  1. Russ, since Sheet's arm/elbow starting barking in June '08 and he pitched til September, I'm not sure it's a fair comparison
  2. Papelbon also had the problem with the separated shoulder. At the time, docs thought moving him to the rotation would be better for it, but he later (as previously mentioned) vetoed that
  3. Pudster, both groups are virtually the same. The Fielder, Laporta, Weeks, and Braun picks can't be considered bad. On your list I might like to have Utley, Maybin, Heyward, Hamels, and Kennedy. At this point Rogers and Jeffress are as likely to have a successful career as Bailey. I didn't think highly of Arnett when drafted (not sure why, since I'm no expert...I just normally don't like the college pitcher route, especially when he doesn't have a "BEST" tool. Why draft a potential #4 starter?).
  4. TooLiveBrew, yes, he lives in SoCal. My point was that he likely is seeing this first hand, and is in the midst of seeing a second straight lackluster season that we as Brewers fans haven't seen since Lopes/Royster. I think seeing this firsthand in his neck of the woods will only make the decision easier
  5. Invader, part of my reasoning is my desire, the other part is that Attanasio and his co-owners are on the west coast, likely taking in a bunch of the games.
  6. Well, at the start of the thread I predicted a 3-7 roadtrip would lead to Macha's dismissal. Three pathetic performances and a mediocre one, and we're 2-4 from my prediction. we'll see
  7. coach, best of luck to Angel and those around him. I know it has to be rough. The key is that by working hard and battling through life's curveballs, we can be stronger. Angel's still one of my favorite prospects. We can now look at players like Greinke and Hamilton as guys that have overcome fairly serious personal issues. Here's wishing him the best. I really enjoy reading Ash's comments that the Brewers will treat/support him as the individual first, then as a player second. It's ashame when a personal condition sidelines him, yet Jeffress makes CHOICES that affect him. But that's another rant
  8. I was never really high on Lopes. I loved Scap Iron. I thought Yost was fantastic given his role and deserved a long leash given his outstanding guidance of the prospects. I loved the Macha signing, but by mid-May last year I had learned to despise him. I miss Yost all the time, as he seemed to have a plan, even if it didn't always make sense. Macha often doesn't seem to have a plan, is notorious for being poorly organized in planning, loves to over-play his veterans to the point of over-exposing them (especially to injury), and seems emoionless. With an emotional, fun, energetic team, I really miss Yost's fire. Really, I think that since day one of Macha, we're playing at least 10 games below what we'd have with Yost. I realize he won't be back, but I can't wait til Sveum or Randolph takes over. If the Brewers go 3-7 on this roadtrip, I think we'll have a new manager when we return to Milwaukee
  9. so Woot used to have roomba's like 5 times a month, and always during wootoffs. My girlfriend has wanted to get one, and they seemingly haven't had one in months!
  10. filthyfrog, you could also argue that guys like Loe deserve to be the big league longman
  11. No need to retaliate when Weeks and Fielder dive over the plate as much as anyone. If we'd just add Carlos Quentin, we'd have an all HBP team!
  12. Periard starting, not Rogers. Still good to see a prospect going
  13. I assume that Narveson and Suppan switched because neither is excelling in their current roles. Parra has been good and learning to attack hitters for the first time...why mess with it? He can always become a starter again later
  14. note sure what to make of this off Jones, but 4 singles and 2 walks in the first allowed 5 runs. Of them, one was a single back to Jones, another was a single on a popup to Lawrie. Doesn't sounds like he was hit too hard. Nice outings by Peralta and Rivas!
  15. ha ha, thanks Mass. I'd better see if I can change my name to something less obvious! It just had my account setting saved from when I was in college subscribing to mlb.com gameday audio. okay, done. let's see if tomorrow my name is different
  16. brantley went to the minors and Laporta to LF because Branyan is back. Nothing more to the situation than that
  17. To be honest, signing Washburn wouldn't hurt. He likely would need some time in Extended Spring Training and then a month in the minors. He could have a June 15th AAA out-clause, allowing him to sign elsewhere or be called up, earning the pro-rated portion of a couple million dollar salary.
  18. Nice night for me to have Komatsu in MiLB Beat the Streak
  19. Funketown, splitting time wouldn't hurt. Both deserve to be in AAA given their offensive exploits in AA. Additionally, most of their games are vs AL foes, so they feature a DH.
  20. Invader3k, it may be just me. I was a fan of Yost because I liked what I saw. I loved how he deflected blame from his young players. The only critique I ever had of him was that he was terse with the media and fans in interviews. I generally agreed with his lineup cards and bullpen usage. Heck, every time that it seemed someone on Brewerfan.net complained about Yost's decisions not to use a pitcher, we usually found out that the pitcher was unavailable! He occasionally called for the sacrifice or the steal. Some of my favorite memories were of him running out to pitchers to tell them to stop messing around. I understood his firing given the timing, but I also wished it weren't so. It appears that one of my worst fears was realized...we have a manager worse than Ned. Some people hated Ned so much that they choose to give Macha a free pass. But I firmly believe Ned's presence helped lead the team to a few extra wins each season. Granted that's nothing compared to Sheets or CC, but it's still nice. Macha seems to cost us lots of games. In the end, I always say "did we win more games this year that we should have lost...or did we lose more that we should have won?" So far, we're in an awful hole.
  21. The Brewers played with fire and energy under Yost. He was more of a motivator. He was very structured, open with his players, and defended them to the end. Many of the same players seem lazy and lacking desire under Macha. He treats them as assets, not players. He's not very organized, shuns his players, and calls them out publicly. He has consistently not put the Brewers in chances to win by choosing to let relievers pitch based on "their track-record" rather than how they look in the immediate game. He's consistently shown a lack of baseball strategy by failing to bunt late in games when it can put a runner in scoring position for Braun and Fielder, and in 2009 it often failed as the 1-2 hitters would hit into GIDPs rather than successfully sacrificing. I can't see Attanasio letting Macha keep leading this club if they're under .500 on May 1st, when they should be much better. He fired one manager for winning, now its time to fire a manager for losing. I hope Sveum takes over
  22. yes...I have thoughts. Let Kotteras and Zaun play this year out. Then next year when we need to save money, we choose either one of them AND Kotteras, or both of them. I don't say trade them.
  23. Bring back Ned! Yost always had one of the best records in MLB in 1-run games. Under Macha, we've seen more lackluster performances than any other seasons in my life than perhaps the Lopes/Royster years. We know Macha is not very well organized, while Ned was anal. We know Ned used a few stats in his decisions while Ken uses them more. But this guy cannot manage a team to save his life. It's god awful. Last year was the least fun year I've had as a Brewers fan (I started following in 1992) and this season is looking to go that way as well
  24. Wow...tasty menu tonight. Not sure of Waters, but 4 of the 5 scheduled pitchers have me happy
  25. So are the lack of contacts/glasses the reason that Corey Hart leads MLB, MiLB, and little league in balls lost in the lights/sun over the past 3 years?
