  1. wow, so shocked they weren't pushing Narveson as far as they could. The Dbacks hadn't touched him and the Dbacks--like the Cards--always seem to win these kinds of games. I wasn't happy with the change, but also felt okay with K-Rod. Just a question, how was that not an error? It wasn't even a hard play
  2. McClung had 1 good outing from the Brewers' pen in '08 that was simply incredible, but besides that he was very mediocre as a Brewer. Thatcher would be righting a wrong. Balfour would be righting a wrong. Breslow would be righting a wrong. Adams would be righting a wrong.
  3. He's been great, but I would love to see him start drawing some walks. I like that he seems to have a plan at the plate and the plan changes based on circumstances. His defense is outstanding. While his range might not quite be as good as Gomez's, I think he goes back on balls better than Gomez and gets a better jump on balls...but that's splitting hairs.
  4. yeah, the dust storms are often associated with monsoon season. Didn't know about another one today...I get back there for the long haul in 2 weeks for school to start
  5. and once again, we'd only get one pick since K-Rod will likely be a type B free agent according to mlbtraderumors. So no harm in offering arbitration. The worst thing that could happen is he'd accept, and we'd have a dominant bullpen that makes a total of around $12-15 million
  6. According to MLB trade rumors, K-Rod will be a type B free agent, so offering him arby would not hold him back in free agency
  7. Braddock seems unable to throw strikes these days. He's not pitching ahead in counts...those are problems!
  8. Nader Raider Tim, even at Valverde's $7M rate, I would imagine K-Rod surpassing that deal. What amazes me is his age as well....only 29. I would imagine the very bottom end for his market is 3 years and $21 million, but most likely 3 years and $24-30 million is the true bottom of the line.
  9. Interesting that Wheeler played 2b. Is he now being groomed as a utility player? Hopefully he gets back to AAA soon since he belongs there
  10. As for the comment from the Keith Law chat, why would K-Rod accept arbitration from the Brewers and get roughly $10-12 million, when he could sign elsewhere for 3 years and $25-30 million? Given that Axford won't even be arbitration eligible, Saito and Hawkins are free agents, and the rest are cheap, we could actually assemble a bullpen for a total of around $15 million with KRod comprising 80% of that (for one year, then he likely declines arbitration the next year)
  11. actually, looking at Wilson's AAA stats (in nearly 2000 at bats of regular playing time as opposed to 900 in mlb that's been sporadic), I wouldn't mind having him start at SS about 60-70% of the time. a .270/.330 line is quite possible. As he said earlier this year, he had some swing changes that may have helped him in his time with the Brewers.
  12. Also, if he's making $11.5 million this year while being a very good closer, I wonder how likely the Brewers would be to offer arbitration. I doubt he'd accept for a myriad of reasons, but it's also a huge risk for the Brewers. As for MLB possibly eliminating compensation, I wish they would go with an NFL-like system (except make it effective, unlike the NFL's weak system). That is, I'd like the league to have a committee that evaluates all off-season moves on the whole. All picks should be compensatory round picks, with no losing of team picks. For instance: a) Brewers lose K-Rod, Fielder, Betancourt, Hawkins, and Saito sign nobody of significance Brewers get 2 picks after first round, 2 after 2nd round b) Brewers lose the same players Brewers sign Jose Reyes, a 3b, and a setup man Brewers get no picks, or just a pick after the 2nd/3rd round depending on how free agents lost/gained compare
  13. ha, I'd only ever heard that before when I visited a buddy on the UW campus in Madison.
  14. I'll say Mitch Stetter (my first thought last night was Parra, but he's not in games yet) and Eric Arnett
  15. Weeks played a decent SS in the Fall League years ago, because I remember being impressed by his arm strength and range. Still, I would not think of switching him to SS. He's finally adequate at 2b
  16. My 14-month old puppy is named CC... Crazy
  17. We get Stetter back any day now.
  18. His big issue has been his lack of walks/OBP. Hopefully the obp skills develop over time
  19. Stetter has now made 2 or 3 rehab outings, so he could be an option soon as well
  20. this is quite common in other areas, such as airline fares and golf teetimes. If you look at teetimes in Las Vegas in the summer, the price differences can be very huge throughout the day
  21. we just need to have 2 good 5-8 game winning streaks, and no losing streaks greater than 2 games. Most teams are around .500 when you take out the streaks, and that would be the same here.
  22. Scarpetta is not Rule V eligible since he's on the 40-man roster. We're holding out hope that he'll be granted a 4th option year, or else we'd have to send him through waivers to get him to the minors. I'm guessing BrewCrewin2004 was right in his assessment that this was because of proximity. It was probably much easier to recall him from Huntsville than a player from Albuquerque.
  23. hopefully the guy isn't forced to pay taxes on the benefits from the ball. I think it would depend on who it was. For most guys, I'd give it back for something simple like a handshake, round of golf together, or signed baseball. But if it were a personal favorite, like Vladimir Guerrero, I'd love to keep it on my shelf in a display case.
  24. Interesting if Green were recalled. That would mean that perhaps someone was placed on the DL. I wonder if maybe Green was traded, because I doubt they'd send down Gamel to recall Green.
