  1. I'd laugh, but I've stepped barefoot on a cactus as well. Sometimes little clusters of cactus with about 7-8 needles will break away and wind up on the driveway or patio (especially after we have wind). Heck, as a golfer I've gotten it really bad at times. All Arizona golfers learn to beware of jumping cholla after they get stuck the first time.
  2. Green has 1.5 good minor league seasons. He's a backup 2b/3b at best, unless he has a breakthrough. He needs to be in AAA showing the Brewers he deserves to be around in 2015
  3. if no UWGB, then hopefully UWM makes the big dance. I was thinking Cleveland St and Valpo would be contenders for the title as they're the perennial top teams. But UWM vs Wright St makes things interesting.
  4. Green needs to prove himself in AAA. He also needs to solidify himself at 3b. We should not keep two 2b unless one can play elsewhere.
  5. I'm envisioning Overbay being let go or sent to AAA, Francisco playing a little, and Reynolds hitting .220 with 35 hr. Long live 3TO
  6. where's Mike Lindskog, the former High Desert announcer? I used to like listening to him while in college, and he even invited me into the booth in San Jose
  7. I only extend him if he offers a discount. But realistically we need to take the Rays' approach and trade pitchers while they have value. Given that Thornburg, Jungmann, Fiers, Burgos, and Nelson are capable of contributing at the MLB level, I would have no problem trading Yo for 3 AA/AAA prospects.
  8. With a 12-man pitching staff, there's always room for a project. We had success with Graeme Lloyd and mixed results with guys like Al Reyes and Jose Mercedes. I always like the rule V draft. Seems like a good pick and he has a chance. Plus until Gorzy is throwing, I won't count on him.
  9. Steve Taylor really should have redshirted this year. Buzz doesn't use the redshirt very well...if he did, we'd have had Cadougan this year.
  10. Looks like NIT, CBI, or CIT for Marquette. This team has lots of flaws. I'll be glad after this year when Jamil Wilson is gone...not because he's a bad player, but because then I won't have to hear all his apologists constantly declaring that he's the best athlete that MU has had since Wade. Derek Wilson has some nice skills--defense and ball handling--but he cannot penetrate, doesn't create for himself OR others, cannot shoot, and cannot break a press. Otule is very solid defensively and I'm glad to see him healthy, but his offensive limitations mean he should play in the last 5 minutes of close games. Gardner has returned to form in the 2nd half after a tough first few games. I still don't see why Anderson was a consensus top-100 recruit. Jake Thomas really showed us a lot after many of us were calling for his benching in November. Next year's team (at least in November) may be a lot shorter, but should play much faster. Mayo, Burton, Wilson, Johnson, and Anderson could comprise the starting 5 in November and that'd play awfully fast. Off the bench that would leave Wilson, Dawson, and the newcomers. That's a pretty athletic team
  11. I still need to watch Animal House, Caddyshack, Stripes, and Ghostbusters every time on. Stripes is one of my all-time favorite movies--right up there with the Blues Brothers, Airplane!, etc
  12. .326/.406 44 hr, 6th in MVP voting despite best numbers in NL
  13. If Hellweg is successful as a starter in the majors, it'll be by taking the Wainwright/Lowe route of going to the pen for a few years to refine mechanics and have success before converting to the rotation.
  14. to go with what I said before.... Evan Frederickson, Eric Arnett, Kyle Heckathorn, Matt Laporta, Jeremy Jeffress, Mark Rogers, Jon Steitz, Dane Artman, Josh Murray, Eric "mega" Thomas, JM Gold, Nick Neugebauer, Chad Green, Antone Williamson, Kyle Peterson, Dylan Covey, Seth Lintz, Cutter Dykstra, Corey Adams, Brent Brewer, Josh Wahpepah, Josh Baker, Lou Palmisano, Mike Jones, David Krynzel, etc etc etc. I want to build through the minor leagues, but we can't be afraid to try to improve our team now because we're afraid of losing a draft pick THAT in all likelihood will never reach AAA anyways. If the Brewers were to make moves like the O's did with Cruz, I'd be thrilled
  15. I'm not sure I agree about the parity. Last year was a year of parity. There was nobody that really stood out entering the tournament, and we had teams with 8 or 9 wins in the top 25. This year we have a dominant 5-6 teams at the top, then about 10 teams that are all capable of making a great run, following by more solid teams. This is one of those years where everyone will choose one of about 6 teams to win it all.
  16. I guess I'm not sure I get all the criticism. If Cruz has a 40-homer year, he could be trade-bait or he could be re-signed. With a good season at $8 million, he's a bargain compared to most 2nd round draft picks. I think most teams dream of their draft picks hitting 40 homers in a season...he could do it THIS year. Sometimes I think things have swung the other way and people are now over-valuing draft picks
  17. Gindl will be in Milwaukee. His power, obp, defense, and left-handedness help. You forgot Thornburg in the rotation. Don't forget Brock K in OF/1b/DH. I could see Scooter in AAA to allow the Brewers to see what they have in Weeks.
  18. Mr. Southpaw, I'd like to see us find long-term solutions at 1b and 3b. Ramirez might be around a few seasons. We have no viable 1b options. Green seems a backup at 2b/3b at best
  19. Hopefully he can bounce back. There's still a lot of money to be made, and MLB is currently weak at 1b.
  20. does the pension kick in then? I know the big pension is earned after 10 years of service time.
  21. danzig, sounds nice except for Francisco is allergic to walks. Reynolds could hit 30 points less than Francisco, but carry a better OBP. His defense is also passable at least
  22. I think of that 2000 Olympic squad that had Roy Oswalt, Ben Sheets, and Jon Rauch (pre-major arm surgery). Wow
  23. wow, congrats Bucky fans. I really thought they'd be 5-6 after this game. Huge win for the Badgers considering they still have a difficult schedule. Ok...now for Marquette to make their typical end of season run...or else the CIT, CBI, or NIT are calling.
  24. Does this mean UWM is now best in the state? It's obviously Wisconsin this year. Although even they are quite vulnerable. Good to see all 4 teams over .500
  25. Just curious, but has anyone else thought about how deep our rotation is? Not in any particular order: MLB- Gallardo, Lohse, Garza, Estrada, Peralta AAA- Thornburg, Nelson, Fiers, Burgos, Hellweg AA- Jungmann, Pena, Hall, Moye, and a host of A+ ballers that did well last year. It's definitely possible that we shop Gallardo for 2-4 prospects at the all-star break, then slot Thorny or Nelson into the rotation. Potentially in the off-season we could deal Lohse or Estrada as well, while still having lots of depth.
