Sorry you had to see a stinker. My first was sometime in the Mid 90's, and was definitely a stinker. I remember my first game. I wasn't old enough to remember most of it, but it was the Bucks vs Magic, Shaq's rookie year. End of the season, so my Grandpa was able to get seats right behind the Magic bench. 4 or 5 rows deep. Kinda set up unrealistic expectations moving forward. Though we got absolutely crushed, all I remember is Brad Lohaus hitting a 3 right in front of me...and the size of Shaq(and that was probably 130 pounds ago).

Packer 2021 Team Discussion (Rodgers Out Vs. Chiefs)
HiAndTight replied to CheezWizHed's topic in Other Sports
I feel for him and totally respect his decision not to play last year. However, I agree with a lot of the comments as well. Some of us don't really have a choice. It is not "selling your soul for a check." I still had to provide for my family last year. I don't have the money or luxury of just walking away for a year. Regardless, hope he has a great year. Yeah, my guess is he was just annoyed with some of the comments. They're so ridiculous. I don't think he was saying it's selling your soul to earn a check to provide for your family. That was probably a poor choice of words on his part, but I think he was responding to those upset he didn't play for the Packers last year. Even in that thread I saw people running their mouths about him not being very good, pointing out that Doctors and Nurses had to work(not sure how that's relevant). I feel for him that he lost people to Covid. But tens of millions of people did. So I feel for a lot of people...it is terrible. And you couldn't see them at the end, so it was tougher than normal. Beyond that, I'm indifferent. Play, don't play, I love the game and watching it, but I get why people opted out. Do what is best for you. I remember when Raji walked away for what was supposed to be one season because two family members, IIRC, his mother and his grandma were both extremely sick. That hurt the team, but people need to do what's best for them(which is obvious to most of us, but the Tweeter is another world). I guess dealing with idiots is kinda baked into an NFL players salaries, but it's sad how many of them there are. -
I sure hope not. The dude is 6'4, has a cannon for an arm and for a point of reference, the fastest Lamar Jackson has run in the NFL, 21.01 MPH. Lance, 21.54. So he's probably in the low 4.3's in terms of his 40 time. A talent like that COULD almost be a Mahomes-Jackson hybrid if he hits his ceiling. That would be if he actually becomes the Giannis of this draft. There's a real chance 5 QB's could be picked in the top 8. This mock has Jones going 11th to Chicago and the Packers having to move up to 21 to get Newsome. https://www.nfl.com/news/four-round-2021-nfl-mock-draft-2-0-49ers-pounce-on-trey-lance-at-no-3

It's kinda tough right now with Portis playing so well, but I have higher hopes for Tucker. If nothing else, wasn't he one of the best defenders against KD in the NBA? Tucker, Jrue, two guys who play better in the postseason. That's reason for optimism.
-
Yeah, I stole that almost exclusively from Kentucky Radio talking about how they were disappointed in their recent teams. I have Satellite, so I'm still not sure why I was listening to the local UK call-in show, but that was their take. So if Kentucky fans aren't loving it...I figured there'd be ample reason for UT fans to not love it at the moment.

I just saw Parsons mocked to the Packers. That doesn't mean anything...I just thought it was funny. There are so many mocks and they vary so much, it's nothing more than anecdotal at this point, but I'd be very surprised if they took an off-ball LB'er at #6 over a couple of real blue-chip offensive players. But either way, they could come away with one of the best offensive players and a stud LB'er if Parsons makes it to them at 18. I'll be honest about Pitts though, I don't get it. #5? He's an amazing TE prospect, I just feel like there are too many players at more important positions. But I guess if you wanna get Tua the weapons to succeed, a big security blanket who can run like a Deer is a good option.
-
I'm not sure what that meant either. You'd say "on average" if you were talking about a top 5 class. He had two #1's and that's it. Actually, if you did average it out, it'd be much lower. Anyway, I think recruiting classes are a bit overrated in CBB. Maybe he's a coach that does better with the #30 recruiting class and kids that'll be there for 2-3 years rather than one or two high profile signees who leave after one year. Turner, Allen, Bamba, Hayes...and a couple of others. He has at least produced quite a bit of NBA-level talent and they were pretty damn good this year. Kinda surprising he'd be leaving UT at this point for Marquette, but as someone who doesn't hate Marquette despite being a Badger, I'm a fan of this move.
-
Yeah, that's really strange. It's strange at any point, but over a month out. It would certainly suggest that the 49'ers believe at LEAST two of the top 3 QB's after Lawrence are worth taking and they have a VERY high grade on them. And it seems like it's pretty much a given that there will be a run of QB's. Top 4 picks...so the Dolphins know they can go back up to 6 and get a premium prospect like Chase or Sewell there. Probably who they'd have taken if they were picking 3rd anyway. For the Dolphins to be willing to give up their 1st next year, they must REALLY feel confident in Tua and believe he's going to be a stud. They are a team that's still sorta rebuilding(though they're definitely coming out of the end of it). So that is a big deal.
-
In a normal year, I'd definitely disagree. A top 3 pick for a franchise LT is not too high at all. 2nd or 3rd most important position. It just so happens most people think it' a given that the top 4 picks will be QB's and there is a VERY good chance they'd be able to draft Sewell at #6 anyway. Just to add to what everyone else has said, what an absolute BRILLIANT trade for Miami. That could be a franchise builder. If...Sewell is as good as advertised, and he's been talked about as a top 5 pick the last two years, then you get a BETTER LT, you get 4 more picks and you don't have to pay the LT you drafted for the period in which you weren't competitive anyway(which I get doesn't really factor in, but still). That could end up being a Hershel Walker-esque trade. Miami now has 13 picks in the top 2 rounds the next 3 years, they've got TWO 1st rounders the next two years. So they can go with Tua as they build this roster the right way...and if they miss, they'll be able to take another big swing next year with Sam Howell and a whole bunch of other QB's coming in THAT deep draft class.
-
I would assume it's going to be Fields as I think Lawrence and Wilson are now the favorites to go 1-2. Lance would be a gutsy pick, but I have a hard time seeing him go before one of the top 3. Either way, just to put it in perspective, Wilson has been compared by many to Love with Kiper saying Love had more upside...but was not as consistent in his Collegiate career as Zach Wilson. Wilson is about half a year younger, but he also didn't deal with a fraction of the turnover that Love did at Utah State. Now I'm definitely on the "go all-in with Rodgers" bandwagon, but I also understood why they'd take a QB they were THAT high on him. Just too important of a position to not take that talent when it's there(also remember there were many mocks that have Love going ahead of Herbert and teams that had Love over Herbert).
-
Jaran Reed expected to be cut by Seattle. Would be yet another fit with the Packers. A near perfect fit...though likely going to cost more than the Packers can afford.
-
Yes 15 is odd I guess you could explain 5 by him not liking the service received. But even at 10 that is an alarming number. I don't think that's really that odd. An NFL QB is getting them probably daily and after workouts. It IS odd that you'd hire a licensed personal trainer to give you a massage...

Packer 2021 Team Discussion (Rodgers Out Vs. Chiefs)
HiAndTight replied to CheezWizHed's topic in Other Sports
I'm not trying to talk myself into anything with King other than...he's a better option than guys like Sherman for this defense. He's tall, he's an elite athlete and he's cheap. Nobody's is arguing he's good, just that he's not AS bad as people who are leaning too heavily on the NFCCG. I don't recall any of the guys you listed signing for a one year deal as cheap as King's current deal pays. So pretty much the worst case scenario is we go into next year with the same group of players that was a top 10 defense without Pettine. And most people believe that the Packers will address this position early in the draft. -
Packer 2021 Team Discussion (Rodgers Out Vs. Chiefs)
HiAndTight replied to CheezWizHed's topic in Other Sports
Yeah, I remember all the reporters, a few of whom "guaranteed" Rodgers had played his last snap for the Packers after this seasons NFCCG when he said his future was uncertain. This is just more nonsense to me. The Packers would have to be fools to move on from Rodgers just to hope that Love is ready to take over. I'd like to see them commit and extend Rodgers, but not doing so at this point just doesn't force them to do one thing or another. I don't believe there's any world in which the Packers have already made their mind up about trading Jordan Love next year before he's taken one snap in a pre-season game. -
Ahh...ok. Makes sense. I liked the VERY little I saw of him this year. And I guess now that I think about it...I didn't really watch much of the Badgers last year. So I missed most of what you're referring to.
-
I don't get this. What's the problem with Davison? And I'm not arguing, I see his stats this year, he was awful inside the 3 point line, but the very little Badgers BB I watched this year, he seemed like their glue guy. Normally I watch 15-20 Badgers games a year, this year I watched a couple of games at the end and the UNC game. So, again, not a subtle way of disagreeing, an honest question. He did seem absolutely terrible at the rim, that could get old(see Bledsoe, Eric, NBA Playoffs)...but a good shooter and a hustle guy.

There are reports that at least 6 teams are still actively pursuing Watson....for whatever that's worth.

Not really odd. It is really hard to get victims to come forward and actually press real charges. So the other course of action is to bring civil charges. In a civil case the accusers don't have to testify and can remain anonymous. In a criminal charge I believe the accusers have to face the accused. Which means they are in the public. So most sexual assault charges at least the high profile ones are normally done in a civil case. That's not really why these cases end up in criminal court rather than civil court. Women in Civil Court are subjected to just about the same amount of scrutiny. Civil Cases are more likely because the burden of proof is lower, because victims often wait a long time before reporting a crime, which often means they have no recourse through criminal court like most of Bill Cosby's victims. I've never heard of a case in which 24 women accused one man and the police hadn't filed a single report and hadn't taken a single statement prior to the lawsuit. The biggest difference, to win a civil case, you just need the majority of the jury to side with you...not every single juror. With he said-she said cases in which there is no DNA, there is almost no criminal recourse. Also, many of the accusations are not actually criminal as far as I understand. They're awful...subjecting women to very difficult working environments, but to prove that exposing yourself during a massage in which you're usually naked with just a towel covering you, especially in your own home, that doesn't meet any criminal standard that I know of. I don't have an agenda here and I don't want to get political or infer I don't believe Women. We all know how celebrities have a sense of entitlement(or they can). I'm just really to believe Tony Buzbee and the way this played out. All but one of the accusations say that he refused to cover himself during a massage. The other accuses him of sexual assault. But really where the civil vs criminal argument falls apart in this case, after Watson turned down a "settlement" deal for 30,000 dollars(that number comes from a Houston Paper), that's when the Lawyer contacted the Police...who he said are now investigating(though at the time he said that, the Houston Police Dept still had not opened any investigations and knew nothing about this). A criminal investigation would only strengthen a civil case. So it doesn't make sense they wouldn't have started with a criminal complaint before offering a settlement. It IS very common for a victim to go to a lawyer before contacting the Police(and smart).

They are a good team but not a great team. I don't think anyone on that team is a #1 type of a player they are just a bunch of #2's and #3's though they have a bunch of #2's and #3's on their team. They should have a better record than what they have right now but I wouldn't call the Celtics a really good team. You may be right, but Tatum looks like a #1 to me. Just turned 23, a 6'9 wing. 25/7/4 a night and about 40 pct from 3 for his career. Jaylon Brown's numbers aren't far off, but Tatum is just more impressive to me. There are rumors they're talking to Orlando about a trade, Smart+ 2 first rounders for Aaron Gordon and Evan Fournier. I don't know Gordon's game well enough to have a strong opinion, but if he's got the play making ability and can facilitate like Horford used to, he could be a great fit in Boston. A versatile big like Gordon who can shoot and jump out of the building, that might really open things up for them.

Packer 2021 Team Discussion (Rodgers Out Vs. Chiefs)
HiAndTight replied to CheezWizHed's topic in Other Sports
I totally agree. Also, some of the names being thrown out to replace him....Sherman for example. I honestly think at this point, Sherman would be worse in our defense than King. King had a very bad game against a very deep WR'ing core vs the Buccs, but he's been a competent starter and worth a pretty meager contract. Most people assumed he'd get a pretty nice contract in free agency just based on his size and his speed. Instead, we bring him back on another one year deal that incentivizes him. And it certainly doesn't seem as though we're just going to stand pat at CB. -

For a team that has big questions about it's OL as of now, Lewis could be even more important this year. Even if we draft a really good OT in the 1st round, Bahk will almost certainly start the year in the PUP list. And if you listen to Rodgers on the Mcafee show, he was maybe the most popular locker room presence and among the most respected players on the roster. This is almost like fortifying the OL and keeping the veteran leadership in place. If they were to extend Adams and find a way to land Janoris Jenkins, I'd be feeling pretty good heading into the draft. Edit-I didn't even notice that Jenkins had signed a deal with the Titans a week ago. -

If it's actually 4 million guaranteed, it's actually a two-year deal with cap numbers of 2 point whatever each year, in all likelihood. We should also keep in mind that part of the last CBA(or mini CBA) there was a provision in there that allowed a team to sign a veteran for roughly 2.5 million and have that only count 950K against the cap. That was before this season IIRC when they were negotiating the extended rosters, etc...they'd be playing with through Covid. So I think it's entirely possible they signed him to a two year contract that may effectively be a veterans minimum as far as the cap is concerned. -
Packer 2021 Team Discussion (Rodgers Out Vs. Chiefs)
HiAndTight replied to CheezWizHed's topic in Other Sports
Right..this bit you added, that's a fair assessment of my argument. I definitely argued that because you aren't "all-in on Aaron Rodgers being the QB of this team to his mid-40's, that you don't long for this team to win a Super Bowl." That almost word for word what I said. I said if you don't 100 pct believe Rodgers will be the QB at age 45, you must not be all in. That's a perfect characterization of my position. I'm also not sure where I argued they didn't have talent on offense, but you're really making no effort to even approximate my arguments, so, this seems fruitless. -
Packer 2021 Team Discussion (Rodgers Out Vs. Chiefs)
HiAndTight replied to CheezWizHed's topic in Other Sports
Right, but I'm arguing they should invest more while they have the historically great QB and you seem concerned about dead cap space that may hinder their chances after the QB leaves...when a significant drop off is virtually inevitable(Even if Love is a great QB). So I'm advocating they act more aggressively now...like pretty much every other contender in the NFC(though not even AS aggressively, and you're talking about dead cap space after Rodgers retires...which somehow infers you love the Packers more I guess? Ok. -
Well, putting him in man coverage without any help was also pretty brutal. As for Sherman...I just can't see it. He's been a guy who's played in a cover 3 scheme or a Tampa 2 most of his career. Both in our scheme last year and the one Berry ran, they rely on a lot of man coverage. I can see Heyward back. Not playing outside, but he was always smart and instinctual in the slot. Not sure they have moved on from him quite yet. I could see a 1 year deal for cheap. 2.5 counts just 950 against the cap this year. I don't know if anyone's offering him more or not.
