  1. Thanks for posting, and yes you're right. Both SP and RP have pretty much been equally bad. Both seem to be bottom five in basically every pitching category imaginable. Not sure why I thought I'd be able to pull some positive news from this breakout.... Sorry for the downer.
  2. Does anybody know where to find a detailed statistical breakout showing starting pitching vs relief pitching by team? Specifically I’m interested to see where the Brewers rank in terms of innings per start (IPS), starting pitcher ERA, and etc. But my search has come up empty. I am curious to see how much water Macha’s complaint holds in terms of IPS vs other teams. Not that I think the starters have been good, but I think the relief pitching is skewering these numbers.
  3. i agree that this is a sham. they should play elsewhere in canada or at a neutral site. mexico, peurto rico, i don't know but not in philly... that's lousy
  4. I'm hoping to see Gallardo come out for the 6th. If he walks another batter then pull him. I think he can handle 120 pitches. That's not really based on anything in particular, but neither are calls to pull him after the magic 100 pitch count, in my opinion. The D'backs announcers will not stop buzzing over Zaun's play "one of the best plays I've ever seen a catcher make"
  5. I agree with prophet and would have to say that in general I am a sucker for young talent hype. It makes for a good story. Like how will Aroldis Chapmon's 102 MPH fastball translate into success in the big leagues? Even if he flops, it's a story I'm very interested in seeing play out. Therefore, I can see why the baseball media jumps on these guys. It seems like this year is a particularly talented class with Strasburg coming up pretty soon too. If you're bothered by the Heyward hype I would say brace yourself for Steven Strasburg's debut.
  6. 19-9 6 + 8 + 4 = 18
  7. At this point in the season I think the only Brewer regulars who have a better average than Gomez are Braun, McGehe and Edmonds.
  8. If that is the lineup it sucks. I know lineups don't' amount to much over the course of a season so any one game is pretty meaningless but why the heck is Gomez #2 and Counsell #6 when Macha somehow thought Counsell should be #2 with Edmonds #6 just a couple days ago? I guess #2 is the fast guy who can bunt spot in the order. Ugh. I'm fine with this, especially when you're talking about Gomez vs Counsell in the 2 spot. Gomez has 13 runs and is 6/6 on stolen bases and has sat out a significant amount of games 20 games into the season. I predict he will score tonight. His average has also been creeping up, .274 with on base at .318 which is pretty much the exact same as Escobar now. Not too long ago a bunch of people were complaining about how stupid it was to have Gomez #2 instead of Escobar. Again I'm not seeing much of a difference there either. I'm sure there are reasons why I'm wrong but again I predict Gomez scores some runs tonight.
  9. Nope, couldn't survive a year without baseball. The lockout was torture enough.
  10. I would love the chance to see the Brewers prospects more often. On the flip side though, I actually kind of like the way that a lot of AAA teams are located in fairly large cities that do not have MLB nearby. It seems fair to spread out the talent pool so that people across the country have a chance to see a high level of baseball. Nashville, for example, is about 4-5 hours from Cincinnati or Atlanta, and they don't have an MLB team in state. Other AAA cities that are well distanced from MLB include New Orleans, Albequerque, OK City, Charlotte, Durham, SLC, Memphis, Vegas. If Madison gets the Brewers AAA affiliate, then what happens to baseball in Nashville?
  11. Yes, very quiet. Feels like I'm sitting in one of the many empty sections of Pirates stadium
  12. Any thoughts on Rob Dibble as an announcer? This guy has been brutal all day with his grunts every time the Nats put the ball in play. What was he talking about the Yankees giving the Brewers $80m in revenue sharing? I never heard any such figure. His comments sounded perfectly N Sync with Joe Morgan's.
  13. this is hilarious watching Joe Mather pitch for the Cards. He has to have the worst looking MLB pitcher delivery I've ever seen.
  14. 6 shutout innings for Sheets tonight, 2.65 ERA after 3 starts. Looks like perhaps we're starting to see there was absolutely no meaning behind that spring training headline in the subject header. I don't mind the Brewers saying goodbye at $10m+, but I'm rooting for the guy. I watched part of his performance tonight and he looked stellar.
  15. I think they are going with a platoon with Edmons vs righties and Hart vs lefties unless someone can prove they deserve better (or worse) than that. Last night in the 8th the Cardinals had Jason Motte (RHP) up in the bullpen when Edmonds came to bat against Reyes (LHP). So the decision was to go with Edmonds rather than bring Hart in to presumably face Motte.

  17. Fatter Than Joey and sheetskout predicted last season's record perfectly at 80-82. Fatter than Joey provided no explanation and sheetskout's comments were pretty much spot on including "THEIR PITCHING BLOWS! (Although I think Gallardo makes strides to improve, but not dominate yet)" Guys, we are looking forward to your 2010 prediction.
  18. I just read on the Brewers site that they are now doing a split squad game with the Rangers on Thursday so that Parra and Bush can both get another turn in the competition. If anyone has further information about this that would be greatly appreciated. Does that mean the B game will be at Maryvale and will it be at the same time? Any information including time of both games, location, rosters would be great. I'll be there and would prefer Maryvale for a game because of location. Thanks
  19. I was at a Brewers vs Nationals game last year. - I also felt that tickets for the Nationals were overpriced, both from the team and on stubhub. If you like to go cheap and don't mind the upper deck, they have $5 day-of-game tickets available at the box office. It was recommend to me to get there 2 hours early to be safe and get these tickets, but I had no problem buying 4 of them less than 30 minutes before the game. It might be different this April compared to last August or September when the life was sucked out of the Nats fans so try and get there early. It seemed like we could've easily snuck into better seats but didn't because it was super hot and humid and we liked the shade. -Wear your brewers gear to the game. Plenty of brewers fans were there last year. I don't think DC is a very hostile town when it comes to sports, or at least not when it comes to the nationals. - I agree with the person who said they have good food options. I was eating the whole game and loved everything. - Not trying to deter your excitement, but I also agree with the person who said "prepare to be underwhelmed by their stadium". Of all the modern/post-Camden stadiums I've been to, I thought Nationals Park was the least remarkable. I appreciate the stadium's whole Green/LED structure, but unfortunately that didn't translate into an impressive looking design. Nevertheless it is a fine place to watch a ballgame and especially the Brewers. I doub it but might go back this year.
  20. But can it be done in November or January??? Can be done here.Actually the winters in Southern Idaho are not that cold, nothing compared to Wisconsin. Hiking would be fine pretty much all year. Bicycling would be brisk but doable. You would want to avoid kayaking in the winter. However I am pretty sure that a kayaking enthusiast would rather be surrounded by the best kayaking rivers for six months a year than whatever Texas has to offer for a whole year. Moreover, I am pretty sure that most outdoor enthusiasts living in the Rocky Mountains or out West welcome the winter because this is when they get to go skiing or snowboarding. They have some of the best ski resorts in the country in Idaho, such as Sun Valley and Tamarack Mountain. They also have lesser known mountains that are more affordable but also outstanding, like Schweitzer Mountain and Bogus Basin just outside Boise. I think it's great that you love your home state of Texas so much, but to suggest that the outdoor activities in Texas are anywhere near comparable to Idaho seems insane to me. I know tons of people who travel or move to the Rocky Mountain region, including Idaho, primarily because of their love for outdoor adventure. Never in my life have I heard of anyone moving or even traveling to Texas for outdoor adventure. And using a video of Green Acres to characterize all of Idaho is about as fair as if I were to say that George W Bush summarizes all of Texas.
  21. Yes, one can hike, bicycle and kayak in every single state in the nation. Obviously there are outdoor activities to be had in Texas, but compared to other states I don't think Texas would be ranked as remarkable, not above average. Comparatively, Idaho is known to have some of the best mountain and park areas in the country for fishing, camping, hiking, kayaking, skiing, and practically all things outdoors. And compared to other states in the Northwest, Idaho is still very cheap while it has similar or better offerings. I'm glad you like Austin and Texas so much, but there is no way it compares to Idaho when it comes to outdoors, just like Boise does not compare to Austin when it comes to nightlife. Just because one or the other is better it's not like either place is completely lacking in either outdoor activity or nightlife. Weighing it all out, I enthusiastically recommend Boise.
  22. I assume you've never been. Also, if you are going to use that as a standard, I'd like to see the list of things to do in Idaho outside of Boise.Actually I did provide a list of things to do outside of Boise and that list pertained specifically to the original poster's stated interests ("more of an outdoors person", hiking, kayaking). If he hadn't stated interest in these outdoor activities I wouldn't have recommended Boise over Austin. What do you need me to do provide a list of mountains and rivers in Idaho or provide links to pictures? I have no doubt that Austin is a cool place, perhaps even too cool, but I still think the Boise area will be more satisfying to a person with a stated interest in the outdoors.
  23. I would definitely go to Boise over Austin. It's a somewhat small city, but still has plenty of night life and entertainment options and you are not going to have problem with this singles scene concern, especially if you are going to be in college, come on now. The outdoor entertainment options outside of Boise are hard to beat whether you like hiking, rafting, skiing, snowboarding, biking, fishing, or whatever else people do when they are surrounded by beautiful mountains. As far as the outdoors go I think Boise is vastly underrated which means it is not crowded with tourists and the cost of living is relatively low. The also have a rookie league baseball team. Austin seems kind of like a novelty to me. I'd love to visit but don't see many advantages to living there unless you're the kind of person who needs to be surrounded by cutting edge new live music every day. There is nothing to do in Texas outside of Austin.
  24. I had mlb.tv last year for the first time last year and I thought the service was excellent. The picture quality was surprisingly good. If you are out of market you can watch nearly all the Brewers games. If for some reason a game is blocked due to tv restrictions, or if you prefer, you can listen to Eucker on the radio because the tv package includes radio broadcasts. Sometimes the screen would freeze up and I'd have to re-launch the program, but that may have been because of my lousy old computer more so than the mlb.tv application. If some of you prefer the premium package I am curious why? Are there any advantages besides the obvious? Personally I don't need to be able to watch four games at once, and I don't need to listen to Schroeder and Anderson every game. I actually kind of like getting the chance to listen in on other announcers around the league.
  25. Where do you get those figures of $7.5M to $30M per year from? I'm curious because I haven't been able to find operating cost estimates. Is that a low-high range estimate of operating dollars - fare revenue? If so I think that would be fantastic because much of the remainder could realistically be offset by economic benefits of train station area development and job creation, especially at the low end. I actually think that a pretty positive estimate. Even if the cost was $30M a year that is less than 5% of the State's transportation budget. Assuming that an increase in transit budget = a decrease in the road budget, I highly doubt a 5% cut would make our highways represent the 3rd world. Although I don't think that's how they'd budget anyway; there are probably more creative approaches available. I definitely agree that the cost per ticket is concerning. At that cost, if I'm using public transportation to get from Milwaukee to Madison I might just stick with the badger bus even though I'd prefer the train.
