  1. Baltimore is cool. I have visited several times. You're not really going at the best time, but oh well... The one area I specifically remember liking and re-appearing in several times was Hamden. It reminds me a bit of Brady Street only way better... The NY Times recently focused on Baltimore in their 36 hours travel segment, and did a pretty good job I think. Check this article out before going and see if anything suits your interest: http://travel.nytimes.com...0/04/travel/04hours.html
  2. I see your point. I guess it was a poor choice of words because you're right, those games were pretty exciting. I guess I was thinking more in terms of the suspensful game 5. We got 3 sweeps and a 4 game series. To me that's kind of dissapointing because I would've liked to have seen the Rockies, Red Sox and Twins win, or at least pull out some wins. Even in games where it seemed those teams played better they still couldn't pull out a win because of failure to close the door in the 9th.
  3. What was up with closing pitchers in these division series'? By my count, the closers for the four losing teams combined save opportunity rate was 1 for 6. Street blew two of three save opportunities, otherwise the Rockies might be in the NLCS now. Nathan, Papelbon and Franklin all blew their only save opportunity. The only time their team was up in the 9th inning these guys couldn't close the door even after recording two outs and having two run leads. I know Holliday dropped out number 3 but in addition to that Franklin gave up two walks and two hits with two outs to blow the lead and the game and looked aweful. Papelbon looked completely terrible. Nathan might've been tired after pitching more than normal in the play-in, etc and you have to give credit to ARod for his clutch HR. In the end it amounts to a not very exciting first round of the playoffs with 3 sweeps and 1 four game series, and must be disappointing for fans of these teams.
  4. Seems like a square deal to me and good for both teams, but if this were to happen I think the Brewers need to re-sign Cameron or pick up a free agent outfielder because I'm not comfortable with Gerut/Catalanatto or Byrnes(?) being the everyday starters. I wouldn't mind ONE of those guys (mainly gerut) being a starting OF, but not Two of them.
  5. How about Corey Hart for Kenshin Kawakami? http://jorgesaysno.blogspot.com/2009/10/hypothetically-speaking-would-you-trade.html
  6. The Mets have some serious problems with their pitching staff so I don't know that they're going to be looking to trade Maine, one of their (slightly) more reliable pitchers. Francour has been a fan favorite and clubhouse favorite on the mets. Then you have Beltran in center. I guess left field is questionable with Sheffield likely retiring(?) or not being wanted back, but I don't see them wanting Hart.
  7. No way the Marlins are dealing Josh Johnson. That organization is looking to turn the corner in a couple years when the move to Miami and become the Miami Marlins. Josh Johnson has potential to be a cy young pitcher and the Marlins aren't going to move a cornerstone of their team.
  8. Nothing would be more exciting to me than a complete shakeup of the Brewers rotation next year. I like some of the names being thrown around on this thread, particularly the guys who seem like they could realistically be aquired via trade. How about this rotation?: Gallardo, Nolasco, Kawakami, Sheets, Parra If Sheets or Parra can't hack it you still have Narveson or Suppan there to be competitive. Obviously I dont know how Sheets is holding up, but they should look at him. Do you guys realistically think the Marlins would trade Nolasco? I know he had a rocky season but he has great stuff, and going into the season he was their ace, so they obviously think (or thought) highly of him. Gotta love complete speculation
  9. Well, that Tigers/Twins play-in was one of the most exciting games in recent memory, but since the Twins won in 12 I have to revise my prediction. The Yankees will steamroll the Twins in 3 games and go on to lose to the Red Sox in 7 who will lose to the Phillies in the WS.
  10. I like Brian Anderson but sometimes he harps on statistics too repetitively and I get so annoyed that I turn on the radio instead. Then again you can't beat Eucker.
  11. I would've felt more comfortable with about $6M, but fine, this is good news. Hoffman strengthens the entire bullpen and this becomes one less thing to worry about in the offseason.
  12. Tigers win the play in tomorrow by scoring early and often. AL In the biggest surprise of the playoffs, Verlander shuts down the Yankees in games 2 and 5 of the ALDS as the Tigers defeat the Yanks. The Red Sox will edge out the angels 3-2 after battling through some pitching struggles. In the ALCS the Tigers will lose to the Red Sox in game 5 at Fenway Park in a lopsided series. NL The Cardinals will sweep the Dodgers in the NLDS. The Phillies also pull out a sweep over the Rockies. In an NLCS with well rested players, the Phillies win 4 games to 2 as the only two Cardinal wins come on the backs of Chris Carpenter. Significant blame falls on the back of Cy Young Adam Waignwright. World Series Phillies surprise with back to back world series championships as the Red Sox in a classic made for tv drama.
  13. Good point that McClung was replaced by Vargas who outpitched him. Seems like a pretty good decision in my opinion and McClung doesn't really seem to have any grounds for complaining publicly. What's interesting about this thread is that most people seem to agree with management's decision not to play McClung, but most of the posts are about firing Maccha regardless.
  14. I like the idea of Bethoven and Golden Girls as long as it's not overdone. Sounds kind of funny. They probably play it during the opposing teams at bats? Sounds better than the hard rock ala nickleback, creed (whatever) that is already overdone at half the stadiums in mlb and now the minor leagues too.
  15. Hahah, Nate since I'm not living in Wisconsin for a few years now I didn't get a chance to see any games on FSN in 2008 (I had the radio package only), and therefore missed out on the year of Trenni. This year I got the mlb.tv, which is great but one year too late apparantly
  16. SoCal I was thinking the same thing about that Rockie mascot behind home plate. man is that frightening. Well, as I type, Chris Ianetta hr, Rockies win, dang. BUMMER
  17. hahaaa that was awesome. Colorado's announcers: "Just Street's 2nd blown save of the year." "Only Kendell's 9th homerun since 2005." "At one point Kendell went over 1,000 at bats without hitting a homerun." "The braves are celebrating in their clubhouse right now." they are pissed. I'm glad Narveson won't get the loss. 3 runs in 5 innings doesn't sound great but he looked really good tonight. I am liking the idea of him competing with the bums in the rotation. Make them earn their spots next year.
  18. So I'm watching some of the Braves and Rockies on mlb.tv and I think I have to change my mind. After hearing these annoying Braves announcers again and the repetetive 20 year old tomohawk chop again, I am reminded why I hate the Braves so much. Go Rockies!!!! It's your turn to step into the spotlight Mr. Jimenez. Hea Teatoe993, whose that babe in your photo? WoW!!
  19. I agree with JohnBriggs12 that Weeks, Escobar, McGehe and Lopez could feasibly split time with everyone getting their fair share of starts, and I would love to see that happen. But if I was Felipe Lopez I might prefer to sign with a team that is willing to commit to me being the everyday 2nd baseman. He seems worthy of that role.
  20. Yeah but if Cameron, Kendell, Looper and Hardy all are gone next year that's actually about $24M not $10M. So even if that hypothetical $7M turns out to be $10M considering some releivers too, then there is still $14M of the 'single quotation' 'savings'. And like I was saying I'm hoping Attanasio is willing to add on another $5-$10M to the bottom line in order to make things competitive. Definately something to work with either way.
  21. Is anybody else rooting for the Braves to make it into the playoffs? It almost surprises me because I used to hate the Braves for so long, but this year I would much rather see them make it than the Rockies. I feel like I should like the Rockies because they seem like such underdogs, but nothing about their team seems very exciting. Alternatively the Braves have an awesome pitching staff that is maybe the most underrated in the league. I think it could make for a more exciting NLDS if the Cards have to face Vasquez, Hanson, Jurrjens and Lowe. It would be interesting to see how Cox would assign his staff for the playoffs. Lowe was the opening day #1 but in my opinion the other three are all better. Man that's a good staff. If I'm a Cards fan I'm hoping to face the Rockies.
  22. I was thinking about additional payroll for next year so the Brewers have a better team... Not just using money freed up with current free agents. It'd be great if the Brewers use money freed up through Kendell, Looper, Cameron, Hardy (trade) etc and then add on another $10M or so to their current payroll. That would really help add some pitching, not just one average guy for the #3 or #4 spot. As far as I can tell the Red Sox fans have always been very loyal to their team. I know they've been great for most of this decade but they haven't exactly been perennial winners. The first time I saw a game at fenway was in 1994 and the next time I went back was early this season. All the games were sellouts and the atmosphere was exactly as I remember it. In 94 they were coming off of multiple losing seasons and weren't that great a team, and it had been nearly a century since they won a world series. I guess it helps that they have a huge fan base - all of New England. And I think New Englanders are rabid sports fans, more so than most of the country. But they are particularly fond of their red sox compared to patriots or celtics.
  23. It's only 4 runs, not like we haven't come back from bigger defecits. Anyone know what the giveaway is?
  24. Great, hopefully the attendance spike goes towards a free agent signing. I think attendance will still be high next year, maybe not 3 million unless they are at or near the top of the division all year, but it will still be solid. As much as I want to agree, I'm not sure Milwaukee is on par with Boston or St. Louis as far as "baseball cities" go. They are maniacs, especially at Fenway.
  25. Lots of focus on Guthrie here... It seems like a realistic trade possibility, but there must be about a dozen other options to brainstorm. Any new ideas?
