  1. Wow...alright, Kelly has been getting hit, but still...I'd rather face Lackey right NOW than him. He's got a great arm. And they're dumping Craig? Not the moves I expected the Cards to make.
  2. I don't know a single knowledge fan who DOESN'T use BA as a useful statistic. It's never lost it's value. Never once found a bad offensive player who hits .330. Now your mistake in your[sarcasm]obviously sincere attempt to not be snide[/sarcasm]was making the argument that batting average is a useless statistic as opposed to OBP is a more valuable statistic.
  3. I've been on the trade Gallardo bandwagon for a while now, but if you watch how he's throwing the ball, he looks like he's made some major adjustments. His fastball is moving more than I ever remember it moving. He's mixing in his change and then there is the key, his curve. When that's on, he's a legit #2. Again, this is a 180 for me, but I've watched him hit the outside corner with a 93 MPH fastball that moves in on the hands of a righty like a cutter and away from a lefty seemingly leading to more GB's or weakly hit balls. Gallardo looks like he's genuinely adjusted and really looks good. Not just because of the box scores, but the movement on his 2 seamer has looked really good. At this point, I'd ride it out with Yo, pick up the option, and if he continues to pitch well, take the 1st round pick for him and walk away. I've always liked Yo, I just didn't think he'd be able to adjust from a guy who struck out a batter per inning to one who used more movement to be more efficient. As far as him being behind Lohse or Garza, it really depends on what day you're talking about. You could make a legitimate argument for 4 different guys being your ace and filling out your rotation in any order.
  4. No, but he's also not as bad as some are suggesting. I wouldn't want him, but wouldn't be surprised to see him throw well in the NL West the rest of the year. Could help the Giants through injuries and get into the playoffs. He's still got pretty good stuff.
  5. Palmeiro went before congress. Not the same a denying it in a press conference. Palmeiro did it at the end of his career, not at age 28 with time to try and atone for his mistakes. And I don't know many players who are likely HOF'ers at age 30, but it's anything but a moot point. At some point players who tested positive are most likely going to get in.
  6. At this point as in what he's done thus far, or ever? If it's the later, I think that's ridiculous. If Braun goes on to hit .305, ends up with 2600 hits, gets another 250+ HR's and has a few more big years, then I think it'll be far enough removed from his positive test and his performance after the fact may well be enough to merit consideration. And Braun is the type of hitter who may lose power, but I think if his health cooperates, he can continue to be a very good hitter. Palmeiro is over 3000 hits and 500 homeruns (both 'automatic' benchmarks in the past) and hasn't even SNIFFED election. Braun isn't getting in. [sarcasm]Right, there is no difference between the two, and no way that the outlook on Braun could be just a tad different 20 years from now.[/sarcasm] And it's not just probably, it's definitive. He is NOT getting in. Even if he plays until 45 and gets another 2500 hits, he's not getting in. The minds of writers in college right now have already been made up and cannot be changed under any circumstance.
  7. Wow....gotta feel lucky to still be a couple games up in the division. Gotta take 2 of 3 vs Tampa. Normally I'd count the Price game a loss, but we seem to do well vs established elite pitchers....at least comparatively speaking.

  9. I'd been hoping it'd happen a lot sooner. With the lefties we have, bringing in another RH'ed reliever in the 7th or 8th who can throw in the upper 90's is huge for the Brewers. Now I know you're his agent, so you have a bias, but what do you think about his secondary pitches? How's the curve/change coming along? That's what'll make him a closer IMO. If he can throw that curve consistently and mix in a change every now and then(or the other way around.
  10. Nice. I've thought Kintlzer was on the right track a few times before, so I'll hold off on getting too excited, but that was the guy we saw last year. Getting in on the hands of good hitters and spotting that 94 MPH sinker down and in to get ground balls.
  11. Kintzler is someone they need to get going. And why would they go with the lefties with the right handers coming up? Do people remember what Kintlzer did last year? He was a very good right handed reliever. If he keeps the ball down, he can be a huge part of our pen again. We need a strong finish from Kintzler.
  12. I don't know how his ceiling could be lower than what he showed us last year. Maybe you're right and he won't be a closer again, but he was a closer last year and a very good one. So it's been proven that his ceiling is that of a top very good closer. 75 K in 60 IP, 28 of 32 saves, 2.70 ERA and he can throw in the mid to upper 90's. That's closer type stuff. And given the Brewers current situation, unless he suffers a serious injury, I would be shocked if he isn't our closer going into next year or at some point in the future. Though....I would prefer Papelbon closing for us.
  13. It's a blind guess. I would place him around 5-6 just based on the fact he was a high profile signing. As for Wang, I haven't got the first idea where to place him. I do think it's going to be really interesting to follow his progress in...what, BC next year? Doubt he'd go all the way down to Appleton. I'm really hoping he can add a tick or two to his fastball and shore up his off-speed stuff.
  14. Uehara has to be a target. Counting on Henderson and or Thornburg is a huge risk, and he's been just awesome almost his entire career over here.
  15. Absolutely, and I would be fine with that because chances are that things won't go perfectly for us next year and we won't be in the same position we're in right now. He needs to get his curve ball down, but between him and Henderson we have two good options. The thing is, THIS YEAR, I don't really trust K-Rod, I don't want to put Jeffress in there in a ALDS game 5. So if we could make one move, Papelbon would be it. Or Uehara. People talk about the closer being overrated, but there is something to be said to having an experienced winner in the post-season with the game on the line. But beyond that, you take Smith, Duke and Gorz and pair them with four right handers like Henderson, Jeffress, K-Rod, and Papelbon. You could carve up lineup's with R/L matchup's and close the game with whoever is throwing the best. The problem is K-Rod is still pitching too good for us to trade for a pitcher the caliber of Papelbon IMO. Both have been among the best in the game, so it'd be tough to have either SU.
  16. I doubt we get Napoli for less than one of our top 5 prospects after he's consistently been a guy with a mid 800 OPS. .885 the previous 4 years.
  17. So I have heard three reasons not to take Napoli from Briggs. He's a cloggler, he has the same RBI's as Reynolds and he costs 16 million next year(same as Ramirez). Well....and he's not a difference maker, but that argument was supported by his RBI numbers. So his salary is the concern then, right? That's the only viable reason. Would it really be that hard to trade him in the off-season? IF you can get that type of offensive impact, and that type of post-season experience, his RBI numbers relative to a guy who should be a part time player, and lack of speed are very small deterrents IMO.
  18. I don't see anything that suggests the Brewers think Thornburg is their closer of the future. I think Papelbon would be a great addition. He's still pitching great and could give us a great backend of the pen just like in 2011 when we traded for a top closer. Papelbon's contract is expensive, but I would think if we gave up a couple of good prospects they'd be willing to take some money back. And I am not among those who is still confident that K-Rod is going to be a good closer next year or especially the next couple. If fact I worry about him struggling down the stretch this year. Papelbon for Taylor+Jungman and the Phillies send 6-8 million back and I'd be thrilled with that deal.
  19. I'd be fine with it. I think the Tigers got a pretty good deal for Soria, but they got two pretty solid pitchers who are both close to being big league contributors. Not sure what the Red Sox would want for a Uehara. Papelbon would be one guy I'd be interested in. Depending on how much the Phillies would kick back in salary and how much we'd have to give up to get him.
  20. Exactly. We don't need just another guy, we need a guy that is actually a big enough improvement to risk the chemistry change, that also can play decent defense who can cover 3B capably or Herrera will be playing big games for any ARam hiccups. I don't really think you have to worry too much about Corey Hart causing chemistry issues. And if you added Hart, why wouldn't Reynolds be playing 3rd base instead of Herrera IF there was an injury? I'm not saying I'd pick him up, but I think it deserves some consideration. Missing a year, playing in Seattle, these things could have led to a bad first half. Or he could just simply be done. I guess this is where you rely on your scouting to evaluate him and decide if he's worth it or not. Assuming of course you don't have to give up anything and you have to pay close to the minimum for him.
  21. Right because everyone in the NL would be looking forward to Price, Wainwright, and Wacha in the post season... I know I'd feel great about those match-ups from a Brewer perspective... Right, because you completely responded to the point that SRB made, which was how Price DOESN'T DRAMATICALLY IMPROVE THE TEAM THEY WERE IN THE FIRST HALF. Do you know that Wacha is going to be coming back? Because according to the latest MRI and St Louis beat writers, Wacha is out until at least September. So they get David Price. They are also without Molina likely the rest of the way. So his point was that adding Price doesn't dramatically improve the team they had in the first half. A team that may very well not have Wacha and if it does he may not be the same pitcher he was last year. It's incredible how far less snide and condescending posts are scrutinized, yet Crew's never seem to be. A team that won't have it's more valuable player during the second half.
  22. It's entirely possible that he wouldn't have agreed to sign for 2.5 had he been taken by the Brewers at 12. The Brewers obviously do a very thorough job of ensuring their guys are going to sign. We seldom lose out on signing a pick. AS for Medeiros, isn't his arm slot compared favorably to Sale's?
  23. I agree it's not our staff fault for not diagnosing the illness. I do think the jokes are frankly kinda stupid, but that's just me. I think they're HIGHlarious! Well...some appreciate lowbrow comedy a bit more than others I suppose. But even if one or two did make me chuckle, just using the word "high," is the equivalent of a 5th grader making a fat noise.
  24. I'm sure the Cardinals are offended by Lucroy's audacity. He showed absolutely ZERO respect there. He not only has the nerve to hit one HR, but he thinks it's alright to hit TWO HR's, the second a game winner while they're not only losing, but while they're without the games all time best catcher, MR. Molina.
  25. Arguably the biggest win of the season. We close the gap in the season series vs the Reds who have been beating us. We look like we're going to gain a game on everyone in the division again. And we fight back after Nelson struggled and gave up the lead.
