  1. don't think there would of been a trade-match for Shields: 1) Rays had no need for Cain because they have Desmond Jennings 2) I'm not sure if they would of taken Escobar because they were high on Reid Brignac.....but they would today 3) they would take Odoriozzi & Jeffress 4) they needed a MLB ready closer, not sure of their interest in Axford......and a MLB ready 1B
  2. agree, the Muts are crazy.....they deserve to be stuck with Beltran then watch him wave bye-bye via free agency.....per the Atlanta papers the latest is Beltran & Boras have a clause in the contract that Beltran can NOT be offered arbitration this winter therefore the team holding his contract will NOT get draft choices.....YIKES 1) Phillies.....Muts want Dom Brown + more.....you've got to be kidding 2) Braves.... Muts have been scouting Minor but would "settle" for any of the big 4 (Teheran, Delgado, Vizcaino) .....please Braves, just say "no" 3) Giants.... see above ....also a joke
  3. without even looking at numbers, my guess Catfish Hunter Mike Hampton
  4. +1 JB12! .....you hit the key points D) the more Betemit plays the better he produces ....he's not the type of hitter that can be productive with only a couple of starts per week E) he strikes out too much so don't expect him to be the "cure-all" for the #5-hole blues
  5. Draft pick compensation & arbitration must go-away.... It's biased toward the rich teams......because they can afford to offer arbitration to marginal, underachievers ....and if those players accept arbitration they can afford to keep the bloated contract
  6. so Roenicke is going to pitch Narveson at the expense of making Gallardo, Grienke , and Marcum wait an extra day? The Cardinals must be pleased that their job was made easier
  7. 1) agree with the above logic regarding holding Marcum back a few days to allow him extra time to recover from injury 2) Narveson at #2: If you look at the July schedule the only off day is on the 25th, which would be Narveson's normal turn.....therefore he will be skipped on that date 3) probables for the Giants: based on the announced rotation for the Rockies, look for Marcum on the 22nd, Wolf on the 23rd, and Gallardo on the 24th
  8. Rasmus doesn't get along with LaRussa.....IIRC Rasmus insists on using some outsider as hitting coach, not McGwire..... Whether it's part of a Rasmus deal or a separate one the Cards want another southpaw for their pen who can deal with Prince in the late innings.....it seems logical that they'd want a starting pitcher in exchange for Rasmus
  9. the roof makes Miller Park hitter friendly.....when it's open there's a jet-stream affect blowing out.....when it's closed there's no wind but it's still friendly with those short dimensions.... the bias is obvious when looking at the Brewers hitting stats: HOME: #1 in NL in homers (63), average (.279), OBP (.351) and slugging (.466) ROAD: #6 in homers (40), #13 in average (.234), #15 in OBP (.289) and #14 in slugging (.360)
  10. Davis is playing a little LF in AAA in addition to 1B & 3B...he's still only 25 so there's some upside; maybe a Branyan or Rob Deer quality of career? ...it's hard to ignore his AAA numbers 368/413/842 ....and respectable numbers in Texas earlier this season: 269/333/481 ....but Gamel > Davis btw.... Texas has a very nice collection of position prospects in their farm especially at SS & CF .....but a little short in pitching prospect depth ....keep an eye on Texas to be a trade partner but not until the winter meetings
  11. I'm happy for Pirate fan..... they have a great tradition and it's great to see them winning & filling their fine ballpark ....man, I used to enjoy watching those fine teams with Clemente, Stargell, Sanguillen, Matty Alou, and later Dave Parker, Al Oliver, etc They're not a threat this year; they're about two years away from being a serious threat ....I admire how their new management hasn't panicked & is building their farm system
  12. The Dallas Fort Worth metroplex has great food! * too many Tex-Mex joints to mention but a brisket -taco is a must * BBQ....try the famous Sonny Bryan's Smokehouse in Dallas ....kind of %%@$#%-in-the-wall joint but it's outstanding * I'm a big fan of Chef Tim Love (may of seen him as on "Iron Chef" where he whopped Bobby Flay) ....Love owns two restaurants in the Fort Worth Stockyards district: "Lonesome Dove Western Bistro" ....lots of variety including traditional Texas BBQ ...and boar, elk, etc ....and "The Love Shack," a classic burger joint
  13. July 2 is the 1st day for signing international prospects.....the Yankees signed a pitcher for over $1 million.....and the Royals made a big splash by spending $3 million!!!!!
  14. Prince to the ATL makes sense EXCEPT for the Braves horrible ownership situation.....since Comcast took over ownership of the Braves in the mid-2000's the payroll has been cut from $105+ million to the current $82-or-so..... so this move will never happen even though the Braves have the pieces that Brewers would demand (Freeman, Delgado, and maybe an underrated SS prospect like Pastornicky who's close to major league ready) ....but the Braves are still hurting from that Texeira from Texas $+!++-slap (imagine the Braves if they still had Andrus, Feliz, Harrison & Saltalemacchia) & will be gun-shy to make that kind of bold move again ATL really needs a commodity like Prince to put fannies in the seats btw.... the CEO of Comcast has a salary + bonuses of $67 million a year....ugh
  15. gotta keep him..... If you lose Fielder & Grienke then the message your sending to the team & fans is "rebuilding mode" & I can't see Mark A tolerating that..... the cost of replacing Grienke (via free agency because there's no prospect that will be ready in the near future) would be very expensive.....
  16. it's pretty obvious that Grienke is a fragile, high maintenance type of guy...... MAYBE he needs a more experienced catcher .....for example, Pudge Rodriguez ...someone who knows when to pat him on the back yet has the cache/respect to kick him in the ass when needed I'm not saying throw Lucroy under the bus; but maybe have a designated catcher for Grienke with Lucroy handling the other 4-starters
  17. and that's one of the reasons why I would make Prince the favorite....nothing against Braun but I'd go with Prince.......just saying McCann deserves to be in the mix
  18. and without a threat like Prince protecting him in the batting order
  19. I nominate Brian McCann.... He's carrying a playoff team on his back....take his bat out of the lineup & you're looking at the worst offense in the NL He's clutch.....looking at the key splits: "late/close": 317/440/585 runners in scoring position: 344/481/541 2-outs: 346/443/538 ....and he's one of the very best defensive catchers despite his throwing stats (ATL pitchers have never held runners) ......he's managing a staff with the 2nd best ERA in the NL that features three young starters (25, 24, and 24), a 23 year old closer, and the two setup men are both only 26
  20. what value does Furcal provide when he spends 90% of the time on the DL? Melvin & Hardy are oil & water.....not gonna happen
  21. Alcides Escobar is really heating-up.....in his first 18 games in June he's raking .369/.397/.523 & has raised his average to .255
  22. Herrera throws as hard as a 55 year old CPA at Brewers fantasy camp ....sad
  23. Keep Fielder the strategy is "all in" and there's no reason to change it .....this team is going nowhere in the playoffs without Prince who knows when the Brewers will have another chance like this year?
  24. * nice, easy delivery....and he uses his height & high release point to get good downward movement on his pitches.....like it! * that has to be a fast-gun....no way he's throwing 95 (and as someone said above he's not missing many bats), but I'd guess it's "easy" 91-93 & that's good enough given the downward bite in his fastball * that curveball needs a lot of work as someone mentioned above.... not much late bite ....but there's potential to make it a plus-pitch * location is good (generally hits the catchers target)
