  1. Banning the 32 post a day weirdo has probably helped. Which one? I only scan through the IGT occasionally and it seems there were at least 3 or 4 posters using it as their personal soap box.
  2. I was just reading about it and looked through the box score. I really can't see what he screwed up and nobody seems to know what the stink was all about either. All umpires conferred on it and they called New York so I can't believe they actually got it wrong. What it was. Fair enough, I keep getting just busy enough at work that I can't punt 10 minutes into figuring it out...or at least I don't want to. I just naturally assume Hernandez making a mistake is most likely. You and everyone else. Everything I've read is basically "I don't know what happened but if Angel Hernandez is involved he obviously screwed up."

  4. I'm pretty sure he was on the receiving end of the "savages" rant a few days ago... Correct. So nice to see an ump his age not turn it into a show. I’m sure a lot of people think it was cool but the ump is the one that held his. What he should have done was ignore him and walk away. Make Boone look like more of an idiot than he already did.
  5. Laid off the curve and got a heater. Good adjustment. I'm just givin ya a little grief, no worries. Say as many negative things as you want about Arcia...gotta love his attitude. A guy throws at his head...and he's smiling half way to 1st base. You never see him puff out his chest like some players... Arcia also screams like a baby if a pitch is an inch off the inside of the plate.
  6. Is it too early to discuss how we are going to waste the prime years of Huira and Yelich like we did Braun and Fielder? (half blue)
  7. I'm not going to say Hook is a good pitching coach but he had a hand in developing Woodruff, Burnes, and Peralta. Guys who at least garnered some prospect status and have had varying levels of MLB success. DJ was responsible for developing pitchers for the Cubs for a few years and I can't think of any pitcher of note that came out of their system.
  8. Just taking a quick look at the Reds pitchers I see a Castillo that has greatly improved, Mahle and DeSclafani putting up similar numbers as last year, and then Gray and Roark replacing the trash of Sal Romano, Homer Bailey, and Matt Harvey. I think simply having better pitchers is helping the Reds quite a bit.
  9. It is impossible that DJ is the reason a whole organization of pitchers went from above average to absolute trash. There is just no way one person is the cause for the total and utter demise of about 15 different player's pitching ability.
  10. Thought I'd take a chance and watch today for the first time in a week or so hoping they might play well. Guess not.
  11. The number of teams that have a traded for a pitcher who was a bonafide #1/ACE/stud/top flight pitcher at the time of the trade is pretty slim. Even more so are the guys who were acquired with multiple years of control. These guys are drafted/developed and given brinks trucks in free agency.
  12. Percentage of teams that make the playoffs each season: NBA: 53% NHL: 52% NFL: 38% MLB: 27% or 33% (depending how you feel about the wild card game) MLB is the "hardest" to make the playoffs out of every major league. It's not surprising teams don't make the playoffs consecutively very often based simply on the numbers. I understand this is in no way a perfect way to look at things as the odds of making the playoffs are not technically exactly the same for every team each season. But the point is if you doubled the number of teams that make the playoffs in MLB more teams are going to have more "success". I also don't think you can simply look at postseason appearances when determining success. Regular season wins has to be the determining factor. Almost every year there are teams with records that would win a division that don't even make the post season or lose the wild card game. Hard to call having a top 5 record in your league but not advancing to the "final four" a not successful season. I do agree with your overall premise though. It's incredibly frustrating to watch this team put together a great season and follow it up with a series of popcorn farts.
  13. Are bags slowing things down really an issue? I haven't been to Miller Park in a couple years but from what I remember the security people take about 3 seconds to look in a bag no matter the size.
  14. Don't know what the "official" ruling should be but that sounds acceptable to me.
  15. Also lame that the Angels threw at Marisnick's head. I know why and I personally have no problem with beanball wars but if they're going to whine about that play at the plate throwing at a guy's head seems like a rather hypocritical response.
  16. A couple nights ago a Phillies pitcher was tossed after hitting Justin Turner in the leg with a slider. An absolutely ridiculous act by the umpire. So ridiculous in fact, that Turner himself was arguing there was no intent behind the pitch. The next night a different Phillies pitcher drills David Freese in the back with a fastball and is tossed as well. This one almost certainly intentional. JT Realmuto set up outside and right after Freese was hit he threw up his hands in a very much *** are you doing fashion and shook his head.
  17. Cubs probably just trying to dump some cash and get a player that will help them if even only for a couple weeks. They'll probably DFA Martin when Contreras is back.
  18. He's been Trashner up until this season. Hard to expect much of a return for him.
  19. You bring up a point that I've been considering for weeks now, "suspicious of his influence on a pitching staff". As much as the loss of Derek Johnson has been discussed as the cause of the underwhelming performance of the majority of the pitching staff, I have wondered if Grandal could be part of the problem with the staff? There has been an underlying theory following Grandal for a while that pitchers don’t like throwing to him. As far back as five years ago in San Diego there were three starting pitchers that wouldn’t (or at least didn’t) throw to him in Tyson Ross, Andrew Cashner and Ian Kennedy. However, after he went to the Dodgers, Zack Greinke said the following about Grandal: Then last year the Dodgers obviously benched him in the playoffs, but that was seemingly due to the defensive issues and not a mismanagement of the pitching staff. I haven’t really heard much out of the Brewers pitchers this year one way or another. I still side with the idea that the Brewers pitchers struggles aren’t directly attributed to Grandal in anyway, but I’m open to being proven wrong. It would certainly be fascinating to get a candid answer to that question from those within the pitching staff (something we won’t likely ever get). Every pitcher outside of Davies and Woodruff has regressed hardcore from last year. I'm sure a lot of those guys had some career years but something is up for just about every single pitcher to fall flat on their face. Losing DJ hurt a little I bet but there's not way he can be the sole reason for it. And I'm not putting all the blame on Grandal either. It's probably a combination of the two. Didn't Kershaw have his own non-Grandal personal catcher? And not always the same guy each year? That seems suspicious. And I never know what to make of anything Greinke says. He very well could have said all that with total sarcasm behind it and just never showed it. I would bet he probably just does his own thing anyway and doesn't care about what the catcher wants.
  20. "Talking" and "Have interest in" are two completely different things. Also, who knows what Brodie wants. Based on his previous moves I can't see him going for a total rebuild trade of far off minor leaguers. He's probably looking for MLB ready guys. Arcia, Burnes, Peralta are certainly guys he'd be looking at. Huira and Hader too but they're not going anywhere, or shouldn't be.
  21. Avoid the tag on the back side. Taking the "clear path" to the back side was an easy out. Go the opposite way Lucroy would instinctually go and you have a chance at being safe.
