I don't mind the name either. It's what many people have been calling them in protest anyway. Don't get me wrong, it's not the most clever nickname I've ever heard, but it serves it's purpose for now.

Well that's the floor, what's the actual cap going to be? They'll need to do better on this. At the very least freeze the cap for a year and ensure that next years cap isn't lower than this years cap. I'd expect a whole lot of teams to be re-working a whole lot of contracts and few teams are better equipped to do so than the Packers. One of the wealthier teams in the league and they don't have owners taking the money. So that giant rainy day fund...you can mitigate Clark and Bahkt's cap hit. Both of whom I would expect would get 15+ a year. They COULD save a ton on Rodgers cap hit....if they viewed him as their long term QB and were willing to add say 10 million in guaranteed money and an extra year or two to the total deal like the Cowboys did with Romo or the Pats did with Brady on a number of occasions. Obviously that's not a very likely option though given the whole Jordan Love situation.

I'm there with ya. I have direct TV, and then I somehow became "the guy" who pays for Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime, Apple TV, HBO Go..ALL that crap and people hit me up for the passwords. I absolutely have to figure this out but I haven't had the guts to actually cut the cord. Hell, I haven't even changed from my Sprint plan that costs 240 bucks a month for 4 phones. Spending up to 550 for TV, Streaming and Cell phone services is absolutely killing me and I know how stupid it is. I know I could probably cut 300 bucks a month off that pretty easily and throw that much more a month into my 401K or my Mortgages. Pretty much anything but just hanging a bunch of 20's on a clothesline and starting them on fire.

I'll preface my comment by saying I know that there are things going on that are way more important than baseball, and I understand that, and I agree that what they're doing is the right thing. That being said, the baseball fan in me can still take the time to feel like..... man, it really sucks that we're losing a half a year (or more) of Yelich in his prime. Think about the Angels. They have Mike Trout, easily the best player of this generation, and maybe one of the top 5 players ever when it's all said and done (if he stays on the track he's on) and they're losing a huge chunk of a full season of a prime aged season from him. Like I said, I know it's just baseball, and it doesn't matter much in the great scheme of things, but it's still there. Eh, I think everyone knows you're not saying it's more important than people who are suffering in other ways. We talk about how Ted Williams numbers were impacted by a MUCH bigger world wide issue with regard to WW2. No reason to not speculate how missing most of a season can impact a HOF caliber player in his prime years.

So he'll be getting 2 million or more per year until he's 50. That's pretty awesome for him. Even if he goes all Terrell Owens, he won't go broke until at least 50 I didn’t realize TO was on the list, but it’s not surprising since most NFL and NBA players are broke within a couple years of their careers ending. I'd almost have been surprised if TO WASN'T on this list. That said, I think you can start receiving a could pretty healthy pension at ~55 or so that should pay him over 100K a year. So I doubt he's actually "broke" right now as that's a term that's thrown around pretty loosely with athletes and he's going to be getting about 10K a month tax free or mostly tax free. If I was an agent though...I'd BEG my players to meet with a good financial advisor and at the very least put 10 pct of their earnings into some type of safe annuity that starts paying out at age 45 or something like that. You put your body through everything he did, make ~70 million and you go broke... There used to be a picture of a meme that went around. It had Jay-Z when he was starting to get rich with tons of Jewelry and other depreciating assets and then when he become a mogul and he had just a plain black shirt on. Maybe he'll try to impart his wisdom on some of these young guys. I believe Bernie Kosar is another guy who went broke who tried to talk to young players about investing their money and who to trust and not to trust.
-
You're surprised the union wouldn't pull the plug on a deal that pays him 27 million per? I'd have been stunned if anyone would have even tried. And given that they let the Braves absolutely rob two young superstars last year...this seems like the least of their worries. With a DH in the NL now(I'm assuming it's gonna stick moving forward) I think this deal ends up playing out just fine.

Yes, it's the gold package. My Grandma had season tickets since it was Municipal Stadium and she had the whole 8 games...and then for whatever reason, when they stopped playing at Lambeau, she only got the Milwaukee package or the Gold package. Which is fine for me. I'd have dropped it if I had to pay more up front each year than I already do. It's 6 seats and I get paid back for whoever else comes, but you know how that goes. Anyway, never heard there was any difference between the two. I've been to quite a few games where I bought tickets myself and I guess I don't remember anyone telling me to sit down. It's only in my normal seats. So I guess that makes enough sense. I like that the stadium is louder now with the acoustics...but I've always thought our HFA could be better/stronger if we had a louder stadium like Seattle or KC.
-
I love going to Lambeau...but I hate the drive up, the traffic and all the rest, so in that sense, I usually sell most of my tickets and only go to one game a year. I don't really find the Timeouts and all that to be the problem...it's the fans at Lambeau. You get up and stand during a 3rd down on D and you have people tapping you on the shoulder. It gets so annoying. It's an older fan base, so...I get it and maybe it's just the section I have, but it feels like you're supposed to act like you're at the Master, not an NFL game. Baseball games I love going to on like Wednesday afternoons when you had 18K people there and I can kick back.
-
I'm not. That's the top school in one of the most talent laden states and a historical powerhouse. They spend money, attract talent and they get guys to the NFL. If you're an 18 year old kid, you don't care enough about Jerry Sandusky to eliminate PSU from your list.
-
Yeah, I remember a discussion on here last year where people were arguing that the talent gap wasn't that wide. Take a look at the QB's/WR'ers and CB's drafted from Ohio State in just the past few years compared to the Badgers? But the Badgers have Mertz..they're loading up on the secondary. I don't know that they need elite WR'er recruits as long as they can keep playing their style, but if they can keep recruiting at this level, maybe it won't take a perfect game from the Badgers and a terrible game from the Buckeyes in order for us to hope to have a prayer. Just keep that wall around Wisconsin for the next couple years and try and steal a couple ESPN 300 recruits and we should have a real chance to compete in the near future.
-
Agreed. That's what it sounds like after the actual report came out.
-
you would think if that was true they wouldn't be consistently one of the worst teams in the league They eventually asked someone about that rumor. The anon source laughed it off and said they need a refund if they did. I can’t imagine they were paying refs millions when they were that average. Not to mention refs aren’t some random scrubs off the streets. Most are like lawyers and probably pretty wealthy as is. Can’t imagine they would even think about ruining their image over their part time reffing job. I would agree, but people can find themselves in money trouble in most tax brackets. You live above your means.... Not saying I believe it, I don't know enough to have an opinion and I would tend to agree with you for the most part, but after that clown from the NBA, it wouldn't shock me. It WOULD shock me to know that there are multiple refs doing this.

Josh Bell for the next 3 seasons? Do the Brewers actually have the prospects to pull that off? The Pirates one would assume would want a huge haul from the division rival Brewers. But yeah, if they could swing that, Yelich, Hiura, Bell in the middle of the order...that'd be deadly. L/R/S. Balanced lineup...you'd have to assume the DH is here to stay. That could be as good of a trio as we've had...ever.

Warriors is not in and of itself offensive to my mind...but people I've heard that suggested and I've heard pushback against it. I guess because it's generally been accompanied by other Native American logo's [sic] that have been. "warriors" glorifies war and killing. Yeah, I disagree.
-
I think you are giving Snyder too much credit. He seems like that Type A, cocky CEO that believes he can win any battle. It was also kinda a tricky subject. It SEEMS like it's so blatantly racist, but the Post did do some polls and most Native American's at the time not only didn't think it was offensive, it was the team the largest pct of them rooted for. I believe that was from a 2016 poll in the WaPo. So that gave him the validation he needed to stick to his guns. I honestly wasn't sure if it was something that Native people cared about deeply or if it was just something that I assumed people would find offensive. I don't think he's going to come out of this any worse for the wear. People didn't like him before...but not to anyone who is upset they're changing it, he can just pretty much say, "hey, I had no choice given the current climate." Really though...kinda blows my mind you can have a Nickname like that in 2020...but when things are around for a long time, you tend to get a bit numb to them.

It was like four guys. If this turns you off my guess is you weren't all that interested in the first place. There were just as many guys saying they had it much worse growing up. It was more than four guys and given that they'd been there for one day, and one of them is one of the biggest stars in the league, I'd say that's significant. I also didn't say that it "turned me off," I said it wasn't endearing and that it was a bad look for the league and amazingly tone deaf. I didn't call for a boycott of the league. What's odd, though, is that JR Smith is one of those guys who had it a lot worse. I've only seen Smith, McLemore, and Rondo complain... I've seen a lot more about "the players" complaining than what other players actually complained. Which superstar complained about the accommodations?

Giannis just seems like a really good down to earth dude that hasn't forgotten where he came from. I hope he's here for his entire career. Losing Giannis would be just heartbreaking. I can't even think of another way to word it. There's no player in Milwaukee history since I've been a fan that would even come close. I'm too young for Kareem, but he won a title here and just doesn't have(or seem to have) the same type of easy going personality off the court and that Jordan-esque attitude on the court that makes him such a tough competitor. I remember what a gut punch it was losing Molitor...but he was later in his career. I would imagine losing Giannis would be like the Cavs losing LeBron....but very likely without winning them a title. Sports isn't the end of the world no matter what happens, but I can't think of anything that could happen to Wisconsin sports that'd be worse than losing Giannis.

Dodgers sign Jimmy Nelson
HiAndTight replied to A Swing and A Drive's topic in Milwaukee Brewers Talk
I was at that game. (Braun hit a 2 run homer in the first inning and that was it for the score 2-0). In his 2nd AB, Nelson hit the ball past the LFer onto the warning track and made a turn at first, the ball got back in quickly and he had to run full speed back to first and dove in. For what seems like a career ending/derailing injury, it didn't seem like a big deal at the time because he stayed in the game and was thereafter eliminated on a double play. He then went out and pitched the full bottom half of the inning. That's what it was....similar to how Gallardo stayed in and pitched the bottom half of the inning after injuring his knee. Such a shame for Nelson. He was well on his way to establishing himself as an elite pitcher...a top 20-25 pitcher in the game at that point and seemed to do all the things to keep himself healthy that Sheets didn't do. We could have been looking at a 1-2 punch with Nelson and Woody and then hoping that Burnes and Peralta could give us two more young guns. He could have made the difference in a WS showing when we lost in 7 in the NLCS. And he lost out on tens of millions potentially. And the narrative immediately after the injury and in the early stages of his recovery was how it was to the back of the shoulder and it shouldn't have as big of an impact as an injury sustained when pitching and he'd be back the following year. Just a total disaster...for the team, the fans and worst of all, for Jimmy. -
Yeah, I wonder what they'll do about next years Cap. Early projections with no fans had the Cap dropping to about 120 million next year. I'm sure that was on the low end, but it's less than half what the Cap was projected to be and above what the Bengals for example have already committed to next years cap. So I'd guess they'd work something out among the owners and the NFLPA. But after this year, not much reason to think that the Cap won't continue to go up. Unless pandemic's become a trend, the long term future of the league shouldn't be impacted too significantly.

Dodgers sign Jimmy Nelson

That would appear to be the case. A promising pitching career destroyed by a pick off play while running the bases. Truly sad. Wasn't it after he over-ran first base on a base hit? That'd still be a pickoff, but just...even worse somehow. -
Packer Offensive Roster Analysis: 2019 vs 2020
HiAndTight replied to CheezWizHed's topic in Other Sports
I'm definitely hoping Veldheer comes back...though I would guess he'd have cost as much or more than Wagner. I'd have to think there would be a lot of teams interested in him and the demand will only go up when a couple guys go down with injury. It's a bad time for Nijman to be missing off-season work as he seems to have all the athletic ability you would want in a LT. He could conceivably play RT for a while and then move to LT if things went well(though I do hope they keep Bahk through another contract). -
I didn't say or suggest what the impact would be on MLB moving forward at all. I looked at the actual numbers of what it is right NOW and made a statement based on those numbers. There was no guessing or speculation or predicting the future. Just a statement based on the low number that has tested positive thus far.
-
Yeah, it's actually a pretty small number. I think it was in Orlando that ~33 pct of all people who came to the Hospital for non-covid related reasons(car accidents, etc...) tested positive without knowing it. So the impact on MLB is extremely small.

Packer Defensive Roster Analysis: 2019 vs 2020
HiAndTight replied to CheezWizHed's topic in Other Sports
??? Are you thinking of someone else? Burks didn't start a single game last year and only played 57 defensive snaps all year. He was out injured for 4 games last year and listed on the injury report for a 5th. Maybe it took a few more games (I'll give him 6 more) to get back to playing condition and feeling good. That still gives him 6 regular-season games where he made zero impact with two scrubs playing ahead of him. If he was really incapable of playing for 8-10 games, they would've put him on IR. Yeah, I understand he didn't start. That's because he suffered the Torn Pec in the Pre-season. A Torn pec is almost always a season ending injury. Just not gonna knock a 2nd year guy who's a converted safety because he didn't produce in a season in which he had a pretty serious injury. He'll get his chance this year though...so we'll see what he can do with that 4.59 speed. -
Packer Offensive Roster Analysis: 2019 vs 2020
HiAndTight replied to CheezWizHed's topic in Other Sports
Yeah, I agree it's risky, but you're going to be paying Wagner 11 over 2 years and he's missed more time the past few years and he was awful last year. And while Bulaga hasn't been named to any Pro-Bowl's, I think that's a little mis-leading. You know how poorly represented the OL usually is at the Pro-Bowl. Other than the elite LT's, it's usually not that indicative of the most deserving players. All that said, the only reason I'm taking the risk is just because of Rodgers. We've seen how bad this offense looks when we've had to play without Bulaga save for when Veldheer came in last year and he only came back reluctantly. So if Wagner is as bad as he was last year, that right side is going to be in a lot of trouble. Now not only did you not go out and get Rodgers the weapons via the draft or Free Agency, but you made the offense worse. I guess I just don't understand...they said they wanted to keep him. They couldn't have expected he was going to get less than he got in LA. Maybe he expected more from the Packers for his time here? I don't know. It's going to be very interesting to see what they do with Bahktiari in another year. Hell, it'd be a good idea to try and work out a deal with him NOW if not for the uncertainty surrounding Covid. Anyway...it's over and done with now...so hopefully Wagner can bounce back with his return to Wisconsin. I don't expect the Packers to be 13-3 again, but I just don't want to see things end badly with Rodgers(and as much as I like Love, it feels like things could go that way pretty easily).
