, maybe it's just being an adult and having other things to do but a baseball game on TV doesn't hold my attention like it used to.
  20. I wonder if the demand for broadcasting a whole game from start to finish live of just about any sport is going away. I keep reading that the youngins only care about the highlights and just don't sit and watch a whole game through. Perhaps we're about to see the rise of more things like NFL RedZone and whatever the other leagues call their channels that just switch to whatever games have interesting things going on at the time.
  21. I really went out of my comfort zone drafting this year and reached on the rookie RB's Gibson, Akers, and Dobbins figuring at least one of them would quickly be a lead back and be a high RB2 or better. Mixon was my first pick thinking the Bengals would lean on him hard with a rookie QB. Well Mixon was flat out bust before getting hurt which killed that strategy and I was streaming 2 different RB's every week because none of those rookies were anything until about week 10 when Gibson finally became the guy in Washington. I finished 10th out of 12 which is a little bit deceiving because I was 6th in points and outscored two teams that made the playoffs but this was probably my worst season ever. Irony of all ironies, all 3 of those backs finished the season on my roster and between them were my starters in weeks 15 and 16 in the meaningless consolation playoffs. That was of course after I had dropped Dobbins and Akers weeks earlier. I picked up Herbert after his first start, that's about the only good thing I did all season.
  22. Had him on my fantasy team last year. His whole season's stats are propped up by a few weeks where he hit like Barry Bonds. He was really bad outside of that time. However, I still think he could be a good addition. I'd give up Pina or Nottingham for him but certainly not Navarez or Small.
  23. But, that said, I would agree that for the most part the government has been consistent with distancing + facemasks + handwashing. But the media on the other hand. I can't tell you how many times, once it got into the summer months, I'd be sitting there watching CNN and there would be a reporter on the street and the camera would pan over to a group of 20-somethings sitting around without masks and the reporter would just go into the lecture about how they weren't wearing masks. It was easy to see the danger in this. Not wearing a mask is uncool...which morphs into wearing a mask is cool...which morphs into young people thinking they have the license to do anything if they have a mask on because it's cool. I think there was a TON of that from a big percentage of the media over the summer months. Maybe I'm wrong, obviously we all have different personal experiences. All I can say is that I'm in Madison and work with a bunch of 20-somethings and in the spring those people weren't running around like 20-somethings normally do, and by the fall that completely flipped to hearing the conversations of person 1 going to the brewery this weekend, person 2 hitting this bar on Friday night and that restaurant the following night, person 3 going to a party on Friday night, etc, etc, etc. Some folks, not knowing these people personally, could think they are correct in just saying that we are dealing with 20 year old's and they are simply too restless to stay home for 6 months in a row. But knowing these people, and knowing they are probably a really good representation of young college grads across the state, I feel pretty safe in flat out stating that the attitude is definitely more along the lines of "if I'm wearing a mask I am cool and following the rules and; therefore, anything that I decide to do is a good idea." And yeah, maybe not so much government but definitely the media has a lot to do with that IMO. I wasn't going to comment on the Haskins situation, but cannot resist after reading ESPN's awful coverage on the incident. It's the perfect example of how the media has falsely treated the face-mask like it's the cure-all. I'm assuming by now that everyone has seen the photo. I don't think she is sitting on his lap but he clearly has his arm around her and his nose/mouth looks to be less than 6 inches away from her nose/mouth. And it doesn't look like a position where he just grabbed her on the way by for a photo and then she went on her merry way. It's pretty likely they were like that for at least a couple songs (she isn't likely to walk away knowing all the money he has). And yet the coverage from ESPN was "maskless Haskins photographed" "maskless Haskins photographed" "maskless Haskins photographed." Is there anyone outside of the media that are so stupid that they think a mask really would have made any difference in this situation? Look at the stupidity of this article. https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/30582068/washington-football-team-aware-dwayne-haskins-maskless-strip-club-image-qb-apologizes There isn't one statement in that article that would suggest that Haskins is a total idiot for breaking social distancing rules by partying with strippers. It's all about Haskins "maskless images" (title of article) and " Dwayne Haskins not wearing a mask while attending an event with strippers" once the reader gets into the article. It just boggles the mind that for months the government stated that there was the potential that facemasks could be counter-productive because it would result in people being careless about distancing. And as we saw in Wisconsin, COVID-19 positive cases went up to a high that was nearly 4 times higher than the previous high after the facemask mandate was implemented. And even though we saw cases skyrocket after the mandates, proving the government was likely right the first time, now apparently the new narrative cannot be changed. And the big dumb media keeps promoting the lie as evidenced here...Haskins photographed maskless...instead of the obvious...Haskins photographed with his arm around a stripper with his face within 6 inches of her face. TLDR version, the media is useless and should be ignored. If more people would come to that realization the better the world would be. But now, look at this article I found on "the media".
  24. Good for the Padres for doing something but how often does the super team that wins the offseason wind up doing anything? After all this are they even better than the Dodgers on paper?
  25. With the team buying the stadium I wonder how that will affect things like state baseball and the Driver whatever it is now softball game.
