I don't mind bunting, but I don't like it in that situation. Given the defensive alignment and how Betancourt often hits the ball hard, the outcome could have been better with a swing. Of course, if he broke a finger, it would mean we'd at least temporarily get another SS
X, I want to explore signing Greinke and Marcum. We don't know their level of interest. For instance, what if Marcum loves Milwaukee and wants to sign? I understand your point, but my first attempt at upgrading the shortstop position would be through trading McGehee and/or Hart. I'd also look at free agency, and if a decent rental for one year is available, I'm fine with that.
homer and Kat, the iphone is the best I've had for reception with AT&T. I've been with them since their Cingular days (2003) and I've always had problems with dropped calls. However, that's the tradeoff I get for actually being able to make/receive calls in places in Wisconsin, Montana, and Arizona where none of my friends with other providers could. I dropped calls, but at least they connected in the first place. The iphone has had the best reception from AT&T that I've had, although I've even noticed a huge upgrade in the last 10 months in part because of Apple addressing the failings of their network.
back to the idea of dealing Wolf or Marcum. Why downgrade your rotation? Peralta is--in all likelihood--not going to outperform those guys in 2012. So why intentionally downgrade your rotation now that it's a strength? Why give up depth? It's as crazy as when people will claim we're letting Taylor Green, Caleb Gindl, or Mat Gamel rot in AAA. We own their rights in the minors, and it's too bad for them they don't have MLB jobs waiting for them...but it's a good sign that we have depth.
X, I'd rather pursue trading Corey Hart and/or Casey McGehee for a starting shortstop. We have adequate replacements for both who actually profile as better OBP guys and happen to balance the lineup by batting from the left-side I'd expect Peralta next month in Milwaukee, along with occasional visits next year while he's refining things in AAA. Remember, he's been a pitcher living on "potential" moreso than results until July 1st . Heck, Mark Rogers has had that much success, he just hasn't done so lately.
I don't get why Don Money gets criticized. These guys will open up in the majors likely hitting 1, 2, 5, 6, 7, or 8. I like rotating them so players are comfortable anywhere.
why is his suspension ending on Sept 1st? He's on the 40-man and his suspension was MLB not MiLB. I would think his suspension would be without pay and would be served now
One question...so Mark's suspended, but he's on the 40 man roster. Doesn't that mean he's technically serving his suspension right now? If it means he'd miss games next year, then does he get to go on some sort of minor league rehab to build arm strength?
I wouldn't trade any of our starters right now, except Wolf/Narvy in the right circumstances. I like the idea of Peralta getting a year in AAA to refine things and still becoming a rotation regular at the age of 23 in 2013. Plus, now that we have some quality depth, I'd hate to lose it. Peralta's time will come
I'd always considered the AL East (except the Rays), the Cards, Cubs, Nationals, Mets, Rangers, Rockies, M's, Giants, Astros, and Angels to be potential suitors for Fielder. Nearly all of them would pay him more than the Brewers would.
adambr2, I saw you started this thread and I thought you'd be suggesting we deal depth to improve our bench, just as clancy used to try to make everyone play new positions. I wouldn't touch our rotation. we have no reason to change things. Assuming a new compensation exists after 2012, I'd let Wolf walk and put Peralta in the rotation. If Rogers or someone else emerges as an option right as Narvy is getting to arbitration, I'd also consider moving Narvy. I'd make our lineup changes from within (except perhaps SS) and I'd look to sign a solid reliever or two, and perhaps bring back Hawkins or Saito.
Nate, I fully expect the Yankees, Red Sox, O's, Blue Jays, Cubs, Giants, Dbacks, Rangers, and Mariners to be openly bidding for Fielder. Some would want him to DH, others would want him just to boost their lineups.
Toby, things on the banned list are okay as long as they have a prescription. But they have to acquire them through proper channels. That's why MLB was looking into the huge surge in Aderroll use in MLB.
Foxy, why would you expect Braddock to be on the team? As for Wolf, yes he could start. But we'll try to avoid using him and sticking with a 3-man rotation like most teams try to do.
I should clarify...I have no idea if he's even planning a comeback. He pretty much destroyed everything possible in the vicinity of the elbow. But given out history, and given how great he was for us, if he wants to try a comeback then I'd love to give it a try.
