  1. Pretty sure the Cardinals would have protested the game and refused to play if Correa did that against them.
  2. I like the option, in case of the over the top missed call in the NFCCG last season, however coaches need to have better discretion of when to use it. It must be 100% clear and compelling. Very rare that you will see one of those missed. It should come from a replay booth or whatever you want to call it. All replay should come from a 3rd party. However, the claims of leagues pre-determining winners and losers will get even louder.
  3. Also, Molina had a bat flip to end all bat flips. Moron. https://ftw.usatoday.com/2019/10/nlds-cardinals-braves-yadier-molina-epic-bat-flip I thought of this exact scenario. Cardinals have their own double standard on things. It’s only disrespectful if it’s against them. I can only imagine the postgame comments from the Cardinals’ clubhouse if someone else were to do that after beating them. I can't wait till Molina is gone. Biggest piece of trash to ever step on a baseball field. The final Saturday of the season his antics led to the benches clearing against the Cubs. Hamels lightly grazed his jersey on a pitch that was probably an inch off the plate. Hamels immediately turned around disgusted with himself for the pitch while Molina immediately started jaw jacking at him. Like really. Get over yourself trash bag.
  4. If you didn't hate the Cardinals enough already, head over to Twitter and watch Mike Schilt's profanity-laced post game speech after they beat the Braves. To sum it up for you, the Braves "started something" and the Cardinals "finished it" (you can mentally add a bunch of F bombs where ever you like to get the full feel of it). What it must feel like to a member of the Cardinals where you view everything that happens on the field through the lens of respect or playing the "right way" or any other crap. If you haven't yet, go read "Three Nights in August" to get in the head of Tony LaRussa. One of the things he laments in the book is how every time one of his batters get hit he needs to decide if it was on purpose and how and when to retaliate. Nothing would make me happier than to see that whole organization burned to the ground and the ashes shot into the sun.
  5. This is where the lawyers will make their money. And they are going to make a killing.
  6. Wouldn't the California schools be banned from bowl games/NCAA tournament? Or at least any players that took money. This is a California law. It has no bearing on the NCAA rules. Even though the state law may allow college players to be compensated for some things, the NCAA is going to destroy any players (and probably also their schools) that do so making the whole thing irrelevant for now. I do look forward to the years of legal battles this is going to lead to before the NCAA finally gives in/loses and at least allows players to profit from their own name.
  7. I really don't see what the big deal is. He's not demanding, just suggesting. And suggesting someone who has had quite a bit of success as a manager before.
  8. In 2019, lowest WHIP and BB/9 of his career. Highest K/9. His H/9 and HR/9 were up a bit. Maybe advanced stats show something concerning but I'll just chalk his 2019 homer problem up to variance of a small sample and juiced ball. I think the biggest issue here is perception. If a starting pitcher has an increased homerun rate but everything else is the same or better it's not going to be as noticeable since the homers are coming in innings 1-5 or so. If a reliever's HR rate goes it's going to be very noticeable as he'll be losing games.
  9. Brett Favre talks about this exact thing after Super Bowl XXXI in the America's Game special. As Holmgren was giving the championship speech, Favre was in the shower thinking about how empty it felt. He talks about thinking "Is this it?" and realizing there were no more games. Rodgers had a similar thought, I remember reading an interview of him being on the bus right after, leaving the stadium, and thinking to himself "I hope this isn't the only thing I do." I'm with them. When I think about the Brewers hypothetically winning a World Series it will make me happy for about an hour, if that. When I wake up the next morning, absolutely nothing about my life will have changed for the better or worse. Life will just go on as it as every day before that.
  10. In every sport there is only one champion at the end of the year. Unless you're a fan of the Boston area teams, you're only likely to see your favorite team win it all once or twice in your lifetime. That has nothing to do with budgets, management, market size, whatever. It's just a numbers game. Basing your fandom on winning titles is setting yourself up to be disappointed after just about every single season is over.
  11. He hits a 3 run shot to tie or win the game, he'll be on the next roster. I don't know why that would make a difference. He's been beyond terrible all year and one AB isn't going to change that. His and Taylor's spots will go to pitchers. How either of them performs today will be irrelevant to whether or not they make the NLCS roster.
  12. No, it can be changed before every series. Which is why I don't know why everyone is freaking out about Shaw. He's only on the roster for today. When they win, his spot will go to a pitcher and he won't be active again unless someone gets hurt.
  13. I started reading that and stopped after a few paragraphs. Basically the same stuff agents have been screaming the last couple years about collusion and what not. I'm sure there are some owners that are drooling over the potential cost savings but to me there's enough evidence that any money saved would just be a bonus. Take a look at all the guys over the last few years that have come out of nowhere to become big time players. The vast majority of them did so after after working with private coaches in the offseason to make changes. Obviously you need to play games. You can't just go from facing no competition to playing in the majors. But I just really wonder how much more players could develop if they eliminated the lower minors or even cut down the schedule to only a few games a week. I'd be curious to know how many doubleheaders teams in the Midwest League play each year. Is there really much to be gained from playing two games in one day and then spending 8 hours on a bus before playing another game on only a couple hours sleep? Keep all these really young guys in one location, monitor and coordinate their sleep, nutrition, and conditioning and see how well they develop. Just seems like a no brainer to me.
  14. Why would he assume we'd complain? It's not like there is a rivalry between us and them. Probably a dig at rainout gate from last year or whenever that was.
  15. Whatever. They have nothing to play for. Why risk anything by playing guys in pointless games. Sucks for the Brewers if they sweep the Rockies and the Cubs get pounded and swept but that's not Maddon's problem. And for all the talk about wanting to spoil it for the Cards and get revenge for getting swept last week, I really doubt the players care anymore.
  16. And the big league club sees none of that. It would probably be a huge cost savings for a major league team to dump a few minor league affiliates and instead invest some money in their spring training complex to accommodate 100 or so players all year round and do the majority of their player development there.
  17. People still don't get all the channels or shows they want with any one streaming service and have to pick and choose. So while cable may be close to death its major flaws have just been shifted to another platform.
  18. His kids were probably running out there. He has three you know.
  19. He's been really, really good at times and really, really bad at others. Ya, I'd like to have him back next year but I think he's just as likely to fully implode and be DFA'd as he is to be a valuable bullpen piece for a whole season.
  20. I had this exact thought last year during my high school JV season. I was looking at the kids sitting on my bench thinking, "That kid can't swing a bat and that kid can't catch a ball, does playing a couple innings of a JV game really help them develop as a player? Wouldn't they be better off just practicing every day instead?" I know if you told a bunch of freshmen that being on the baseball team meant practicing for three months and never playing or even going to an actual game you would have about zero kids go out, so that's not really a workable idea. I think this could be very effective in pro baseball. I would say keep Triple A and Double A and eliminate every below. Basically run your development system like a season-long spring training. Most of the time is just practice and drills. Bring in another club to play a game against once or twice a week and then "graduate" players to your actual minor league teams. Same as with my JV kids, I really wonder how much more you could learn without constantly playing games and instead having time to stop and work on things in a controlled environment. And I really like the idea of putting everyone together. I remember as a JV high school player I learned as much if not more from being around and practicing with the juniors and seniors than just having coaches give us instructions. I'm thinking about international signings here. Right now you've got a 16 year old from the Dominican and he's playing and practicing with other 16 year olds who are at the same stage as he is. Put that kid with some 21, 22 year olds from the same culture and who have been through it before and I think he's going to be more comfortable and you'll probably get more out of him. I've been wanting to make a post about this for awhile but never had time to sit down and think it through. But basically from my untrained and unprofessional opinion, the current minor league system does not get the most out of players and ditching games for more "practice" and training would be more effective. You get a few at bats a game and you may not even have a ball hit to you on defense. However, the numbers of reps you can get at a practice are almost limitless.
  21. The Pirates should get a much better deal for Bell. As what should be a rebuilding club, they have no use for Thames or Davies. The minor leaguers we would give up are nothing special. As a Brewer fan, go ahead and make that deal but I just can't see anything like that happening.
  22. I thought his antics in Oakland were pretty obviously just an act to get released and the news coming out after that he sought help from social media experts on what to do to get released certainly make that look very likely. However, he's completely gone off the deep end since. It's definitely looking like he has some sort of psychological or brain issues on top of being a trash person.
  23. I think there is a very strong suitor for Cole in the LA Angels.. Apparently he grew up 10 minutes from their park and as a huge Angels fan.. That would be such an Angels move too. He makes them better but not significantly and signing Cole would mean he, Pujols, and Trout are making about $100 million a season between them. Add in Justin Upton and that's about $125M for 4 players. That's about the Brewers whole payroll this year. Good luck putting together a halfway decent team with the budget space you have left without a top flight minor league system.
  24. Dubon's 1 for 7 last night make his numbers look less impressive now. Especially that sub .300 OBP.
