LOL...ahh...it's already in the garbage. So....I'm just gonna complain about it for a while, tell my sister she owes me the money and I'm gonna include it in the rent that she SELDOM pays(she just charges the people below her more which she can't do) and take it with a grin At least I don't usually use the bed. In fact, it hadn't been on the truck for a while. I'd only had it on because of the recent rain and someone else had borrowed the truck and didn't want anything to get wet. Anyway, I love this section of the board. No arguing, just others with whom we can commiserate with!
-
That would have been my first thought. The problem is my sister can go from zero to...err...unpleasant REALLY quickly. And there is this lady who lives next to her that is in her 80's. All she does is watch, and where the house is, there's a park across the street and the river behind. So when I bought it, I gave her and her son my number(kinda knowing she could be a problem and my sister wouldn't be very diplomatic). So she's called a few times about the grass and since it's really hard to see the garage from anywhere but upstairs at her house, I'm sure she called and said it'd been sitting there for a while.
-
That's why I throw all my junk and old appliances in the BACK yard. That is really crazy, since you just bought I am guessing you are getting spillover from poor maintenance from the previous owner. I don't know how they can take your stuff without notice but if they gave notice to the previous owner maybe your stuff just got thrown in with it. It can be tough to deal with big cities with that sort of stuff as it varies, Miami is a free for all where nothing is enforced, Minneapolis will tow your car if you leave it 5 seconds over the limit. The people you deal with are used to people trying to get out of stuff when they are guilty so people like you who got legitimately screwed get no hearing. No, the thing is I didn't just buy it. I bought it...I think 6 years ago. The only issue with maintenance has been my sister cutting the grass. Basically, if she doesn't have a boyfriend, it can get too long. She's a whole other headache. But I've gotten a few notices about that. The first time I paid a 50 dollar fine. But I've never gotten a notice about having stuff in the yard and this was not in any way garbage, and it'd been there for just a couple days. Speaking of the tickets, I've also had to pay a ton in parking tickets for my sister because she just can't be bothered to move the car(even though she has a garage and a driveway).

Horst has apparently said he's focused on passing ability, shooting, and defense. That all sounds pretty obvious, but those are skills, not just pure ability as much. I read it as he's looking for an established player, not another long shot like Thon. That may rule out my suggestion of Porter. He's very talented, very high ceiling, but coming off a torn ACL and sitting for a whole year could very well hurt his chances to end up in Milwaukee.

Teams may have caught up to Bo's ideas, but I don't see many catching up to just how disciplined he got his players to play. Again, I'll readily admit I'm not an expert on CBB. I only watch a few regular season games a year and then like everyone the Tourney. But UW played so crisp with Bo. Turnover, no matter who it was, they were out of the game. And on the rare occasion he had a team with a little more ability, he'd let them play a little more up tempo BB like Decker/Kaminski team. I also seem to remember Bo getting a lot of guys out of the state of Minnesota that the Gophers wanted. Not top 50 guys or anything like that, but good, talented players. So if they're not keeping their own(never that rare if we had elite players) and they're no longer getting "their type" of players from Minnesota, Illinois, Iowa, guys who have a few scholarship offers, but aren't elite, the type of players that would contribute on a top 15 team...well, that kinda sums up the amount of trouble we're in. -
Same here. I hate how Bogut's time here was. My most vivid memory, sans the fall that basically ended his career in Milwaukee, was when he was at the FT line and he was pretty much the only guy playing hard. Nobody went to do that stupid obligatory hand slap(though I think it's stupid, it's still done by every team with every player when a team actually cares). And Bogut just kinda mock slapped everyone and shook his head. He played hard, he was a good dude IMO and I like that he's had success elsewhere. I like them a little more now that you pointed out McKinnie was a UWGB guy. I did not know that...but it's pretty cool.

I'm not saying it about every guy who doesn't look like Corey Maggette. Not even close. I am saying it about Khris and Malcolm, and I said I was worried about how it would affect Malcolm before he had a pretty serious 2 month lower body injury yet again this year. Does the fact that he got hurt again and then said himself he is gonna try to lose some weight this offseason not support my hypothesis at all? Really?? It would if you were honestly representing what he actually said. But you're not. He said he was going to "get in the gym." When asked what he was going to work on specifically, he said literally everything at one point. Get in great shape, I MIGHT try to shed a little weight. And to the other point, that he suffered a lower-body injury, no, that doesn't mean anything with regard to his weight. I could come up with a list about a mile long of rail-thin players like KD who suffered lower body injuries. If you were talking about Embid, I'd agree with you. But you're two MAIN examples are an injury from his Freshmen year at Virgina to one foot, a broken bone, and then a TOTALLY different injury to his other foot, a soft muscleinjury. But then, to make this discussion even more bizarre, you're talking about how Khris Middleton has to lose? I don't know if you've actually gone to the games and looked at these guys up close, but I'm sorry, the idea that Middleton "needs" to lose weight is just not accurate in my opinion and that's the most respectful way I can put that. It's almost like you think basketball players are built ONE way and when you have a guy like Brogdon who has more broad shoulders and is thicker(one of the main reasons he's capable of defending a guy like Kawhi) you just label him fat. Also, 12 pct body fat, a TRUE 12 pct body fat(not like how they claim someone like Driver is 1.5 pct Body fat as that's just ridiculous) is an almost ideal pct for an athlete. -

LOL. I remember someone showing me this picture of Michael Redd, as proof of the error of my ways, when I said he had bulked up too much: http://www3.pictures.gi.zimbio.com/Michael+Redd+USA+Basketball+Challenge+_N1aLrDCzy0l.jpg Then a year later, after his first ACL tear and rehab, he finally admitted that he had often played at over 20% body fat for a few seasons. So yeah, there is about 20 pounds of extra flab there, and yeah, it is really hard for some people to see it. It's going to appear as a very thin layer of fat on any part of a basketball player that is exposed, but one good place to look is where the shoulder muscles end and the biceps begin. That gap will be noticeably less pronounced in a basketball player with 12-15% body fat or more when compared to the most fit players because of a thin layer of fat under the skin - even if the player otherwise looks like a phenomenally fit individual by normal standards. Are you honestly trying to argue that because you said something about Michael Redd...what,10 or 15 years ago before he tore his acl somehow makes you right about this? There just isn't a way to seriously respond to that. I also don't know who you're saying there's 20 pounds of "flab" in? There sure isn't 20 pounds in Middleton or Brogdon. Nor was there in Redd for that matter, but I'm not going back to argue about a picture of Michael Redd. I mean...seriously, we're talking about Michael Redd here? -
I think if this team didn't have a superstar the caliber of Giannis, I would agree with you much more that Middleton isn't worth a max deal. However, our decisions this offseason are going to play a huge role in Giannis' decision to sign or to leave. If you take away the only other all-star on this roster, that's certainly not going to help. So I think Middleton's worth the Max. The only upside is there are obviously better players out there, so the teams rumored to be interested in Middleton, Brooklyn, LAL and Indy will probably wait and see what happens with them. The exception being the Pacers who may be resigned to the fact that they're not getting a true superstar and Middleton may be their best option. I do think there is probably about a 75 pct chance Middleton gets offered a Max deal. One guy who's getting overlooked is Mirotic. Sure, he was bad in the playoffs, but lets not recency bias impact this too much. Go back a year and he was outstanding in the post-season. Mirotic is 28 years old, he's not quite Lopez in terms of being a rim protector, but he's a good rebounder and a very good shooter. I'd like to see him back, particularly if we aren't able to retain Lopez. No clue what the number is. 13/14 was being thrown out by some writers toward the end of the regular season. I'd imagine he cost himself quite a bit when he was injured down the stretch and then performed poorly in the playoffs. This would be a very obvious example of what Homer was talking about. How confident are the Bucks that Wilson can take another step, improve his 3 point shooting as well as be that glue type player that he looked like he could be at times this year? I like Wilson....his shot isn't the prettiest, but if they are high on him, that could make it an easier decision. As for my ranking, I'm just going with Middleton/Brogdon 1 and 1A right now. The others could be replaced on an individual basis, but we can't replace them all with just one pick and the depth we have. I don't think the two I named could be adequately replaced.

Wasn't he also against the hiring of Horst? I thought there was some type of consensus among the owners and then Edens, having control at the time decided to hire Horst to the ire of Edens.

I was told by one of the associate athletic directors that UW has the 2nd most difficult admission standards of all power 5 schools. I believe Stanford was #1. This wasn't said in a bragging manner, rather a frustrated one. So take that for what it's worth. It's just an anecdote that I heard from someone who works in the Athletic Department. -

Well, again, despite the fact that Michigan is a GREAT school, they will take kids that UW won't even look at. But beyond that, the two schools you mention simply have more clout, more name recognition and have deeper pools of talent to draw from. They may not be "blue blood" programs, but they're a step below that and a few steps above UW. Marquette can also let a lot more guys into school than UW can. Dwayne Wade, for example, would never have been admitted into UW. I really don't know what the answer is, but I hope someone in Madison figures it out quickly. -

HiAndTight replied to homer's topic in Other Sports
It's an incredibly stupid requirement. I spent a long time after school working and coaching at a school in Milwaukee. The way the school is run, these kids just don't have a chance. Many of them end up struggling with the very basics, now you're asking them to take a foreign language? Though to be honest, I did not know that was a requirement for admission to UW. But just to give a general outlook, I'd walk into a classroom and this is how it was set up. The kids were just packed into the classes. At least compared to where I was lucky enough to go to a school where we had ~22 kids per teacher in a school with about 1800 kids. But you'd have maybe 6-7 kids up by the teacher. You'd have that many kids with their heads down, just showing up so they don't get in trouble for not going to school. You'd have another 7 or 8 kids in the back of the glass talking and screwing around, usually over the teachers. There are a lot of kids who aren't lucky enough to grow up in a good school district that has the means to properly educate them, and when that chasm starts to open up, it grows and grows quickly in HS. It ends up being a race issue because it impacts black kids far more than it does other kids, but there were so many kids I worked with who would have excelled if they'd been born 20 minutes outside of Milwaukee. Didn't mean to take this too far off topic, but I feel it's relevant to the issue of UW's admissions requirements and how many athlets are at a disadvantage right out of the gate. -

HiAndTight replied to homer's topic in Other Sports
Trimming down definitely helps quickness. And just as importantly, you don't get tired as quickly if you're carrying less weight. Being able to be quick in short bursts is no more important than being able to maintain top speed for long periods of time chasing a guy like Norman Powell or Fred Van Vleet through screens. And even if he is just doing for his feet, that just proves my point about how his previous injuries are a concern moving forward, another point that got me some excessively incredulous replies despite being supported by known facts and, now, by Brogdon's own words. Now you're just completely putting words into Brogdon's mouth. HE didn't say it was to prevent injuries, someone else speculated that MIGHT be a reason why. And you cited a foot injury from 2012 years when you brought this up. He happened to suffer another totally, completely different and unrelated injury after you said that. That doesn't make you saying that the foot injury he suffered while at UVA was a reason why it was becoming so urgent that we trade him any more valid. Here are the facts. He broke a bone in 2012 in his left foot. He suffered a soft muscle injury in 2019 to his right foot. Then when pushed by reporters to ask what he wanted to accomplish in the off-season, he said, "get better at everything, come back in great shape, I MIGHT shed a few pounds." You've now taken that little statement and you're saying that HE has somehow agreed with what you've said. And losing weight does not automatically make you quicker. If you're a fat guy it will. He is not anywhere near fat. He's not even overweight. I never thought I'd have to say this, but he's got muscle definition on his stomach. If there was ANY question about his endurance, it should have been answered when he missed roughly 2 months of game time and came back and defended Kawhi and showed no rust and no signs of fatigue. You talked about Hill(A LOT). He played fewer minutes per game than Brogdon and had a much-much easier defensive assignment. So I'm just failing to see any substance behind this argument that Brogdon was out of shape other than him saying among many other things he "might" shed a "little" weight this off-season. -

Well I think it's weird that people can't see it, and that they argue about it and take exception to my observations. Brogdon and especially Khris both need to trim down a little. Toronto's small ball lineups ran circles around the Bucks, and nobody will ever convince me that's not part of the reason why. Given Brogdon the starting SF job if Khris walks and he's fine, but losing 10 pounds will make a big difference in his defense as a guard. Wait a second, now Khris Middleton is overweight? https://cdn-s3.si.com/s3fs-public/2018/09/09/malcolm_brogdon_bucks_embed_.jpg That's Brogdon during the season. This is Khris Middleton; https://sixerswire.files.wordpress.com/2018/07/khrismiddleton.jpg?w=1000&h=583 I'm not sure what you're looking at if you think Middleton "especially" has to trim down. Brogdon could try to get leaner. As I said, he's pretty thick. Not fat at all, but he's thick. He could try lifting less just try dropping a few pounds. But Middleton is skinny. That one is just strange to me. -

HiAndTight replied to homer's topic in Other Sports
Well, you went way further than saying he needed to shed a little weight. You said that it was becoming an "emergency" to trade him now. I also think you're WAY overplaying what he said. He was asked what he wanted to accomplish this off-season and he said he wanted to "come back in great shape, keep getting better, keep improving...I MIGHT shed a little weight." You portrayed him as though he was Glenn Davis(not literally). He's a thicker guy. He's got broad shoulders. I would definitely still disagree with anyone who thought he was overweight. Especially when they showed him working out without his shirt during the end of the Pistons series. Saying you want to come back in "great shape," and "might shed a little weight," is different than you're portraying it here in MY opinion. LeBron has said and done the same thing. I'll let others watch the video and judge for themselves, but think you're taking a pretty benign statement about him wanting to come back in great shape and running with it. As for Middleton, you may be right, maybe he's the type of guy who puts it in cruise control when he gets paid. Though he did sign a 70 million dollar deal and he was fine after that, so I don't really share your concern. The NBA season is long, these guys get beat up. If he takes a month off every off-season before he starts going at it, it's worked so far, why change things up. I'm just curious to see how much the Bucks owners step up this off-season. They have to know that they're on the clock right now. -
Agreed. Bostic made a selfish play, Buckner just made a physical error. That's going to happen in sports. I thought it was Mookie Wilson who was hitting, but perhaps he was the one who scored, but I was under the impression that Buckner was unlikely to get the out even if he fielded the ball cleanly. He was too deep and the Pitcher was late in covering.

Oh man, this would be perfect. This has to be used in other parks, right? It just seems too obvious now that someone mentioned it. Guessing his May 4th name is Darth Hader, right? I like the Star Wars themes and all that, the only thing is May 4th is my birthday, so I get inundated with bad Star Wars puns and jokes on facebook. But the imperial march...man, that's just awesome.

HiAndTight replied to homer's topic in Other Sports
I don't believe that was at all meant to be exclusive to UW. In fact I'd say it's extremely mild in Wisconsin as compared to places like the SEC where they go after a guy and his family if he turns their school down. The point as I took it rather was that it DOES still happen in Wisconsin and while it's not as bad as other places, it shouldn't happen at all. It's just extremely classless. I agree with the rest of your post. The challenges are different in the two sports. About the pace of play though, I think that's a chicken and egg thing. Does Wisconsin play slower because they WANT to play slow? I don't think so. They've placed an enormous emphasis on not turning the ball over(so much so that Bo would pull you if you did it, regardless who accomplished you may have been) and making good, smart passes. But I believe if you have the elite athletes coming, they'd play more up and down. They did the year they lost to Duke in the Championship and even that team wasn't exactly loaded with athleticism. But we agree, they're not going to get those top 4-5 recruits. But they need to keep being able to identify the kids from Minnesota, Illinois and Wisconsin in particular and find the right guys that fit what they want to do, develop them and then keep them all from leaving. That's as big of an issue as anything. How many players have gone to UW, played for a year and decided to transfer since Gard has taken over? -

I'd argue it might hurt their 3rd and 4th stringers who get very little playing time, but who would start on 90 pct of the teams in the country. Obviously a bit of hyperbole, but it's amazing how many guys they just shuffle through their. They had Williams, a guy many considered to be the best player in this draft class and the guy who jumps off the screen from that 'Bama front is that Raekwon Davis. That big 6'7 kid who I believe is a true Jr. this year. That's a guy that reminds me a BIT of Albert Haynesworth talent wise. I don't know why he doesn't put up bigger numbers during the season, but in the playoffs the last two years, he's been their best player statistically and using the eye test(of course Williams was likely getting far more attention). Anyway, not a CFB thread. As for the top kids going elsewhere, a lot of this IS related to academics. I know you don't believe that it plays as big of a role as others do, but I know there have been elite recruits that they have not admitted. Barry's fought to get more special exemptions like other programs have, but as recently as 2017 they only got 8 appeals I believe. I know the one of the associate athletic directors through a friend and have picked his brain on occasion. This was an issue that both Bielema and Andersen had. Guys who qualified with the NCAA Clearinghouse, but had GPS of 2.2 or whatever the case may be. Look at Craig Evans. I only mention him because it was made public with him, but if you're recruiting a kid who doesn't KNOW definitively if he will even get in, that's got to hurt you. Evans only switched from UW to Mich. State after he was denied admissions, and that's a kid who grew up 20 minutes away and IIRC was a 4 star recruit. In any event, Gard needs to do a better job recruiting and finishing the deal. Chryst is putting together VERY good recruiting classes by Wisconsin's standards. In fact, we could see a freshmen starting at QB this year...one who was ranked as the top pocket passing QB in the country by many...and one who had the opportunity to go to OSU or some of those more glamorous places you're talking about. Though I might be biased as I'd take a brisk fall Day on a UW campus over any other in the country! -
Packers roster analysis, post draft moves/needs?
HiAndTight replied to OnTheBlack's topic in Other Sports
You're absolutely right. I'll also say this. Even if you have experience...and I do have some, though very little(I was a graduate assistant when my eligibility was up, though not in the same sport) you're still liable to get it wrong. Otherwise Ray Lewis isn't the...what, 6th or 7th guy picked. People can be knowledgeable and wrong...and perhaps I am. Perhaps Martinez is a very bad LB'er and we'd be significantly better off with Daron Lee(who I believe I advocated trading for after the Jets way overpaid and replaced him). Either way, it throws the entire thread off and becomes pointless. Sometimes it's just better if two people simply don't interact. The "Foe" icon is in your profile for a reason. Lets move on now. The Packers have a lot of new pieces and it should be a fun year. Particularly with a GM who's willing to go out and add guys to improve his team when needed. In fact, let me extend my apologies to the board. I should have handled it like Peavy did and simply say I disagree. I guess I'm more inclined to bow my back a bit and get into a petty argument with certain individuals/arguments. That's on me. -
FVV, Hart...but are there any out there this year? There's the PG from Purdue, Carsen Edwards. Didn't stand out in the couple games I saw parts of Purdue play. He can shoot the 3, but he looks like primarily a scorer.
-
i HATE this about the NBA draft. Brodgon fell in the draft, because he actually stayed in school 4 years. If a player can play, he can play. In fact, players like Dawkins are actually ready to contribute on the NBA level rather than these projects that need 2-3 seasons before they do anything. In my initial post, I suggested Cam Johnson and Ty Jerome, who are older players and will fall simply because they have less upside than other players who haven't done nearly as much in college. The bucks are in WIN NOW mode, not in build for the future. I would hate a draft and stash player at 30. I want someone who can help now. I'm not particularly enthralled with Dawkins based on the scouting report I read on him, but this is ridiculous. He's 24. That's old for the draft, but it still gives him 10 years of his athletic prime to play the game. That's plenty. I completely agree with you. It's certainly fun to see the young guy who is raw get picked, but they never turn into Giannis. The value is often with the guys who stay in school on a winning team, play smart BB and excel at a couple of things. Dawkins does sound like a good 3 and D guy. Not much more to his game...but if you already have a big time playmaker, what more do you need?
-
I’ve softened my stance, and believe he’ll use this as motivation to pitch better in AAA and be up with the big club before the middle of June. We’ll know by then who needs to go to the pen. I don't see Nelson as being the type of guy who needs any added motivation. I just hope he uses this to keep strengthening his arm so we can get him back healthy and strong. If those two things are in line, he'll only strengthen this rotation.
-
So...just gotta assume that nobody on here knows what's going on with Kirby? That's a shame. Gotta feel bad for that kid. He keeps fighting to get back and keeps getting knocked down by one issue or another. Hopefully, he is able to make it back this year and at least get into some games and put himself in position next year to fly through the system as Rasmussen has. I doubt many people thought Rasmussen would be primed to make an impact on the Brewers BP at the start of Spring Training this year, but here he is, dominating at AA.
