  1. read the above post from Mark Bowman....it was a bebuttal to Rosenthal's earlier post....the Braves have no interest in Hart, who they consider a more exprensive Jeff Francoeur (although IMHO Hart's defense is not in the same league as Francoeur's)
  2. 1) the Braves plan to trade only one of their starters....they currently have 6 & want to get down to 5 2) the Braves, or any one else for that matter, don't want Suppan's crazy-bad contract ....as a Braves fan (and Brewers fan; 1a & 1b), I'll bite & play along: * Lowe ...Brewers assume all of the contract then he could be had straight up for Hart * Vazquez ....Gamel & a prospect (keep in mind the Braves gave the White Sox a damn good prospect in Tyler Flowers & another prospect last winter; Frank Wren (GM) has to protect his reputation by not accepting less than what he gave up to get Vazquez
  3. the Braves aren't giving away any of their starters.....they need a proven, quality right handed bat in return
  4. ...but the risk you face is IF Cameron and/or Lopez fail to get a reasonable free agent offer from another ball club and decide to accept the arbitration ruling (which will undoubtedly be much higher than their 2009 salary), then the budget money earmarked for pitching & other players is gone.... money doesn't grow on trees....
  5. too many people on this board fail to recognize that the team must account for guaranteed salary increases due players already under team control like Fielder, Braun, Riske, etc ....Fielder, for example, is due a salary increase from $6.5mm to $10.5mm plus another $0.5mm in performance bonuses (500 plate appearances).....not to mention salary increases for guys like Hart & Bush, assuming they're not non-tendered
  6. I'd take the conservative route and not offer arby to any of the cats mentioned above.... The economy sucks & free agent contracts for average players will be lower than recent years....if a team is willing to be patient & wait out the process..... However, arbitration is still a pooch-screw & many players will find that will be their best route to getting big $$$$$$
  7. Ankiel would be valuable....he can play both RF & CF at a very high level (IMHO one of the two best OF arms in the league along with Francoeur) ....gives the manager flexibility to pinch hit for Gomez late in the game when you have Ankiel to play CF (sorry fans, Gerut doesn't cut it in CF) ....unfortunately, there isn't such a thing as a bargain Boras client
  8. Bush would be an awfully expensive swingman.....IMHO he's either in the rotation or non-tendered
  9. Lowe is healthy & still brings his normal velocity....his problem last season was he couldn't locate his sinker.... there's no reason he shouldn't return to his normal form.....and his sinkerball style is perfect for the hitters-biased Miller Park
  10. Are there even any star pitchers available on the market? It seems to me like 20 teams are going to be fighting over about 5 good but not great starting pitchers.BINGO! ...the price for quality starting pitching will be high with limited supply & high demand..... Also, don't count out the Angels resigning Lackey....they'd be foolish not to
  11. ....we're both right .....I consult for Fortune 500 companies and "m" represents thousands & "mm" is millions
  12. If COTS is right, the Brewers owe Weathers $400m for buying out 2010....right??????? What is the 2010 salary budget? ....what people are forgetting (from the Hardy trade thread) is that the team is looking at $8.15mm in total salary increases for Fielder, Hoffman, Looper (assuming he comes back), Riske, Braun and the aforementioned Weathers' buyout..... ....not to mention salary increases for Gallardo, Bush, Hart, Weeks, Gerut, McClung, Coffey, etc.....
  13. DeRosa is a product of the Braves farm system....not the Cubs
  14. The AFL is historically a hitters-biased league.....the elevation combined with rock-hard infields are two of the reasons....and pitchers focusing on improving their out-pitchers, like Butler.... ...so, don't get too down on the pitching stats or overly excited by the hitters numbers....
  15. I hate the Yankees but give the devil their due; they know their baseball stuff....if they release Wang it's for good reason
  16. keep McGehee! ....he's salary controlled & productive; what's not to like? ....and IMHO he's not a flash in the pan; unlike Hall, CM has a short stroke & doesn't strike out very often so he won't be prone to long slumps....
  17. I'm a Braves fan & wouldn't trade Hanson and/or Heyward....gotta build the team around those two plus Jurrjens & McCann but I'm also a Brewers fan & wouldn't trade Braun....not only is he a proven star but, like Fielder, he puts fannies in the seats & that is an important fact that must not be underestimated should the team have another sub-.500 season.... also the Brewers offense is "top heavy" with Braun & Fielder carrying most of the load so they can't afford to trade either ....if the team had a balanced 1 thru 8 attack they could consider a trade of one of those cats
  18. I've got a hunch the Braves will go with Matt Diaz in LF & Jason Heyward in RF.....therefore they don't need Hart ....Rafael Soriano & Mike Gonzalez are both free agents & they'll probably only resign one of them ....therefore a top setup man like Coffey would fill a need for the Braves & might be enough for the Brewers to land Kawakami
  19. the games are so long that they've become unwatchable (unless the Braves or Brewers are playing)
  20. Isn't Melvin already doing this with Capuano?
  21. You're kidding yourself if you think you're going to get Hudson for 3/30 .....it will be much, much higher than that.... He just built a new home in Alabama; the Braves are a big favorite to resign him
  22. this deal does make sense and appears fair for both parties....however, IMHO there is a lot of risk for the Braves: 1) Hart hasn't hit for about 1.5 years....hmmm 2) the Braves could go with Matt Diaz in LF & give the RF job to Jason Hayward....is Hart better than either of these cats??????? I really like Kawakami & IMHO he's better than his numbers....they're skewed by a poor April when he was adjusting to a new country & MLB; after that he was a solid, quality start machine
  23. ...an age of 23/24 in a high-A league raises a red flag in the projectability category....how much better is he going to get? especially when compared to talented 19/20 year old prospects.... BA's ratings aren't perfect, it's just their way of evaluating talent....I consider BA the "anti-moneyball" although that's not 100% fair
  24. I stopped being a serious Brewers fan when Bud Lite dumped Molitor ....
