  1. TheCrew, some have totally forgotten that Gamel was so highly thought of. What's funny is that many of them are high on Taylor Green. I've been high on both for several years now, but I have to say Gamel is more closer to a sure thing since he's had multiple seasons that were outstanding, whereas Green has really had 1.5 great seasons. I'm hoping for big things out of our G-guys--Gamel, Green, and Gindl. I think all could hit .285+ with nice OBP's and 15-25 hr power. Best part is, all bat left-handed.
  2. wow, so baseball is so cut-throat that you can't take a chance with a recent Brewers' great on a minor league deal and camp invite? In the business world there's a human element, but to you there's no human element to baseball? We still don't even know if he's trying to come back, but don't the Brewers at least owe him--and the fans--a chance to attempt a comeback given how great he played for us for years?
  3. We can't say that. What if Morales' career goes like Dale Sveum's and he never fully recovers. Gamel's better OBP numbers might actually make him more productive.
  4. I think that for some of us, Ben Sheets not only represented the best pitcher in a Brewers uniform since Teddy Higuera, but there's also some remorse that he wasn't able to experience these better times. He was far better than Vogelsong, and he managed to put ineffective seasons and injuries behind him. I'd always give Ben a chance if he wants one.
  5. If I remember correctly, isn't OJ his half-brother? Perhaps college recruiters overlook bloodlines as much as MLB scouting directors overvalue them.
  6. Sheets had several major surgeries at once. I haven't seen anything in a while, but I would hope that he attempts to come back. He was such a pleasure to watch
  7. the non-tender deadline is Monday night. I assume we'll have to have a pretty good idea on Ramirez before we make decisions on guys like McGehee, Kotteras, and Loe
  8. I wouldn't mind us signing a guy like Theriot to back up in the infield, although ideally we'd find a lefty swinging utility guy. And Thumperden, Gonzalez is a stopgap? Sorry but who do we have that replaces him after one year? I hope Prince rebounds in AA, but I'm not counting on it
  9. I wouldn't do it. I absolutely despise backloaded and deferred contracts. Why should we hurt our payroll in 2015-2023? I hate the notion of paying someone not to play for us
  10. i can't stand deferring money. I would also not do the stupid baseball strategy of backloading the contract. I'd just offer him 3 years at $36 million ($11 million per year) with a $3 million buyout of an $11 million option
  11. so does this mean that Casey, Loe, or others could be non-tendered? I would love to see if Hart can land us a shortstop and a reliever.
  12. Why don't we trade Hart? See if that can land us a shortstop and a relief arm. Trading Hart, non-tendering McGehee, and losing Fielder, Saito, and Hawkins would be significant for balancing the payroll. Gindl can get 1st crack in RF, and we could sign a cheap RH option for depth. sign Ramirez for 3b, and check in on Furcal, Scutaro, etc for SS.
  13. How does this impact things? well, I'd imagine that Parra may get non-tendered now, Saito may not be brought back, and Hawkins is already gone. In those three we'll be saving probably at least $5-6 million. The bullpen will likely now include McClendon and Braddock, along with perhaps other cheap options.
  14. Seems like a decent contract given how awesome Buehrle has been in his career. I wouldn't want the Brewers paying him that, but he's been so good that it seems like fair price
  15. supposedly the Padres were actively seeking a multi-year deal with KRod until this materialized
  16. Scutaro would be a cheap option, and at the very least a good option as a utility guy.
  17. Paul, just remember that given that Taylor Green has had 2/3rds of a good season in 3 years. It's more likely that it'd be Rollins and McGehee with Green in AAA to open the year. I am intrigued that Ramirez's agent appears interested in having conversations with the Brewers for both Ramirez AND Furcal. If we could upgrade both spots, it would cost roughly $20 million. We could probably trade Hart (teams like the Red Sox are supposedly interested) to clear salary space, with Gindl playing RF. But it's hard to upgrade both 3b and SS without weakening another spot (although the case could be made that Gindl is a wash with Hart)
  18. instead of fluoride rinses, just switch to regular tapwater instead of plastic bottles. It has the fluoride you need in it, and it's at healthy levels.
  19. In fairness, was Krynzel really much of a prospect when he had the accident?
  20. Affeldt typically is one of the worst pitchers in the game. I haven't looked at his stats recently, and don't plan on it. But he's like Scott Schoenweis (SP?)...a terrible pitcher that has had a few good stretches.
  21. in '04, Sheets had virtually identical stats to Santana, who I think won the AL Cy Young. Yet Sheets wasn't even in the voting in the NL. He was simply brilliant. We'll never see a K:BB like his
  22. It's worth checking out what he's after. As Al said, he was perhaps rushed, although I credit his struggles to the major shoulder injuries he had. Remember when he was supposed to be the centerpiece to the proposed trade of Sexson to the Dodgers?
  23. A small bid makes sense. Likely better defensively than Yuni
  24. gregmag, they grandfathered in the guys that were acquired this season. In the future teams cannot get picks for midseason acquisitions since the Jays (and others) had been compiling picks lately
  25. Will Inman and Steve Garrison were signed to minor league deals by other organizations the other day. So they could make this list. Heck, Garrison has at least pitched in the majors
